Why they pronounce it "K-eye-sahr"

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:23 am

He wasnt a Mexican. He was an Italian that emigrated to the Americas opened a resteruant in Tijuana.

Okay yes, technically he was an Italian (born in Italy). When I said he was Mexican I meant he was of Mexican descent. I guess to be PC I should have said he was Latino instead but I was referring to his race rather than his nationality.

Latin is the basis of English, and like I said, I really don't see how something that obnoxious could be bugged. Meshes, quests, sure. But not oft-repeated dialogue, that wouldn't get messed up with a game of this caliber. Anyone with any deductive reasoning could figure that and, if in doubt, could google it.

I took two years of Latin, and though it may be dead, it is not irrelevant. Most words, like difficult vocabulary, have their meanings based on their Latin roots

Western, and thus Roman, history was preserved through the dark ages by a bunch of hard working, free spirited, Irish monks. I assume the FOA could have done the same thing.

FYI, the German “Kaiser” is also derived from “Caesar” and is closer to the way the Romans would have pronounced it. This was also, more or less, the way English (a Germanic language) speaking peoples pronounced it until the Norman Conquest, when the soft c version became the Standard English version.

So basically, we just Anglicized it. Its ok and the Romans did a lot of stuff like that too. For instance, they totally mangled the name “Yahshua” (anglicized; Joshua) which today we continue to mispronounce as “Jesus”.

There were more things wrong with that review than I could safely spell out at work.

As far as I know, English is a Germanic tongue which is not based on Latin. The Latin, or Romance, languages are Spanish, French, Italian, and a couple others that escape me.

It's about 60% Germanic and 40% Latin.

Right.

Roughly speaking, the English alphabet is based on the Roman alphabet, which itself evolved based on preexisting alphabets, but the language itself is a Germanic one.

Though, sense Latin remained the official written language of the “learned” for centuries, we still inherited a lot of Latin and Latinized words in our spoken language as well.

Like the word alphabet. (An yeah, they got it from the Greeks, etc, etc…)

Devs: Ok Kris, say Kyzar into the mic

Kris Kristofferson: What the hell is a Kyzar? the script clearly says See-zer. I'm not saying that crap, it's stupid.

*the devs then go through the process of editing every character to say Seezer, but get bored half way through.*

^That's why there are 2 versions of the word.

Hes not latino, nor is he of Mexican descent. He was born in Italy to an Italian family. He moved to America. Then to Mexico. His race was Italian. I dont know what his nationality was. Who knows if he became a Mexican citizen.

Kai-sar as we hear it ingame is the actual correct term. See-ser is the Western pronunciation of it.

The latin pronounciation kai-sar (or kia-sar, which ever way it is) sounds more respectful and also better suits the Legions theme than see-sar. Same goes with Caesars occasional differing in pronouncing some words. They add character to the faction.

I don't really care which pronunciation they use, as long as it was consistent in the game but it wasn't. Most used the "kisar" but some didn't. I guess you could say people in NV still have different pronunciation differences, but it was a little distracting.

And it's probably just me, but every time they said "kisar" in the game I wanted to holler "Keyser Soze! Keyser Soze!"
