Which ending in fnv do you think will be Canon **Spoilers**.

Laissez Faire Rulership is still Rulership. Mister House takes what he needs from the Wasteland. The tribals I believe we're meant to believe he shaped into essentially memories of his old 2070s image of Vegas. The Tops, The White Glove Society, and the Omertas are basically immitating 1950s Las Vegas (with some twists) because House wants them to be that way. He enforces his laws to maximize capitalist gain for himself and the reconstruction of Vegas.

The fact he doesn't care beyond this just makes him a man who doesn't require much in the way of legal prohibitions. In that respect, perhaps, he might have more freedoms than NCR in terms of personal liberties.

You say this as though it were a bad thing. In my opinion, the world is trying to reach a semblance of Pre-War. One of the best, most effective steps? Wiping out Tribal identity. Caesars failure is he, like the Russians during the Czarist/Lenin changeover, are trading one lie for another. In this case, the lie is that Caesars way is better.

Mister House is, explictly, the party responsible for the behavior of the Strip's three tribes because he has set them in power as his bureaucracy. He's also responsible for the behavior of his Securitrons. Indirectly, he's responsible for the behavior of the Omertas and certainly he abused everyone necessary in his land grab of the Strip. No, he's not actively malevolent but he's utterly ruthless in the pursuit of his aims.

Not necessarilly a BAD quality in a ruler - let's be honest.

The problem is that Mr. House, unlike many in the Wasteland, abides by his contracts. Hence he didnt send an army running to catch Benny or the Omerta's, you are House's right hand man. You are his loophole when those two families were doing wrong. Notice he doesn't have you do this to everyone. The only exertion of his utter ruthlessness was with the Brotherhood, and unless you're a braindead fish or something, you can understand House's (and Yes-Man's) want for the Brotherhood to be gone.

I never said Mister House was cruel. I said he was an autocrat and a tyrant. Mister House doesn't abuse people because he has no sadistic joys out of it like Caesar apparently does or any of the other villains. He's a businessman who wants to rebuild Vegas, which again he considers to be his property. The objections I have to Mister House are based totally on the fact that he is the self-appointed monarch New Vegas.
A role that he enforces based on force and force alone.

I don't see him as a Monarch, nor a dictator. I see him as a leader. To explain what I mean, I feel that House is the man who has the vision to rebuild. Look at The Strip, in seven years time, it is a strong semblance of Pre-War glory. Anyone with a real vision can see in ten years time, House could truly rebuild Vegas. So I think to call House a ruler by any extent is a bit misconstrued. The Strip has nothing of need to the world. The Strip has always been, both Pre and Post War, a place of excess, a business. Who cares if House rules it? The people who get in, they can afford to let their caps go into the sink.

I have no doubt that Mister House would have done well by NCR as long as he was allowed the same laws that used to govern The Brotherhood of Steel, i.e. a "State within a stae" allowing him to rule New Vegas unopposed. However, it still doesn't change that he is NOT New Vegas' monarch by anything but force and no one is unhappy to see him go. The White Glove Society to the Tops are all happy he's gone.

In the case of the Yes Man or NCR endings, I think both would go over better or equally well. Really, it depends on the actions of the Courier since the Courier can MAKE situations better.

I feel you are expressing an opinion. I don't think the WGS or the Chairmen are happy about it. I even heard Swank and some of the Chairmen express concern on Vegas's future without House.

I think your understanding is actually the flawed one to be honest. Mister House derives his rulership of New Vegas entirely from his Securitron Army, which falls under your control at the end of "No Gods, No Masters." Yes Man explictly hands them directly over to you while he reboots his personality, giving you control of not only the ones on the Strip but the ones which destroyed the Legion. Absolutely nothing has changed between you and Mister House save you may have altered all of the tribes to be more beneficial and eliminated many threats in the Mojave.

That's not true. I just watched a video ending scened. Nowhere in it did Yes-Man say that he was handing control of them over to you. He says, and I quote, 'I updated their targeting parameters, so they know what to do!' So technically, they NEVER leave Yes-Man's control.

I agree with you regarding NCR - EXCEPT if the Courier stabilizes the Region for NCR (which he/she can do by destroying the Fiends and other destabilizing factors)
The problem isn't The Fiends. It's that Kimball will remain in power, Oliver is hailed a hero, and all the wrong things of NCR thrive. All in all, NCR will kill itself. THEN Caesars Legion and NCR will continue to clash until one or the other is done for.

I just can't see the Courier turning down the opportunity to become an important figure on the Strip, just to be homogenized by the NCR or Legion.

I hope that the canon story leaves House in control of Vegas. Part of the goal of the game was to get the feel of pre-war Vegas down and only a House ending would keep that feel. Having an independent city-state would be more interesting then continuing the expansion of NCR or Caeser's Legion.

Besides, I never understood this hate for House or calling him a Tyrant. First off, I am pretty sure House owns all of Vegas anyway and he lets the families live there. He pretty much doesn't care what they do as long as they do not go around killing everyone. All he wants is a tourist city that will be able to fund his projects that may one day save mankind. Sure, he doesn't really care about the problems of individuals, but honestly, what leader or faction has time or resources to pander to everyone? He isn't planning to expand and no one is making anyone live in New Vegas.

I believe the difference between a leader and a ruler is that a leader guides people by their consent and a ruler decrees for their own good. The real issue is really that Mister House usurped Vegas from the people who used to live there and is building his dream because he feels he's entitled to the city.

Like, say, Andrew Ryan from Bioshock - there's argument that he might be given that House DID save Vegas just like Ryan is the founder of Rapture. Unlike Ryan, House never went on a crazy spree and doesn't seem likely to.

I suppose it then boils down to the question of whether or not you believe the Courier is in control of Yes Man up until that point or not (let alone beyond).

With the exception of player paranoia (possibly justified), the ending is all about the Courier establishing his rule as his argument with Lee Oliver is about who would be better for Vegas.

The Courier or NCR - not Yes Man.

Most of the issues is that the people who USED to live in New Vegas such as the Kings and the Great Khans (not exactly a ringing endorsemant in the later) as well as the people of Freeside and West Side used to live on the Strip - Mister House claimed ownership of the Strip and kicked out everyone but those willing to toe the line to him.

Exactly. Personally, I never understand when people call House a tyrant; technically yes, but he has VERY few rules to play by. He wants a safe Strip, he wants to pick the design of each casino and business and he wants cooperation from his workers. That's it. If he has that, he's happy.

But where House's downsides do come into play are when people don't wanna cooperate. Perhaps the hardest pill for me to swallow if I side with House is that there's a VERY good chance that the Kings will be eliminated. The Kings are perhaps -THE- most innocent group in the game, and yet they'd be shot down simply because they want a home to call their own and a place to play by their own rules in Freeside; they refuse to be another group of workers for House. It is possible to save the Kings, but that requires yet another "evil" action to get House to spare them.
And what's the story with Vault 21? Why fill it with cement? To me, it seems like it's because House knew the people of Vault 21 would never want to leave if he hadn't. They would've stayed their and gone on with their lives. But House doesn't want that; he wants more workers on his market, and he knows that if he forces the people of Vault 21 out of their vault...where would they go? They don't know or understand the world, and House is the only one there to give them guidance. Hence, he can fill the vault with cement and he has more workers.

These are the points in the game that, to me, express the downside of Mr. House. Yes he knows what he's doing, yes he's level-headed and yes he can promise Vegas a bright future, but at a cost. Every citizen of the Strip is to follow his plan and work for him whenever he wants (and that's the scary part), or they're to leave/get shot.

Personally, I see it as a Mr. House or Yes Man scenerio.

House has a plan to put humanity back on track to it's original path, albeit one that further enriches him. As an autocrat and being in control of the area it seems to me this would be a good baseline to operate from should The Mojave be revisited.

Yes Man has an aura of speculation in it where the question remains what does he become, or what does he represent after he introduces the new assertive programming.
This can go any number of ways as I see it from a benevolent ruler to a tyrant of Biblical preportions.

I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of the entire series is still in the learning stages since I came in late to the party with F3. I'm having a heck of a time going back and working through 1&2 since I find them much different and problematic, but I'm working through it.

I know some of the history involved but from the perspective of this game alone those would be my choices.

This makes me think they may just decide it to be this ending.

Independent, it seems like he'd be more of an important character as opposed to the other factions. It would also give the devs a reason to introduce new factions in the next game. To be honest, in the three other endings, he just seems like an errand boy, followed by the faction he helped taking over.

It's obviously only speculation based on observations but, I'm not so sure this 'assertive programming' is what most seem to think.
As it stand pre-endgame anyone who could get access to talking to yes man could i essence control the strip and most of new vegas if independant vegas happens.
I believe this is the reasoning behind yes man needing these new code snippets, so that he works for the courier and 'only' the courier.

"The Courier, with the aid of Yes Man, drove both the Legion and the NCR from Hoover Dam, securing New Vegas' independence from both factions."

Now, I'm not sure how you interpret this but personally I see yes man aiding the courier here. Not yes man being in control.
