who doesn't like having lydia as your follower?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 12:36 pm

i just cannot bring myself to using her,as i feel uncomfortable about having someone who swears they will die for you (due to an oath sworn).i would like to tell her that she is free to go her own way (no oath has to be kept).i suppose it's just that i do not want to feel superior to someone else (whether in a virtual world,or the real world whatever that is?).anyone else feel a similar way (i'd also like to add that i'm not judging, sitting on a morale high tower e.t.c,being all pious) just interested that's all

She is always too incompetent when i use her. She just stands there when the enemy attacks and gets downed because she does not block or even swing her weapon...so i beat her to death with a large hammer and get the inheritance

She asks me if I'm lost.... In my own home! Just wish I could permanently kick her out. So far I'm stuck with just having her wait outside. Plus, she can't keep up with anything other than a bandit highwayman.

Lydia is a terrible companion. In my experience I found her to be rude, and incompetent, with her vanishing whilst exploring a dungeon, never to be seen again.

All your followers will die for you. She is the only one who complains about it.

Marry her, now you are both on equal terms and wait... Marriage? Equal terms? Sorry, I must have banged my head on my way in.

I like Lydia, sure she is overrated, but so is everything popular these days.

In summary, if YOU like it, then you are free to do it.

I use her despite all the reasons people complain about her. She gets in my way in battle and complains about carrying any loot. I guess I keep her around to handicap me or maybe I feel sorry for her. Dunno.

I'm the same. I wouldn't want to loose her. I only make her a follower so I dress her in ancient Nord but then I leave her there

I use followers for 1 of 2 reasons:

I am a support class (Bard, Healer, etc)
OR
I just need someone to pick locks for me.

If it is the former, my favorite is Belrand (Winking Skeever). Just a mercenary, and the dude's a [censored] tank. Only downside is that he tends to switch between melee and ranged too much (note: this may just be poor perception on my part because of how rarely I use followers).

I grew tired of the HCs real fast. I will take on followers, pending my character. But I can't take all of the "My Thane" mess. The first house my character had, ended with a HC execution. The next two started with one.

Followers are useful, but I don't like them too much. They always fall behind, and it seems that they always show up right after you actually need them. :meh:
But Lydia is just annoying.

Her default armor weighs too much, and you really need to give her a more powerful set of heavy armor. That takes up too much weight, so I use Anneke, with some high quality light armor.

I'm surprised to hear all the trash on Lydia. Sure, she gets lost every now and then. Sure, she sticks her head in front of your bow from time to time, but they ALL do. Mostly, she performed pretty well as a fighter, at least until about mid-game, when I usually pick up a merc. I like her voice and gentle demeanor, as opposed to some of the non-stop blabbers, like Mjoll. I led her to her doom after 20 mins of travel together.

Lydia's boring and her sarcastic way of pointing out that she's sworn to carry my burdens proves that she hates working for me. I felt quite relieved when she died early in my last game.
In my first game, she's stalking my bedroom in Breezehome. I'm hoping to get rid of her soon, though. I have a plan...

I don't like any follower to be honest. I prefer to roll solo, as I always try to keep my follower alive, taking dumb risks to do so. Solo I dont have that problem.

Edited a dumb typo.

She gets in the way too much. I'd rather take someone like Marcurio who uses ranged attacks and stays back out of the way.
