Why not make it online?

The problem is that these 'companions' act independently. What would happen if you both tried to talk to the same person? Or complete the same quest? Or what if your friend wandered around without you, razing villages and completing quests and just mucking up your game in general?
If your thinking that 'razing' villages is a fun activity with friends then you are playing the wrong game. Unless your character is some kind of serial killer and even then you have to justify being a murderer. Not saying that to you Omegoa, just to people reading your post ^^

It doesn't need to be an MMO. Just let me and like 2-3 of my buds roam freely about the world. It wouldn't ruin the game any more than having a companion at your side.
3 Dovahkiin / Quests directed towards 3 people / 3 Champions of Cyrodiil / 3 Saviors of Hammerfell / More generic quests.....

Co-Op is precisely what should NEVER happen. It would drive TES into peril.

Your argument is flawed.
what decisions do you make in this game? oh no the worlds gonna end kill this dragon!!! oh you killed him here's 100 gold or you don't kill him and you don't get 100 gold doing a quest rarely changes npc disposition or dialogue if they do it's only a few lines in the whole game the only real decision that may effect this is going on a killing spree and half of all npcs are immortal so you would probably die before you could kill everyone who isn't immortal

No thanks. Bethesda know it wouldn't work, we know it wouldn't work. It's just a no.

No offense taken. However, it's not a question of being fun or not. It's an open RPG -- the possibility of a friend running around torching villages and killing civilians is completely possible. A friend of mine used to play Fable, and one of his favorite stories to tell is the time a friend came into his game and killed his wife. I'm not sure of how Fable works, but I imagine that it's not nearly so open as The Elder Scrolls. The ramifications of co-op are vastly expanded, then, and the ability to create mischief much greater. Again, a stable single player is preferable to having co-op capabilities shoe-horned in.

The fundamental problem with letting any number of people play co-op, be it 2 or an MMO is that time would have to be taken away from single player development to focus on multiplayer development. Look at all the people complaining that the game is dumbed down, that they should have added [insert best feature evah!!!] or any number of complaining threads. Now imagine that what we have was reduced by 1/4 to give us the ability to have 2 friends come play. It would drive most of us insane more so than the loss of attributes does to people now.

You know... it might actually benefit me to actually proof read my posts before I post them. But I meant single player

Knew what you meant, and you are correct. Can't speak for anybody else, but I would not want gamesas to take the resources necessary to create another singleplayer TES game over 2-3 years, and spend it on doing something they have no experience in. Let them stick with what they do well. -Not that they need me to tell them that. This thread itself is an exericse in spinning one's wheels to no point. ;)

You people act like its more a technical impossability. Saying "What if 2 people try to turn in the same quest?" Well, then they both complete the quest... whats there to be confused about? Each player would have their own quest log, their own skills, essentially everyone would be independent, except all in the same world. (Co-op, not mmo).

Ironically TOR shows that a campaign based, dialogue heavy game can work with more then one person. Quests involving killing NPCs have their own instance that you can freely run in and out of (No loading screen) and is independent of other players. Anyone you are grouped with, share conversations if they opt to.

The fact is, it can be done in a way that does not detract from TES's depth, but you are all to arrogant and wont even consider the possibility of a [censored] option.

If I recall, many people were wanting options for everything before the game came out, but here, everyone is mostly set on it being an absolute no.

A simple option to join another persons "world" and play with them could work, but the main reason not to add online/multiplayer for Skyrim is that it is designed as a singleplayergame.
As for future games I think it is reasonable to assume that some sort of multiplayer is plausible.

With just followers the game gets pretty easy. With a few actual living team-mates it would be too easy.

Snip.

I for one would be very happy to have a co-op option available. Diablo II remains one of my favorite games because of all the great experiences I had over battle.net. However, that being said, wanting something does not make it a good idea. Given the choice between co-op and a more complete single player, I will choose a better single player every time. If Bethesda could make a good single player game and implement a multiplayer mechanic well, then great. I'll be ecstatic. Until then, though, it is preferable that the integrity of the single player be maintained.

Ugh. I hate multi player with a passion. The forums would be filled with server lag this and balance that.

TES is my chance to get away from everybody. I want Bethesda to put 100% of it's efforts into my single played experience.

When it comes to my TES experience I am selfish.

There are a ton of MMOs and co op games out there. Go play one of those.

( After a few bumps into my head from the reality hammer i do realise that MMO TES would actually be impossible and not appeal to most of the TES players.

BUT

co-op would be very fun to be put in this game. Maybe most people would not like the whole MMO concept but playing with a few friends would DEFINETLY be fun, imagine running around with some of your friends healing each other , one taking a beating from a monster, while the other sneaks around snatching valuables.
Does not sound like fun.

I do not believe for a moment that it would destroy the single player game. true fans would still play single in spite of MMO version.

no because all there focus would be on the mmo version with balancing and other lame crap everyone cries about.
and after they fix whatever there would be another issue they would have to resolve.
its basically be a never ending 'balancing' act.

it would be weekly patches.
no time for a single player game.

so yea, a mmo version would absolutely kill the single player version.

They should fucus on the world and making the world even more unique and adding new features in and they should be more concerned with the bugs before multiplayer.

Not every game on the world needs the option to play with another person.

Because online play requires a lot of additional resources and balancing... Bethesda is horrendous in terms of balancing.

I think what they can do is another type Battlespire game but actually make it good this time. It doesn't have to be a TES game like Battlespire wasn't a TES game, but at least we could battle each other.

Before I would swear up and donw, NO MULTIPLAYER in TES games, but now, that I have my son, and he loves TES just like Daddy, it would be nice to play co-op with each other at least. I finally understand why people want Co-op. Maybe not with strangers like other multipalyer games, but at least with friends and family. Yes it would be lots of fun.

Who knows, maybe we will have a "spin off" like new vegas was a spin off and be called Arena (ok not Arean since it was already taken but something like that, where we meet in an Arean and battle each other for PvP battles and a maybe a Shiver Isle type size story for co-op play.

TES has always been a great single player game. I am rather disappointed that Skyrim requires internet access. However, it does require internet access and the game itself allows you to have henchies follow you around. With that being said, a 2 player co-op could work and would be rather fun. Basically the person that is Hosting is the dragonborn and the game progresses on their actions. The person Joining is simply a henchie that can follow the dragonborn around through the dungeons.

A TES MMO would be exactly that...The Elder Scrolls Online. It wouldn't be Skyrim turned MMO or Oblivion turned MMO. The MMO would have to utilize all of Tamriel to start off with. Other continents could then be added later.

But, before something like that would happen, I would like to see some improvements in MMO gaming. For starters, nothing your character does in an MMO seems to matter. They need to come out with a dynamic world. The kind where no two people have the same experience because the actions of one person has an impact that will make it different for the next.

If I had to choose between Beth making another installment or a MMO, I pick the next installment.

MMO definitely no, co-op could work. Special dungeons that you can run with friends that get harder as the number of players increase... Could work, I guess.
