Which gun would you pick?

Depends.....which version of the Kalashnikov are we talking about? I'd take a Galil, R-4 or a Valmet over a M-16 any day of the week, but if the choice is Chinese or North Korean junk, I'll take my chanches with a M-16.

And shoots bullets(like a 2mm), it has a clip on the right side but takes MF cells on the left side.

It always shoots bullets. the FO3 bullets are simulated. And since it's in a game, then they're simulated simulated bullets.

a good sturdy 12 gauge pump action shotgun, good sturdy mechanics, wide library of ammo and thanks to being such a common hunting caliber, lots of ammo after the war.

Not quite sure I follow I meant in the game it shoots 2mm instead of energy weapon cells.

M16 is all I need. If you take care of your M16, Your M16 is going to take care of you. (And as a born & raised American I can't very well support Communism by using something as ugly as an AK-47. :P)

I'd use an AK-74 over all of them though.

When you say "shoots" you mean uses as ammo. When I say shoots, I mean the thing that comes out of the barrel. The Gauss Rifle in F'O3 used a (suppoesedly) 2mm slug that was simulated as being in the weapon preloaded. You never had to reload these slugs. The energy source to fire the weapon was a microfusion cell. You did need to reload these. If the weapon were real life, you would have to reload both cells and slugs, but in the game you only had to load the cells. I hope Josh makes you reload both, but I'm not certain if you can specifiy 2 ammos in the geck. This in the only weapon that I had fun with. I used the others, but they were just tools, but I had a hellofa blast with the Gauss. I would search out overlords and just knock 'em around until they died. good times.....

Edit: I think I might have misunderstood your first post, so ignore everything except the I love shooting it part.

Between the two of these, in the Mojave Wasteland after 200 years of ceased manufacture, I'd take the AK in a heartbeat. Yes the M16 is a bit more accurate but it's way more finickey and needs way more attention to function, whereas the AK will still work with the receiver full of sand. Literally. Oh and the 7.62mm round will do a bit more than the 5.56mm as far as punching through tough animal hides and the like.

Yeah, the AK is definitely more durable, but the 7.62X39 isn't all that great at range. I'd really like to see the R91 back too though.

Well in all actuality the 5.56x45mm goes nearly 1,000 feer per second faster then the 7.62x39mm, So if its penetration through tough animal hide your worried about the 5.56x45mm is going to do a better job then the 7.62x39mm, the 5.56x45mm also has a greater chance of tumbling/fragmenting in tissues meaning much more damage/chances of hitting arteries and other vital organs.

AK-47 due to its reliability and high resistance to the elements (in this case, desert and wasteland). I don't know how accurate it is but as long as it's carefully maintained and used right it'll be a fine weapon.

As a former US Army soldier i like the M-16 for what it is, it is a very accurate weapon but in a FO3 world you will need something more forgivable than an M-16. I own 2 Ak-47 right now and while they lack a certain refinement that the M-16 has, when it comes to the "hit the dirt and then get up firing" i know the Ak-47 will, just about everytime. Now if you want to debate the issue that at ranges out to 300 meters (every US soldier is taught to shoot the M-16 to 300 meters as a matter of basic training) the M-16 is more likely to put the round sucessfully on target every time. In the end i think the choice will be dictated by ammo after all a brand new M-16 is nothing but a club if you have no ammo, and the same can be said for the AK as well.

I have a real life story concerning the sand in the bolt issue for the AK. The AK is a more rugged weapon but that comes at a price of accuracy at range. The M-16 is a more precise refined weapon that is true but at range it will out shoot most standard AKs. I have a few buds and we get together to shoot at my sister in laws farm. I live in Florida so i can tell you with out a doubt that sugar sand will jam both weapons up. There is about 6 of us who have various types of weapons so we will bring a few thousand rounds for each type and toss the weapons on a buffet table. Pretty much it is a shoot what ever weapon you want to try kind of thing. One of the others out there was shooting the M-16 and when he went to set it down on the table it slipped off and hit the sand, needless to say the M-16 was done for the day as the bolt and reciever were grating as he worked the action. I have a couple of Ak-47 i picked up about 10 years ago when they were cheap, i am talking about 200 dollars or so was a common price, keep in mind that even a cheap knock off (bushmaster) M-16 will run you about 600 plus dollars. Most of you will cringe but a discussion started about the merits of the weapons, and to prove a point i tossed my oldest AK into the same sand the M-16 fell into, and yes there was the same grinding, but i took a couple bottles of water and worked the bolt while a buddy poured and i was able to fire the weapon. It did jam after about 10 rounds but i got 10 off before it did. I did need to spend about 150 dollars at a gunsmith to fix the damage of my experiment but it proved to my satisfaction that it is not a myth. I believe that if i had had access to a lake or a stream i could have flushed the sand mostly out and the AK would have been fine for the most part. The M-16 did not make this attempt because the guy who owned the weapon chose not to as is his right but he did conceed that in a few applications the AK might just be superior as i have to conceed that as far as accuracy the M-16 is superior.

I want something I know won't [censored] up. Automatic Kalashnikov.

And besides its sixy as hell. Who doesn't love a wood finish on their gun or a banana clip? Also its better at cracking heads with its butt.

Realistically speaking, the AK-47 would probably be a better choice in a setting like Fallout, as its greater reliability would be quite a welcome thing in the harsh conditions and lack of the necessary materials to properly maintain weapons that you'd likely have to deal with when exploring the wasteland, after all having a more accurate gun will only help you if the gun is kept in good enough condition to actually function. But since this is a video game and not real life, I might instead choose the M16 because I like how it looks better. But ultimately, the actual stats of the weapons will need to be taken into account, and those won't necessarily reflect the real life capabilities of the weapon.

Is there going to be an AK-47, though? I know about the M16 (I actually thought it was supposed to be an M4, but since everyone talks about the M16 I guess that's what it is, not that they'll likely ever refer to it as such in the game, but still they're not fooling us, if a gun looks like a real gun and behaves like a real gun, even if you give it a generic name like "assault rifle" it's still clearly a real gun.) but I've never seen a picture of an AK-47 or heard anything about it being in the game until now. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if the Chinese assault rifle returns, but while that did look like it could be an undefined AK varient or a weapon based off one, I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to specifically be an AK-47.

Surely you can't have a FPS without an AK-47? Right?

Well, the Halo series doesn't have one.

I don't think that System Shock had one.
And BF1947.
Deus Ex.
Deus Ex Invisible Wars.
Borderlands.
Bioshock.
Call Of Duty 1.
Medal Of honor 1.
Dead Space.
Left 4 Dead 1.
