Why are you a (insert race name here)?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:34 am

Niamh is a Bosmer, I'm a human.
She dislikes male humans but she tolerates me because I help her out from time to time.
Besides that we've known each other for quite a while so she's kind of alright with me around I guess.

Also I write about her, and I think she secretly enjoys that, although she wasn't overly happy about it to start with. I consider it a small price for her to pay for my advice and the occasional nudge in the right direction, however!
She enjoys the company as well I reckon, although she'll never admit that.

We argue from time to time but overall I think we get on quite well. I'm kind of glad she's on the other side of the screen though, because she's as mad as a box of frogs and about as predictable...
thats one step too far beyond RP...it sounds like you have a personality disorder or 2 and should speak with someone certified to help handle that.

seriously dude seek help before you try to propose to niamh

I don't play beast races because I want my character to have a face I shouldn't mind having.

After that I look at the racial abilities, and usually end up as an Altmer or Breton because I want magic skills, though I have also played as a Bosmer and Orc.

Been playing redguards since daggerfall, only other race I play with is bretons, and I just pick redguards because they're very melee orientated (I know orcs are better but I dislike playing as them) and bretons for mages, guss I just like sticking with the human races.

I played as an Argonian for the longest time but switched to Wood Elves because they are elves and not jerks.

I have had an Argonian in pretty much every Elder Scrolls game. He has been named Zhul-jin since Warcraft 2 came out (got the name from a troll, which reminds me of the argonians)

In previous games I always used to play a Breton due to 50 magic resistance and magica bonus, but they've been nerfed in Skyrim. They still have 25% restistance, but with the new 85% cap that really isn't as big of a deal. I also began disliking elves more since Skyrim (surprise surprise) and Bretons have elven blood.

I still have one Breton character, but now I like Imperials and Nords more. Playing an Imperial necromage spellsword now.

First character was Breton, because I thought I would try out some sort of mage/spellsword playstyle. She ended up as a thief and warrior in stead :/

Then I made a Nord based on myself. I was pretty boring to play, so I abandoned myself at level 4 or something :P

Next character, my current main, is a Nord warrior. I wanted to make a pure warrior who totally embrace the Nord lifestyle and are all for Stormcloaks. She grew up in Bruma, however.

Then I made a musician who wants to become a mage. He's Imperial for different reasons - mainly the way I wanted him to look (think Lucan Valerius' hotter but sleazier brother), and the fact that I want him to join the Legion (and found that easiest to motivate with an Imperial character).

Finally I have a Dunmer waiting in Helgen. I've only played human races so far (in Skyrim - in Morrowind I was Bosmer), so I thought it was time for a Dunmer. I like the look of them, especially the females. She's a magic user, fond of fire. I also thought it would be a fun challenge for me to come up with a good reason for a Dunmer to join the Stormcloaks ;)

I have ideas for a couple of Bosmers, an Orc and an Altmer as well.

My current character is a redguard. It is very good because its has adrenaline rush and is speced for heavy armor and sneak. But I really liked my Breton character, despite the nerf. I also really like High Elves, just not the anti Altmer mentality by many nords in Skyrim.

Dunmer really have no place in helping either side in my opinion which really makes playing a Dunmer pretty awkward sometimes. Though I always seem to side Imperial just cause rather them be in power then a bunch of racists. I'll be interested to hear why a Dunmer would join them, unless he or she just really hates the Empire.

So far I have played Nord, Imperial, Dunmer, Redguard, Breton, Altmer and Orc. Mostly I play a Nord though, since it is my favorite race.

Heh.
I deliberately wrote it like that for the reaction. If I'm honest, it's a coincidentally well suited fanfic fragment that I've been noodling about with in a "4th wall" stylee,, I just adapted it a smidge.

(Quite apart from which, I don't really think I'm her type)

Dunmer are victims of prejudice from all angles. Both the Nords in Windhelm and the Argonians outside the city would carry out genocide of the dunmer if they could

Not sure where you get that from. The Argonians outside the city simply want everyone to live peacefully they have no hatred towards the Dunmer in any way. Maybe the Argonians invading Morrowind sure but not them. Still didn't answer my question as to why a Dunmer would join the Stormcloaks especially if you think they want to kill off their race.

So I'd appreciate if you answer that, cause I don't want to turn this into a Dunmer thread (Who am I kidding of course I do :D) but I don't want the mods to lock it for off-topic or something.

Khajiit chose Khajiit. One, we are beautiful feline-like people. Our stealth and mercantile skills are natural, and we have amazing manes, but the Mane has the best mane. Too bad he's dead now.

Actually I'm curious about that too - how on earth did you come up with a justification for that?

I'm a Redguard, because they're the only race that has a culture that is distinct from the High Elf-Empire lineage, and makes sense.

I have some minor things to work out, but the main story goes like this: She's sort of a mystic, very religious, and also the kind of person who can hold a grudge for a long time, which means she never really forgives the Imperials for trying to execute her in Helgen.
However, she decides to join the Legion (after a while), thinking it's the least bad alternative (here I still have to work on her motives to join the war in the first place). Then, when she's on her way back from a mission retrieving a certain object both sides want, she starts having these visions of Ulfric as the rightful owner of the object in question. She finds this very disturbing and spends a few days or maybe even weeks meditating on this, having more visions, asking her gods for signs, and everything is pointing her in the same direction - she must help Ulfric to victory.
And to be honest, she doesn't really mind, since it means she can get her revenge on those idiots that tried to execute her. (And then I have to work a little more on how she feels about the tense situation between some Nords and Dunmer in Windhelm. She might have a little plan.)

my first character was a nord werewolf warrior because ive always liked their lore, the second was a dunmer theif/assassin becasue ive always liked them, then for my mage I went altmer necromancer because he is loosly based on mannimarco , and my latest is an orc shaman who also shares the blood of the wolf.

I'm a Redguard because they are greatly unappreciated by the community and I'm a Dunmer because they are by far the most interesting race in tamriel and have some of the most unique cultures in all of Nirn
Wow you took the words right out of my mouth!

my first two characteres in every tes game i ever play (daggerfall --> skyrim) were redguard warrior and dunmer mage

Dinosaurs and lizards have always interested me, and I probably wouldn't even be playing TES if there wasn't Argonians in it. I became interested about TES after I saw Argonians in Daggerfall's demo. Then I bought the full game. I've never liked the standard good "good (human) looking" races vs evil "ugly looking" races settings, and it was awesome that in TES I could play a cool lizard character whose race and appearance alone didn't make him a bad guy.

I've never liked elves (except maybe Spock in Star Trek) or any other too human looking races in fantasy or sci-fi. A human with a different skin color, pointy ears, and ridges on forehead is still just a human in my opinion.

I just can't justify walking into Windhelm as an Argonian...
Wouldn't they let an Argonian in if they knew he was a Dragonborn? That's the way I justify it.

Khajiit, for aesthetical reasons. Also the unlimited night eye comes in handy with the darker nights mod i use. I usually use a modded version that makes them have human-like face, though haven't i found a good one yet for Skyrim.
