Yes and no. If the stuff they are beta testing for are not platform specific, then it really doesn't matter, as those problems would be the same on all three platforms. That'd be stuff like making sure all the quests work, the dialogue works, etc.

The more platform dependent stuff could just as easily be tested on the main game.

It might have something to do with that 30 day exclusivity thing as to why the beta is only for the 360 version. Then again they might only be doing a beta because it's only for one version too. (Of course I could be way off base here.)

Absolutely no. Just keep an eye on the steam beta forum whenever it's available and about half to 3/4 of the reported problems are later resolved to mods, altered ini configurationa or outdated drivers and whatnot.

So, what will Bethesda's excuse be when Dawnguard is released buggy as hell even after having "beta testers"?

Yes and no, yes that PC testers can go deeper (for those that actually test) and check whats what and give feed back....no because....well I don't have a no, overall I don't think there's an either or, and you can bet your petunias there will still be issues, but hey at least console users get to Beta this time.

Karnaon: Having a public or private beta certainly won't hurt. What's the problem?

Why would a PC player be any better?

Have we had a repeat of the patch 1.2 incident?

Because of a contract with Microsoft. Obviously, I don't know the details of the contract but I can imagine that it would be a breach of contract to have the PC gamers get the game before XBOX does. Really, I have no problem with, but XBOX isn't made for Beta testing. Heck, no console is made for beta testing.

I would assume it's because of the XBox receiving the DLC before the PC and PS3.

To me, Beta testing amounts to me creating various new characters with different levels and skills by using the Console Commands and doing the same thing over and over, while trying to break then game. Like running ahead of an NPC that you are supposed to follow, spamming through dialog or trying to kill an NPC that is trying to help you.Or trying to access an area that you are not really intended to be.

A player on the PC can quickly make all of these senarios with the console and advance through questlines with custom characters. Like the MQ and the Civil war with different outcomes. Thus testing with a wider range of characters.

Because Pc player ara also modders , can Open CK and fix directly the bug going down to the source ...
Usually Xbox players have no idea what a bug coudl even be about and I think that their betatesting woudln't be so accurate as the one submitted by a PC player ...

Oh I see.

They can still report the bugs to Beth though, so I kinda think it evens out.

I would say no because of mods and other things that you can do with a PC that can affect the game. It could cause crashes or bugs where there is none.

The console is not an accurate beta testing tool. Skipping quests and advancing stages can cause issues by itself.

You don't beta test with active mods.

Haven't played the PC version, so don't know what advantage the availability of the console (unavailable to XBox, PS3 players) might be.

Or if there's any advantage to beta testing with a guaranteed vanilla version of Skyrim, as will be the case withthe XBox game.

In any case, the point is at this time moot, as the beta test is currently limited to the XBox.

If done in a proper sequence, those are no more inaccurate that doing the questline itself.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge. Those PC players you speak of do a lot of Beta testing for high quality mods as well as official patches.

EDIT : Myself included.

I suppose they would be since they can rummage around easier in the game to find bugs.
I think the xbox getting the beta is purely due to the 1 month exclusivity, makes sense since if bethesda plans to get people to test for cross platform bugs you'd want them fixed earlier.
