who likes Skyrim for what it is and not for what people wish

I will pass final judgement on this game when I get the final patch.
Then when I get a PC I will fix the bugs in my game and make it the game I think it should have been.

It's dumbed down. It's streamlined. It's shallow. It's focused on the casuals.

Is "casual" a synonym for (relatively) "sane" on this forum?

Certainly comes across that way to me at times.

If you wanna see a single-player game that plays like an MMORPG minues the MMO part, go play Kingdoms of Amalur.
Considering it started off as MMO it is not surprising. And from what i have heard from a couple of friends they rate it better than Skyrim,i can't comment on that but i plan to buy it to see what it is like for myself.

I've been playing it the past couple of weeks and enjoying it (for what it is).

My own view is similar to a review I read that indicated KoA would have been much more impressive if Skyrim hadn't been released first.

I don`t like Skyrim for what it is, I wish I could like I did with Baldur`s Gate 2 and Morrowind. So I like Skyrim for it`s potential.

And Mods release that potential.

Otherwise I wouldn`t buy the thing.

Strangely enough, I very rarely heard people criticize the game until I signed up for these forums. All of my friends and most other forums I visit praise the game up and down.
I love it and I think it's far superior to any of the other RPG's I've played.

I'm a huge Kingdoms of Amalur fan, but the world is very shallow and the looting system is frustrating. I'll kill a bandit and find some gold and a lockpick on him, which is great, but I want his damn armor!
Dark Souls was challenging, but it traded fun for difficulty and I lost my motivation to play.
Dragon Age 2's class system was obnoxiously rigid and I found it nearly impossible to immerse myself in the world.

Becoming frustrated with these games made me really appreciate Skyrim for what it is. The lore is very deep, I could spend weeks researching it. The looting system is great; if I see a bandit with cool armor, I can kill him and take it for my own. The world is massive, I've been playing since it was released and I still haven't seen all of it.
Do I have complaints? Yeah, of course I do. I wish the combat system was a little different and the quests could definitely be a bit more varied, but the good in this game far outweighs the bad.

A lot of elitists or "veterans" here to criticize Skyrim.

I've made many attempts to enter skyrim again but after dealing with so many annoying bugs shallow and boring npcs/quests and the only type of quests that are worth doing are daedric and thieves guild I really cant touch it any more.

How easy is it to throw around that word, "elitist?"

I'm sorry that, from my perspective, things that should have never been removed (like Spellcrafting) were removed.

I'm sorry that, from my perspective, it feels very, very odd that the game tells me that Khajiit aren't allowed in cities, but I can stroll into all of them just fine.

Or that I Smithing is not balanced very well.

I tried playing that game, but I got absolutely BORED of it within about 10 minutes. It reminds me so much of Fable that I didn't even want to play it. They even copied the way you cant harm NPC's until you turn safety mode off.....like really? -facepalm- I dont know how people can have fun playing that game, maybe I've played too many video games to the point where a game has to be very unique in order to interest me,but I deleted the demo after my first try. The whole world feels like your typical generic fantasy game, and most NPC's are just bland. It does have nice animations and graphics though. But thats not enough to make me want to play it,let alone even think of spending 60$ on it. It was like a single player World of Warcraft mixed with Fable.

If I compare Skyrim to the rest of the gaming world, its utterly epic. No question.

Compared to The Elder Scrolls, its lacking in depth and content which always leaves me a little disappointed.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's just Khajiit caravans that aren't allowed in cities.

The combat system is what draws people in. It really is fun once you start messing around with the perks, and it's nice that you can rearrange them whenever you feel like it, but you're right, many parts of the game just feel flat.

Skyrim is the bullet to Morrowinds arrow.

Better but you still get the traditionalists who prefer the longbow to an assault rifle due to rose tinted glasses.

Ya know, I love Skyrim, at least what I've seen of it so far, it really is shaping up to a pretty damn good game, but I really hate the attitude you and others display, talking about "Rose Colored Glasses" when those of us who STILL prefer Morrowind talk about how we still prefer it. I got news for you, it CAN'T be Rose-Colored glasses, when YOU STILL PLAY THE GAME! I have Morrowind on my computer right now, with a save file that has about 50 or so hours on it, that I just started a few months ago(took a break to play some PSP games and now I"m on skyrim, but I will get back to it). I can't even say it's everything I remember, because there has yet to been a great enough period of time where I wasn't playing it, for my actual memories of it to start to fade. I play Morrowind at least twice a year, each time lasting 1-3 months, and I've played it that often ever since I got the game on it's freaking release day. So please, stop talking about "Rose-Colored Glasses" that statement only works the people talking about how great the game is, haven't played it in the last few years, and I imagine many people who do talk about it, are just like me, and still play it quite frequently.

k, rant over, and as I said, Skyrim is a great game.

Because everything professionals touch is gold and should never be discussed, debated, or questioned?

Even if it just is limited to the caravans, not a single guard ever stops me to even question whether I'm in a caravan or not. I can literally just walk right in.

I like it in general. I hate a lot of things about it, but still. If I utterly hated it, I wouldn't be here, would I? Who would do that? Oh wait... lots of people, I guess.

The thing is,The Elder Scrolls has their own huge lore thats very unique. Sure it might have your typical fantasy things (Orcs,Elves,Dragons,Skeletons,Magic) but it does it in a certain way that it stands out from the rest of the crowd.

AND,believe it or not, Skyrim actually has some funny and memorable NPC's. Barbas the dog was unexpected, now hes my partner in crime. Lydia is memorable for her annoying "I am sworn to carry your burdens" line. Farkas is a badass werewolf that has a soft side for his friends and has arachnophobia. etc.

You can put those two points up to a lot of games, not just RPGs.

So it's kind of moot really.

As a TES game it is the best so far, the gameplay mechanics and character building fits the first-person action theme of TES better than the previous attempts, which mixed in strategy roleplaying mechanics that simply don't fit TES.
