Why Bethesda, why?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 11:42 pm

because they noticed it was useless, since there's an option called "new game"
I mean, pick a race, play 5 minutes, don't like, start over...

Some people create a lot of new characters. It would have been pretty nice if they let you change your character before you leave the tutorial cave. Now it is just a pain in the ass to replay the tutorial over and over and over and over.

You're missing the point. You can escape helgen with everything in tjay dungeon minus a few duplicate weapons and armor. Then save right begore you exit. Then you can choose to be whatever race and character type you want. The point is, playing helgen because Im forced to over and over again is tedious. They didn't do that to us in oblivion.

I have played through the tutorial about 20 times now. I guess it may get old but with me I'm always deep in some new Role-Play so each time is different and each time my character acts differently. I don't think I've gotten that tired of it yet. Sure a CC just before you exit would be nice, but if I didn't grab the right gear I would have to run back, and of course I can't cross that bridge that got smashed so anything past that would be lost to me.

Overall it's a five minute inconvenience. Honestly there are other things I'd rather them 'fix' than adding this.

Please elaborate. Only because you don't have a problem with it doesn't make it obsolete for everyone. I can't believe you are that ignorant.

I agree, there are more important things to fix. Yet it wouldn't be hard to put the option for changes at the dungeon exit, would it? I mean, all they have to do is to throw a pop up window in there asking you to confirm your character choices.

I could say the same...

anyway, if you like "elaboration" : you make a character that you don't like, start over. why changing it after helgen (that lasts about 10 minutes max) if you notice your char is not good or you dont' like it, you notice right away, i mean if you make an altmer and you wanted a khajiit, just start over...is it that hard to comprehend?

I ask you the same. You act like it was your idea not to put in the option to redesign your character before you leave the tutorial and tell people to not be so butthurt about replaying the tutorial. Why is it such a huge problem for you to accept that some people would like to have this opportunity?

I NEVER SAID I DIDN'T LIKE MY CHARACTER!!! PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE CHAIN. SOME OF US PLAY WITH MULTIPLE CHARACTERS, SO PLAYING A FORCED TUTORIAL DUNGEON IS TEDIOUS.

dude, I have no problems at all, you are just assuming that I do, I just said that it was an useless feature and I got no problems at all if it has been removed.
the only butthurt I see here is you, since you can't accept if someone disagrees with you.

and again, that "tutorials" lasts like 10 minutes, no big deal to play thru it every time for me...

I still don't understand how people think that they could "change their character type" with this system. There are no more classes. Even if you picked easy-to-quickly-level skills to focus on for the escape, you would barely hit level 2 by the time you left the dungeon. So all you'd get is the ability to change your character's race and appearance, which is something you had a ton of time to decide on before you even started the tutorial (and since you don't pick a class, shouldn't have been a crippling decision on any level).

But based on some of these later posts, it looks like you want an option to skip the tutorial, which isn't going to happen. It's part of the story.

The sewers were part of the story in oblivion as well. Maybe you are misunderstanding what I am tlaking about. I don't want to change my character, only add new ones without going through Helgen again.

Now i am speechless. Useless to talk against a wall. I also have no problem playing through the tutorial, as i have several times. Still, I completely understand that it's just tedious for some to do so. So i don't tell them to "just play the 10 minutes tutorial". Instead i would appreciate the feature of a chance to change your character at the end of the tutorial, It's a simiple feature. It will surely be modded in for PC, as alternative start mods are already availible. But it has to be patched in by Bethesda for consoles. All i am saying is, i would be happy for the console gamers if this would happen in a future patch and i don't understand people like you, who just argue against them because you don't have a problem with it.

And, last I checked, you can't skip the sewers in Oblivion without creating a save-game at the end of the sewers so you could bypass it. Which kind of defeats the whole purpose of character creation, and always felt weird because, again, you're making the decision that you weren't actually a Dunmer this whole time, you were a Khajiit.

This and the lack of a "barber" confused me. I mean you've been able to edit your characterbefore the end of the tutorial for some time now in Bethesda games so why not this one. And FO3 had multiple barbers and the facial reconstruction. Not sure they they could pull of the "plastic surgery" in Skyrim but at least the option to change you hair and facial hair would of been nice.

You have it... Now an optional chance to define your character after the tutorial wouldn't erase your feature of DECIDING YOUR CHARACTERS BEFORE.

It would be nice, but atleast the tutorial is a lot shorter than in Oblivion or Fallout 3. ...And that may be why the option doesn't exist

Anyway, thank the modders for alternate start mods ^_^

It doesn't erase the feature, but it's always been a little silly.

I agree that there should have been a change race/appearance option. Sometimes it helps to see my character in action before I can decide whether or not I like their appearance. It would be nice not to have to go through Helgen again if I just wanted to change their hair color.

When I do anything over and over, it will become tedious. Try playing with a character for at least 20 levels or so before starting a new one, if going through Helgen is that much of an issue. Let the character "blossom" before creating yet another new one.

Wow, I do not want to change anything about my character only create a new one with out doing the tutorial. How can you not understand this? The only descion you make that could affect anything in Helgen is following Hadvar or Rolaf, but even still, you can choose any side of the war later. If you want to play Helgen over and over again, that is your play not mine. I respect yours. And Helgen takes more than ten minutes if you search everything.

You just don't want to understand do you? Saving before the second character creation would let people who don't want to play through the tutorial again have that option.

I think the magic system of Skyrim is silly, Bethesda should scrap magic for TES VI.
Again. Some want the option, give it to them. It's a minor change, why not implement it? It won't hurt your experience, but enhances that of others. How is that silly?
