Why are you a (insert race name here)?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 8:25 pm

Yeah, for an Orsimer it is a difficult decision as well. I simply decided not to pick a side, but I lean toward the Stormcloaks because I'm pissed at the Empire.

Orcs tend to join the Legion. Observed best in Gnisis in TES III, in which most of the guards are orcs.

I usually switch between Dunmer, sticking to my Morrowind roots as my favorite race, Altmer, feeling like the most powerful elf in my opinion, and Khajiit, being my favorite beast race.

I always play as a Orc as ive found them to be the most enjoyable for myself, i love the Orc way of life and how honour and fighting is important to them, they have respect for everyone and see everyone as a equal as long as they can match them in a fight. I dont stick to the sterotypes though, my guy can do it all, sneak, tanks, cast, you name it he can do it, i try to play a stealthy Paladin who can creep through a dungeon and kill everyone without them knowing but if the excretion hits the ocilation then he has no problem wading neck deep in combat going toe to toe with anything. I also like how the Orcs look, big brutish, rough and ready, i also find there history and political structre (or lack of) intreasting, not to mention the last thing everyone expects to save the day is a Orc.

I prefer nords for a variety of reasons:
1. I can relate.
2. Their frost resistance is very, very helpful.
3. It's the path of least resistance - you can tell that the other races encounter some friction in Skyrim, though it doesn't really prevent you from doing anything; also, choosing another race doesn't give you any benefits when dealing with your own kind.
4. The nords are the least bigoted race in skyrim - all the others are HORRIBLE, with the Thalmor Altmer being the worst.
5. The nords are fundamentally virtuous.

The other races have their plusses, of course. However: the khajiit are too much like walking talking cats to make their stealthiness a net positive. The argonian waterbreathing is never essential. The disease resistance of the argonians and redguard aren't terribly essential either.

Overall, the nords are simply the best.

I usually play Breton, they're my favourite race. I never play local race first, so in Daggerfall, I played an Altmer instead. However, in Skyrim, I'm playing a Nord currently, a mage.

She's from Daggerfall, and her father was a Breton. In a way, I'm still playing a Breton, as she is culturally Breton, but Nordic by blood.

Are you kidding me? Ulfric is the biggest bigot I've ever seen in TES. Now I won't say Dunmer and Altmer aren't a bit racist (Slaves and Thalmor), but the other races don't really have any sort of bigotry associated with them. Redguards, Orcs (Not counting the stronghold orcs. That's more of a distrust than a hatred), Khajiit and Argonian, Wood Elf...

And on top of that, every nord you fight will tell you "Your kind has no place here" if you're not a nord. Where are you getting this "Nords aren't bigots" bullpoop?

Dunmer for life. Ever since Morrowind, I fell in love with their culture and lore. Coolest, most interesting race by far.

I play a Breton because I enjoy their refined culture. They also seem like the most balanced between the forces that are Anu and Padomay.

They also have a knack for magic, and while my characters are heavily stealth-based, I enjoy that cultural fallback to some magical skill.

Breton for mage mostly. If I want to be an "amoral" mage I use an Altmer.
For Heavy Armor Warrior Nord/ Orc
Light Armor Warrior Imperial/Argonian/Bosmer
Thief/Assassin Kajhiit/Argonian/Imperial/Dunmer

And even the Dunmer in Skyrim aren't racist, they resent the Nords sure, but haven't met any of them that was racist towards anyone. With their whole life as we knew it being completely destroyed I don't think it's really fair to bring up slaves either just cause it was abolished in Oblivion, and it's not like all the other races are clean of using slaves in some part in their history.

So yeah if we were talking about Morrowind I could see why people hate the Dunmer, but I feel you should just the races by what game your playing as it's the most current picture we get of them.

Though I agree the Thalmor (not Altmer) are by far the worst racists with the Nords being a close second.

I'm aware, but my character is angry at the Empire for its inaction with Orsinium, on both accounts. He doesn't care either way who wins, he just wants to try and make a better life for the Orsimer, and kill every Breton in sight. :P

I'm both an Argonian and a Khajiit:

Argonian: Because it's my favorite playable race in the game and I like the beast races a lot better.
Khajiit: Because it's my second favorite playable race and I like the beast races a lot better.

I'm across the board with the races, but mostly Altmer Archer w/ concentration in Restoration, cause I'm a Tolkien fan and Tes is close as I'm gonna get to playing one of them.

Unfortunately the Empire was not in much shape to help out during the sack of Orsinium early in the 4th era. The Stormcrown Interregnum was in full swing during that time, the Elder Council was squabbling among themselves and the Empire was in chaos. So naturally, the Redguards and Bretons capitalized on the chance to gain more territory from Orsinium.

Still, the Legion did what they could to evacuate survivors. The book Infernal City features the Orc Imperial Legion scout Mazgar gra Yagash who was inspired to join the Legion when a group of legionnaires sacrificed themselves to cover her and other Orsinium villagers' escape from the Breton and Redguard forces.

That may be so, but I haven't heard of the Empire punishing the two for doing so....

Sometimes I think the Orsimer and Dunmer should just join up and secede. xS Maybe the Orcs could have a home for more than a few minutes......
