You could do that... except that Caesar salad is not name after Julius Caesar. It's named after the guy who invented it, who's name was Caesar, but since he was Mexican it's pronounced in the way that we are all familiar with.

Of course that Mexican guy was named after Julius Caesar so the salad was indirectly as well.

That Kaizar or whatever way sounds too much like the German Emperor word of Kaiser

True that! But I think pronunciation based on the direct influence is fine, so pronouncing it as a Spanish speaker would is the way to go here IMO.

I'm not surprised, but it seems like the big divide over whether or not New Vegas is a good game is being fought between the people who liked Fallout 1 and 2 and the "AHAHAHA MUNGO SMASH, MUNGO LIKES TEH SUPER MOOTANTS 'COS DEY MAKE DA FUNNY NOIZE WHEN I SMUSH THEM!" crowd that appeared with FO3.

That reviewer being a prime example... honestly, I stopped reading when he said the Capitol Wasteland was "infused with color".

Now that isn't fair. I'm one of those people introduced to the Fallout franchise through Fallout 3 and I friggen love Fallout: New Vegas. I'm just a little sad that when I saw those Fallout games for sale in Wal-Mart 10 years ago that I didn't pick them up. If New Vegas is any indication of the way Fallout 1 and 2 played out, I would've loved them.

Here's the funny thing that a lot of people somehow can't wrap their heads around.

Both "See-zer" and "kai-zar" are the correct pronunciations for the word Caesar.

The Legion are crazy Latin freaks who do everything the old way (Including bringing up the old issues of sixism, but that's beside the point) so they pronounce Caesar the Latin way, Kai-zar.

Everyone else, on the other hand, who couldn't care less about a dead language because it doesn't make a bit of difference to them, pronounce it See-zer.

Case closed

Of course I'm just joking. At the end of the day you order it in whatever way will let the waiter know what you want. Which is really the whole point of language anyways.

While that pronunciation is acceptable, they don't pronounce it like that on purpose. They pronounce it like that because they are barely literate. The game's language is english, the english pronunciation is a soft C.

Actually Caesar is extremely literate. Look a bit into his background and you'll see this is the case. The Legion pronounces it with a hard C because he told them to. He told them to because he knows the Latin pronunciation.

i think that it was obvious when most people pronouncing it like se-cer while CL pronouncing it in taditional latin pronounciation. This also extends to words like Centurion which can be pronounce either Cen-churion or Cen-Turion With the same reasons.

Oh and concerning Germany and "kaizer".

That is directly influenced by the roman (latin) Caeser. Charles (Karl) the Great - was nominated Caeser by the pope back in the year 8somesthing-something and took on the word Kaizer to accomodate german pronounciations.

Thats another thing i noticed, is the whole Centurion thing. The Caesar leader pronounced it like KEN- Turien. Not CEN turien.
