He is teh Game Director not the lead designer yo. He is the only one responsible for the Game - the rest are just doing their jobs. Everything you see in the game, everything you like in it, and everything you dont like has been approved or introduced by him personally.
Nitpicker. You spelled 'the' wrong. It's not 'teh', it's 'the'.
Good lord. I do not understand what everyone is so bent out of shape about. Its a video game. I enjoy video games as much as the next guy, but I never sit around noticing everything I don't like about the game. I generally notice everything I do like. I consider myself a person that can find what it is the developer tried to do with the game, and mold myself into it. I don't sit around and expect every game released to be a carbon copy of the last with better looks and more quests.
I view games often the way I view bands and musicians. Bands styles change from album to album based on how they grew from the last. Bethesda isn't here to cheat you out of your money. If most of you took the time to sit your butts back, and open your eyes, you'd notice the vast amount of improvements to the game, and the time it took to implement said improvements. Game design takes a long time and I don't feel that's something they have to answer for. They worked their asses off you bring you a title like this.
Bringing Bioware into this argument is pointless. This isn't Bioware, and I'm sure they aren't trying to be like Bioware. Bioware games aren't anywhere near as self directed as Bethesda titles.
I've said it before and i'll say it again. As an artist, hoping to get into the games industry, the last thought in my mind, and I'm pretty confident that I can speak for Bethesda here as well, is to create a game for any other reason than to improve on my last. Any accusations saying I'm trying to sell out, or "dumb down" my game would go in one ear and out the other. Bethesda strikes me as a company of passion in designing their stories and worlds. Stop detracting from the hard work and effort these guys put into the game. Scamming you for your money isn't on their to-do list.
Lastly if something isn't in this title, that was in their last, stop jumping to conclusions like, "Oh they were running out of time, trying to hit such and such date," "Oh they dumbed down this game." If they removed it, it's because they felt it needed to be removed. They felt it wasn't constructive to this new world they are creating. For something removed, they've added something else. Stop playing victim. There was a target, an objective, and they did what they felt was appropriate.
If some of you would quit playing the poor little cheated customer for a minute, sit back and really think about whether its a game you want to play or not, you're questions are answered. If you want to play, play. The game is phenomenal. If you feel like the aspects you enjoyed about the last elder scrolls games are game breaking when removed, maybe this game isn't for you. Try for the next title, or wait for the CS.
It really bums me out to see so much negativity. It's an amazing title, and I feel it's a major improvement on the last. It deserves way more respect.
I petition for a "Complaints, and Suggestions" section. General discussion seems more like a Dell customer service call center, than a Skyrim discussion thread.
BAhahaha. Ok, wow. I honestly don't remember noticing any of that in Oblivion. Well, at least not to that degree. I guess I can see where a scripted zone of the game, displayed at an E3 event, would mislead a lot of players. I do not however, see where he did that for Skyrim. I feel the game is pretty accurate to what they've said about it. I guess I really don't pay attention to most game hype either. I watch trailers or look at pictures, but never really watch interviews or e3 events.
He hyped up Radiant AI in Skyrim far more than in that Oblivion video, and it's just a poor as vanilla Oblivion, if not worse in most cases. I don't want to flame the guy. Just some effin questions >.>

Touche. I guess I can understand that. However, most people here aren't as justified in their questioning. I apologize for jumping to the conclusion I did, but I just assumed this was another "omfg you took out spell crafting" thread. So again, I do apologize. I stand corrected. The level of petty whining here is equal to a 10 year old whining because his svcker is red instead of blue. Hopefully you understand .
They've put out plenty of information, other than the serious glitches the other stuff so many of you are unhappy about is personal preference. Not enough this. Need more of that. He probably thinks along the lines of "[censored] these ungrateful bastards it's a few hundred whiners out of millions who bought it".
Many of us are happy as larry with it, some people will never be happy so what's the point of him answering their questions?
Sigh... What do we expect. A game director who studied economics (at least the wiki said so). Too bad. I had such a high hope for Bethesda... It seems like Beth is currently in a crossroad: To be a passionate company/studio as it very likely could be, or becoming one of those heartless sell out mega company... And personally, I don't think this industry needs two Electronic Arts(s). Big appreciation to their working talents though. They made exquisite job despite the directing and marketing strategies.
Because Todd is a hype builder, not a constructive feedback kind of guy. He does those scripted presentations (to be generous and not call them outright fabrications, that video of Oblivion is a good example) and then goes away until they are ready to announce the next Bethesda games. And it's working out fine for him, since people at conventions cheer at him like he is some rock star.
I don't agree with the premise of those questions. I want to play the game they wanted to make and that's what I'm doing. I don't agree with all the complaining about it should have been this way and it should have been that way. They created the game the way they wanted to and we can play it however we like. If someone wants to unbalance their game by maxing out a single skill, so be it but don't complain about it as if someone had a gun to your head and made you do it. pffft. All they need to do is fix some bugs...the game is awesome.
@bzim87 I don't blame you at all. People who whine are 99.5% of the time completely out of their element.
This makes logical complaints get thrown out as well though, and that svcks Oh well... I just want, if nothing else, to help people realize that even if they choose to defend the game, there is another side of the argument.
It's the same concept as politicians. They go around promoting [censored] and promising all sorts of [censored] and the second they get in office, you never see anything they said even half-way come true. Often times, it's the opposite of what they said, and not enough people question them to force answers, so they just keep getting away with it.
Edit: They never answer any questions once they accomplished their selfish goals. The rest is just going through the motions and getting paid.
Probably because the number 1 example for a question you gave is already biased?
But seriously, what kind of developper makes a game, and then goes to the forums to explain it!?
And I'm sorry you were disappointed with the game, but it seems LOADS of people are satisfied. Hell, I have over 20 people close to me that [censored] love this game
Oh and BTW Todd didn't sell you the game. You saw the game, and decided to buy it of your own accord. Stop blaming other people for your own mistake. Hell, with skyrim being set in the land of the nords, I was hoping to see a little more acting like a man, and a little less acting like a kid...
I'm talking about from-the-heart honest-to-goodness legit questions. Like "Why did you decide to break away from your PC fan base?" or "What made you think that such-and-such quest line was acceptable in length and dynamics?" or "Why didn't you guys actually level a character to find out that [subject] isn't balanced at all?"
Because these are not from-the-heart honest-to-goodness legit questions, these are whining.
