why can't players continue to explore, kill etc once New Vega

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:02 pm

My guess is that some people feel like they will only have a complete game if they have, say, Lanius' helmet on their bedside table.

Right? If Lanius had had a bucket on his head and a big stick as a weapon...

No, who am I kidding? There's people who would complain about not being able to wear the bucket...

This whole topic is wearing thin. With the exception of using the bucket and stick, there is nothing a player can't accomplish or do or explore well before the point of no return banner. Once the personal vengeance is complete, there is little to no urgency to the Main Quest until the factions have been dealt with. My current character is going to be my 'do everything + all DLCs' character. I doubt I'll ever do the ending with him.

Basic customer service = the customer is always right, :banghead: its a logical fallacy shifting the topic from simple optional choice to continue playing with same character with no changes in game world (which I said) to somehow this option will hijack the ending, make them come up with all sots of new content and ruin the artistic value of the game really really wow.
And, yes it is hard to understand why no one can come up with a logical and coregent reply to why a simple option that many customers want in an entertainment product is denied so thank you for your apology.

The "Customer is Always Right" does not always apply in the entertainment industry. If you have no basic vision that you adhere to and are completely pliable to the will of the fans, you are less an artist and more a wh*re. If The Beatles allowed themselves to be rudderless, drifting in whatever direction the "customer wind" pushed them, we would NEVER have had Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, considered by many in the industry to be the most revolutionary piece of music in the past 50 years.

"The customer's always right" might work at Mcdonalds and Walmart but in the entertainment industry it gets you Black Ops, America's Funniest Home Videos & Justin Bieber.

Thanks but no thanks. That mentality has no place in the Fallout Universe IMO.

Its sad so many have resolved to give up the fight for their customer rights, I concede the point that the customer is not treaded as always right and of course its not literality true there are of course limits but can we not agree that customers should be given reasonably positive consideration? And if yes then I agree that Obsidian and Beth have done this ?

That said I like FO NV the way it is, I really do, and I feel I have been given reasonable game to play (although lack of PS3 and PC DLC for X-box is lame move but as a PC I have mods so win some lose some, I digress) However, I want too keep playing after the end is a fun Easter egg option I like in FO2 and with the exception of a few Easter egg encounters nothing really was changed and it certainly did not destroy the game experience for me, so that’s it, I would like the option in my games to continue past the end, hence the wording: past the end, ie it has ended (reload a save is not the same thing but whatever), if that ruins the experience for you, don’t continue.

While Obsidian has the right not to include the option, I think its wrong, to defend that choice as preserving any artistic experience (they don’t want us to ruin their game argument) well FO is a role-playing game, therefore they should give the player as many options as possible to play the game the way we want too, and experience it the way we want to, imagine the scenario that instead of normal play they force players to play FO in hardcoe mode because that preserves the experience they want us to have would you support that or vise versa? However, I respect those who would not like to have to keep playing if it would ruin the game for you but, right now all your supporting is limiting my game play options.

So if we don''t like what you like its crap? IF IT'S NOT SCOTTHISH ITS CRAP,

If they remove the endings so a few people can have play after the end then New Vegas would be crap. Only way to have play at the end is to remove the endings. FO3s story was not that great but broken steel just ruined what was left of it. New Vegas having a good story and multiple endings and removal of them would just ruin New Vegas.

If customers got everything they wanted then everything would be customizable. This is not that big a thing guys. I wish I had other men to have six with in this game that aren't prosttutes, oh well, maybe next time. There are more important things in life.

Hmmm everything customizable not a bad idea in fact it is close to the perfect PC RPG that FO 1 & 2 was headed and were aimed at recreating the pen and paper exp which is customizable to the players playing, you are on to something.

the main quest and thus "the story" is not very good verging on bad and is very short. the game only shines when you purposely avoid the main quest line and explore. it is ridiculous you cant continue that experience when the game is over. no ending has anything really changing except who is in control of new vegas, all your actions in game are already accounted for once you choose a side and what quests you decide to do. all they would need to add is dialogue for which ever ending you had.

Except by the part that the game itself does not shine in the exploration part, but yet in the plot, dialogues, multiple endings, etc

Well, where to start.. It would have been above and beyond if Obsidian put all your choices in after you beat the game. This would have required so much more work and time. Now, let's say they let you continue just for the heck of it to avoid complaints, do you really want to keep playing the game without any changes? I don't think so. They make it so unbelievably simple for you to just save before the final quest! Stop complaining and have some patience! I'm honestly so tired of people making these topics. Are you guys that mentally impaired that you can't come up with one logical reason to why they didn't let you continue after?

Honestly, though -- given the inclination, development time and resources I have no doubt that Obsidian could produce a fantastic coda to the main story. I hate to think what it would do the game's stability but they could do it.
It's hard to imagine it feeling anything but hollow and anticlimactic, though.

I dont see why they cant let be able to keep playing.

Obsidian felt that the players would feel cheated with the ending since they continue and absolutely NOTHING has changed. They didn't have the time nor the funds to script and code the wasteland for every possible outcome of the dozens of endings available. Frankly I would have ended the game too if I was the lead man. Rather that people whine that the game ends than that they whine about: "Where's my changes!" or "Finishing the quests did nothing, boo!"

I have never understood this desire to wander around aimlessly after the main quest is over. Oh sure, if the 'end' comes suddenly, I can see it being reasonable. But NV tells you ahead of time. Get your gamin' done. You miss out on nothing except for a helmet or some crap, not some sort of epic pile of loot that gives gameplay true meaning.

Plus, Broken Steel ruined the ending to FO3. It was a flawed ending with a decent idea(sacrifice) terribly implemented, but BO rendered it moot. It rendered the story absolutely moot. By extension, the game became pointless.

Now, what I would be okay with would be an option to continue that places you right back where you were before you started the final quest. The story doesn't get ruined, you get your loot or whatever you wanted to run around with, everything is open.

New game PLUS, maybe

And about BS, it existed because the fans wanted to play after the main quest, the idea of sacrifice was good indeed

TOTALLY OT: New Vegas had many themes, which would be theequivalent of F3s "sacrifice"?

ON T: The Strip gets blown the hell up if you don't play your cards right WHILE you're playing the final quest - not exactly tempting to return after that.

And it would be way to much work for the Devs to make to show that New Vegas gets blown up, same for the outcomes. Just way to much work, it would be like making four new mojaves just so people can walk around and do things they could have done before the end of the game or people to lazy to load a save.

In reality, it's not THAT hard. You don't necessarily NEED to make a new Worldspace Mojave wasteland. All you need to do is change which factions are present where, add a couple new characters and/or quests, and change New Vegas(the factions present there). It's not that hard, merely a bit time consuming. The hardest part would be changing the presence of factions but once that's done, any solid community modder could do it.

But I use a main quest extender and roleplay the stuff at the ending didn't happen yet. So yeah...just use a main quest extender mod if you want it complete or wait for a community modder to make a solid main quest extender with quests and new characters. It's coming, you just have to wait.

It would be more then adding a few character changes. Legion take the Dam and therefore New Vegas. So they have to completely change New Vegas and the strip. Make it so everyone knows the legion has won. Show how NCR is pulling ouit of the Mojave. Thats all just for one possible ending. There are three other ending plus many othe smaller changes.

You could make a whole new game out of the results of the battle of Hoover Dam....playing after the end of NV without taking any of it into account makes the game itself pointless. Personally, I think extending NV ala Broken Steel would hurt NV. FO3 with Broken Steel and Oblivion are probably the only "open ended" games I didn't tire of within a few hours after beating the main quest...Oblivion has tons of side quests designed to keep you busy, and BS had just enough interaction with NPCs to keep it going. The GTA games, RDR, Mass Effect 2.....all of them became dull as dishwater after finishing the main quest and I put them away and never looked back, even for the DLC as I couldn't stand wandering around like a ghost with no one to interact with...RDR was particularly depressing. I like NV the way it is, I can always start a new game and write the story I want, new DLCs are just gravy. Hopefully the devs will not cave on this point.

With that said, I wouldn't mind some form of New Game Plus, where starting a new game off a clear save would get you some unique weapons and equipment (even un-nerfed gear from FO3 like the Lincoln Repeater, Metal Blaster, CSS or Hellfire Armor) and/ or perks, or let you choose x number of free perks that don't count towards the perks you get levelling up. For the "hardcoe Elite" they can give you the option to refuse them so they don't cry about being forced to take a "Easy Button", or even a version of hardcoe mode that would satisfy thier masochistic urges.

Oh dear, I didn’t think people would have such strong opinions about this. When I put the post up it was just a thought that’s all! The game has been made and there’s no going back now. Surly, there will be more fallouts in the future and who knows in those games there will be a continue option after the game has been completed.

Personally, I didn’t care about the storyline, I never do when it comes to games, it’s the gameplay I’m mainly concerned about. All the fallouts have bad storylines but all games do, games aren’t films or books.

Again with the excuse of films and books?

Not all the movies was good to see and not all the books deserves to be read,

Whats the point of a ROLE PLAYING GAME WITHOUT A PLOT????

Same here, exactly why i'm able to enjoy Fallout 3, Oblivion and Mass Effect 2 :P A good plot helps, but isn't as essential as good gameplay. Hell, classic Doom is one of the most fun games i've ever played, and it's story fits on a napkin :D So why do i play RPGs you may ask? Because the character customisation and growth, dialogue, inventory and loot mechanism are done best in them.

However i'm of the mind that the game ending is a good thing, for me the game ends when the main quest ends regardless of the possibility to continue

Nor a story to follow

A story, yes, but the quality of the story is inconsequential to me. Again Fallout 3 and Oblivion :D
