Why Dawnguard will be vampires vs werewolves.

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 6:07 am

I know this has been discussed and it the hot topic right now on the forums as there are multiple threads about werewolves, vampires, Dawnguard, etc. But another poster (I forget who you are, sorry) really got me thinking about the up-coming DLC. And the more I think about it, the more likely I think that Dawnguard will not be as vampire-focused as many on here think. Well, it will be, but only half of it. The other half will focus on werewolves.

I have a pretty good gut feeling that Dawnguard will be a werewolf clan of some sorts. And the player will choose whether to join up with them and become a more powerful werewolf or join up with the vampires and do the same. Now this theory does leave out the idea that the player can go through the story without choosing one or the other, perhaps there's something that we don't know, maybe there's a third "choice." Who knows. Here's what I do know...

1. In the beta test sign-ups one of the questions, as I'm sure most on here know is whether or not you play as a werewolf or a vampire. Bethesda would not ask this question if there were not ties to vampires and werewolves in Dawnguard. They want to be sure that there are some of each in the beta testing. I think this is the best indication that werewolves will get some love in Dawnguard.

2. Vsions has said that the future looks good for werewolves and gave a little "wink" in one of the other threads that was discussing the possibility of werewolves getting some improvements or attention in the DLC (or at least future DLCs).

3. Bethesda LOVES to try and keep secrets to surprise its audiences, which I appreciate. However, most of the time these are brought to light before they can be delivered the way Bethesda intends them, as surprises. Werewolves in general are a great example. Lets think back prior to release of Skyrim.

There were a TON of questions on whether or not werewolves would be in the game and we got the typical "we're not talking about that right now," answer from Bethsda over and over. However, the question was finally answered in one of the Q&A threads on this forum prior to Skyrim's release in which the answer was given. No. Werewolves will not be in Skyrim? Really? Bethesda straight-up lied about this, which I find pretty cool and funny. To our surprise and pleasure we quickly found out that werewolves, in fact, were in the game. And that' they'd be playable. So now here we are again...

I think Bethesda is wanting to deliver the surprise that they were unable to hide in the original release. This DLC will be vampires vs werewolves. The more I think about it, the more I believe its true. The Dawnguard have to have some kind of power, or something special about them. We'll know for sure soon enough.

I agree with your points, but I don't think the dawnguard will be werewolves.

I think werewolves will have a sidequest or two along with some new features.

if Dawnguard are basically a werewolf clan that would make me like Dawnguard. Much better than another generic human vampire hunter organization.

Some would rant there's already The Companions, but the Circle are few in number and don't do anything "big" like the Dawnguard are trying to do. Yea the Circle go after the Silver Hand, but the Silver Hand are pushovers compared to Vampire Lords/Ladies.

But I still unsure about Dawnguard unless werewolves are confirmed to play a big part in it. I also think if they go all out with werewolves side being Dawnguard, they should update female werewolf form model so it's more feminine. (bigger hips and legs, , briasts, more fur on torso, smaller shoulders and arms)

I know they will take care of the Lycanthrope perk/skill tree just fine but yea it's one of the things that urks me about werewolves, also the fact that they can only be used in 3rd person, when Bloodmoon supported first person Lycanthrope gameplay.

if anything maybe Dawnguard are Werebears? That would explain that picnic basket in the trailer. :)

And Werewolves will get the Lycanthrope perks Werebears get? That would be quite a twist. They could cover both bases that way, along with the confusion concerning Werebears being absent in Skyrim.

^Haha. Did it ever occur to you that Bethesda asks if the player is a werewolf because there might be a werewolf player wanting to go vampire?

Because that's a good way to appeal to Skyrim's target demographic of 16 year old males: copy the most cliché story loved by 16 year old females.

Hahahaha no.

Furries? In the Bethesda forums?
It's more likely than you think!

I swear, is this is a werewolv vs vampire thing I will laugh at the people wanting to go play human. At the same time, I will weep and kick a few puppies while punching some kittens. Sure, they took influence from Underworld, but pitting these two creatures against each other is crossing the line.

1. Werewolves have no reason to go against vampires. Vice versa.
2. It would be better if it were a bunch of mortals trying to kill vampires.

I don't find any of these arguments convincing.

1) Beta tests are about coverage. They want the widest possible coverage of different user situations. If being a werewolf might possibly break something, then they need characters who are werewolves in the beta test. That is true, even if there is nothing werewolf specific in the DLC.

2) That could mean anything. It could mean that the Game Jam Werewolf perk tree is coming along at some point or it could mean werewolves feature in another DLC. Even if there are werewolf enhancements in Dawnguard, that would be a big stretch to making the Dawnguard a werewolf clan.

3) A surprise could be any number of things; why should it be this in particular?

Honestly, I just don't see it.

what about the Werebears theory? Everyone is overlooking the Werebears theories!!

Also notice at GameJam, they confirmed the werewolf tree to be Lycanthropy tree. That means that they could already have plans for Werebears in this expansion, and bears are more sunlight driven while wolfs and vampires are more night driven.

Also notice most Yogi Bear cartoon episodes take place during the day.

Werebears could be possibility for Dawnguard. More signs point to it than werewolves, though werewolves could still get a piece of the pie due to the universal Lycanthrope tree that benefits BOTH.

Also Werebears vs. Vampires would be SO AWESOME and more original. :)

It would be soooooooo cliche if it's just humans vs. vampires.

They'll have some kind of power, as a counterpart to the vampire lord powers, of that I have no doubt, but that it will be lycanthropy, I am not so sure.

Werewolves will have a part. Will they be the antagonist or protagonist? Probably not but they will have an update somehow. It would be narrowed minded to think otherwise.

Im a werewolf fan who wants tons of werewolf content but I agree there. The dawnguard should be normal humans.

I think the most interesting version of all possibilities is that maybe halfway through the dawnguard questline you learn there are a few werewolves who have joined them, just for the sake of protecting tamriel.

In elder scrolls lore there is no basis for werewolves and vampires to hate each other, but I would like to see a few werewolf characters used in a more interesting way.

They could be used to shake the story up a bit if introduced at the right time, and provide a perfect explanation for a werewolf upgrade without breaking the idea of this being a vampire dlc.

(facepalm) how did I not think of this before?

From the trailer we know a lot of Dawnguard will take place in vanilla skyrim... Where we already have the companions.

What if dawnguard adds a few more sidequests to the companions?
