I usually pick Nord mainly due to the fact that they are the native race of Skyrim and I wanted to get a "feel" of my character actually being from the land that is the games namesake. Second to that I usually pick Nords because they remind me of the Starks in the Ice & Fire book series. :)

My very first TES character was a Dunmer (because I had no idea what I was doing at the time and Dunmer looked cool). Ever since, I always play a Dunmer as my main character whenever I play a new TES game. And they're always part of the Talvalu family line. It my little Elder Scrolls tradition.

I also have a fondness for Khajiit. I never really payed much attention to them until I rolled a Khajiit thief in Oblivion. Now I have a soft spot for them.

That's actually true of me, as well. The first time I played a TES game I made a Dunmer just because they looked cool. ;)

Always, ALWAYS, an argonian called Ikarius :biggrin: In every game I have that involves a reptile species, that's my name. In TES, I consider all my Ikariuses (Ikari?) to be family, TES III, IV, and V. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy (Or cold and scaly.)

Breton because who could be more suited to saving the world in these harsh times full of racism and conflict than a fusion of human and elf? Maybe that way my character can set a sign that to save Tamriel, all races have to work together and not fight each other...

I almost always play as an Argonian because I find them to be the most interesting race.

What race did you choose to be, and why?

I've run 4 similar builds in the last three TES games.
Beast races never appealed to me visually so I use...

1. Male Nord Tracker/Cartographer
Roleplayed as a former Scout for the Legion, he now lives off the land and doesn't do a single MQ/Guild questline. Not one.
Wears Light/Medium Armour and wields a 1H Axe and Bow. Simply a bystander in the province. LOVE that guy.

2. Male Bosmer Rascal/Fisherman
He's my rogue type, wearing clothing with Light Armour boots/bracers and wielding daggers.
Good at heart but can't keep his mits off all those shiny baubles strewn about the world.

3. Female Breton Seeker/Healer
Makes her own charts of ingredient locales. She's my Mage build focusing on Restoration and Alchemy.
With only enchanted robes and clothing, a dagger rests on the hip for times when those with ill-intent come too close.
She's also been known to run away from fights... alot... very swiftly... usually giggling.

4. Female Redguard Vindictor
This lass has a chip the size of Ysgramor on her shoulder.
My tank build, wearing Heavy Armour and wielding a 2H blade.

Different builds and races for different gameplay.

I am a dunmer because I had spent way too many hours at character creation wanting to play a [insert race here] but had no will to put forth the effort necessary to craft a good-looking face for that race.

I had recently purchased Skyrim again after trading it away. During my first playthroughs I had already been a nord (first character) and a bosmer, so I didn't feel like playing either of those races.

So, cycling through the dark elf presets, I found one that was almost good enough (the one with the mohawk). I made some adjustments to personalize it, thought of a fitting name, and bam! I was finally playing Skyrim.

I played through the game naturally without holding myself to any plans (except: 1: No using the map to fast travel, 2: No using the wait feature, 3: No using anything produced by crafting skills.) and turned out to be an illusion assassin, who later picked up the bow because I really wanted to try archery, who discovered I have a hard time fighting dragons, so I picked up conjuration, who now loves using a 151 damage bound bow.

Only downside to the class my dunmer turned out to be is that, at level 48, I can't take a hit from anything near my level because I had spent so little time during my adventures actually getting hit. So, I still rely on calm/fear/frenzy effects as well as conjurations and invisibility to keep hostile attention off of me.

Dunmer in morrowind.. Looked cool
Breton, altmer, bosmer in oblivion.. I made the breton look exactly like me.
Imperial in my first play through in skyrim, kahjiit in my second.. My kity is the best.. Just hit level 81.. Next will be a female Mage based altmer or Breton I think, not sure maybe nord.. I can't decide.

Out of the 10 races, 3 have stood out for me.
Khajiit, Orc and obviously, Bosmer.
Bosmer are my all time favourite TES race because not only do i find their lore amazing, but i just feel right playing as one.
Orcs and Khajiit are second because playing as them, i get a completely different experience to any of the other races.

I've played all the races now except Altmer and Argonians. I just never play Atlmers. Well I take that back I played one in Battlespire cause I thought the topless female avatar was cute. I just can't find a good role-play for Argonians in Skyrim. To be honest, they just shouldn't be there.

Anyway I do play mostly Nords, just like in MW I played mostly Dunmer. OB I played pretty much anything (well except Altmers and Argonians).

I play an Orc, reason is when I first booted up Morrowindthey just stood out. Been one since then, and plus I just love the lifestyle/lore. (Wish there was more, though) -_-

Dunmer really have no place in helping either side in my opinion which really makes playing a Dunmer pretty awkward sometimes. Though I always seem to side Imperial just cause rather them be in power then a bunch of racists. I'll be interested to hear why a Dunmer would join them, unless he or she just really hates the Empire.

Yeah, for an Orsimer it is a difficult decision as well. I simply decided not to pick a side, but I lean toward the Stormcloaks because I'm pissed at the Empire.

When I played Skyrim the first few times I made nord characters because... well, let's face it, a nord fits pretty well into the story. I never got around to completing the game with them - the first couple times didn't feel right and the last character was dropped since I felt playing on the Xbox was really limiting my potential experience.

For my next serious playthrough I'm going to be playing on a PC with mods and I'm going to be a Breton.

My reasons for playing a Breton:

- Actually my character will be the daughter of a Reachwoman and a Nord. She'll have been born in Skyrim originally so she has a bit of a reason to have travelled there;
- I like to play as a magicky magey witch-face;
- I probably would be able to pass as a Breton if I was transported to Tamriel;
- Breton women are short and I think short women are adorable.

I play as an Imperial and Bosmer. The Imperials are my favorite human race because of their heavy influence from acient Romans. Bosmer are my favortie Elven race because I've alwasy loved the Wood Elf characters in all of the fantasy novels I read. Dragonlance and the Lord of the Rings were big inspirations for my love of Wood Elves.

Niamh has never picked a side, she dislikes all humans equally.
Neither side is worth a damn anyway, in the life of an Elf not a one of the humans alive now will still be there when she dies...
(Assuming she dies naturally which, I fear, is unlikely).
