Why Bethesda, why?

Why did they not give us an option to change our character race and looks at the end of Helgen like the end of the sewers in oblivion? If I have to watch that awful intro and escape Helgen one more time just to statt a new character, I'm going to die of boredom. In oblivion I played many characters and I saved at the sewer gates so I could always start there edit my character and tjrn enter the world. I hope they csn add that in a dlc.

You can manualy save just before make your chioces you know, at least I could anyway?
Just do it with no mods enabled in case you need a clean fresh start for later use.

I know but you still have to watch the execution scene and escape Helgen. There should be an option right before you exit Helgen like In oblivion.

What I find odd is that when you are in the character creation and you are just about to finish and it looks nice and when you leave Helgen it looks different.

I'm glad someone else said this. I thought it was only me.

The game gives a save right before making your character on Xbox at least, but I agree an option to change right before the exit.

Are you on PC? If so you can do 'showracemenu' at the console and change your character any time.

If you're on console, unfortunately your buggered! :(

I have to agree. I think the start of the game is great and epic and such, but every time I start a new character (er... I play this game a lot, okay?) I end up starting it up and them walking away and doing other things during the long intro, and then rushing through Helgen to get it over with. I'd love an option to save & rest my character right when you leave for the world. I was actually surprised they didn't, since it worked really well in Oblivion.

Ps3 and I get that same save option but helgen is so boring now. I could escape as one of those blind monks from oblivion.

Not to mention that the tutorial dungeon gets repetitive after a while...

I miss the Morrowind approach: "This is your letter of release, now get lost!"

I know. We've said that. Did you play oblivion? After the tutorial dungeon , the sewers, you had one last chance to make changes to your character. If you saved a game there and never saved over it, you could load that game and start a new character without doing the sewers arson, like helgen.

I guess they thought that most players create only one character. Then they forgot the whole thing as it didn't have a high priority.

On PC this isn't a problem because of mods and console commands.

because they noticed it was useless, since there's an option called "new game"
I mean, pick a race, play 5 minutes, don't like, start over...

If you're on console, unfortunately your buggered! :(

only if you want to bugger your stats and character, if you change race etc on PC using that option when you;

A) turn into a vampire youll regain your old six/looks

B ) turn into werewolf form youll revert back to your normal race/look and have a chance of a missing head.

C) loose all your current level stats + equipment enchanctments (until you re-equip but doesnt 100% work)

I miss the Morrowind approach: "This is your letter of release, now get lost!"

yeh me too, quick, painless and easy.

also you had a sense of ''wtf am i ment to do now!? explore? go left, right, rob? arghhh....man!''

I always assumed that it was removed because you're no longer selecting a class. Plus, it always seemed really strange to play half an hour as an Altmer and suddenly realize that I had secretly been a Khajiit this whole time.

Useless? Wow!!! It's not that I don't like my characters, I play with multiple characters. I started a new one last night for my character blog (see link below) and playing through helgen for the 8th time Is redundant.

I think that there is enough good starter stuff that they wanted everyone to go through it to pick the stuff up to equip their current play-style. I you want to be a mage, or rogue, or 1-handed fighter, or 2-handed fighter, etc. all the basic stuff to start yourself off with is right there in the first dungeon.

you can also get all the basic stuff around Riverwood *shrugs*

playing through helgen repeatidly (and ive only done it twice) is tiresome.
