Oh, you didn't know?

If you read all ten etched tablets on the way up to High Hrothgar, you'll receive a blessing called Voice of the Sky. Animals will not run from you or attack you for 24 hours. :tes:

Manually mining ore by swinging a pick axe at an ore vein. I literally had been playing Skyrim for a month before I realized that. I still never use it but it's cool to know all the same.
REALLY? You saying I spend a good 3 days developing a half functioning script to do this very thing, for nothing?

I didn't know about Kagrenzel until last week, i both enjoyed and regreted falling down that hole, partly because I have a small case of vertigo and I enjoy punishing myself with it in video games. xD

I didn't know the horse combat was in until I read it in this thread...just tried it and killed Lydia's horse by accidentally smacking it in the head with a two-handed sword (ooops...).

I tried this and it didn't work.
Try crouching down if its a floor vein, also power attacking can help get the reach necessary.

I've only recently found out that I can hotkey item and spell like in Oblivion and that there's also an auto move feature in Skyrim, that saves me from getting tired when adventuring.

I didn't know you could go down the side of a 300 straight drop cliff by walking slowly down the wall.

I've read posts before where members have talked about basic functions and features of the game that they did not discover until many hours into Skyrim. Many people have said that they didn't know you could rotate the characters and items on the loading screens, others talked about not being aware that you can pick up items and move them around (a feature that's been in since Morrowind if I remember correctly).

I'm wondering, what other features did you guys (and gals) not discover until you had logged many hours in the game. Perhaps this thread will also be helpful in allowing others to discover new features.

i didn't realize i could rotate my character as well until i was on my third playthrough

Well, you do for 60 seconds. And that is if you consider 2 to be a pack.

This makes me wonder... Can you thrall werewolves?
Hmmm. I may test that. It could but it may see them as Beasts and not work.

Out of my 10 chars (one of each race) I'm only just finally getting around to finishing the main quest for the second time, upon entering Sovngarde I seen a few interesting characters I paid no mind too my first time (first char I rushed through the main story so I didn't learn or know about most of these people). It was kind of cool to see some of the people from quests I've done and seeing the High King.
Was a nice satisfactory feeling killing Ulfric twice. Also nice to meet Ysgramor.

Heh - there's no denocking of arrows in Oblivion unless you use a mod. I assumed for a while in Skyrim that the same was true. It wasn't until I asked that someone pointed out that you can just do the disarm button if you have a nocked arrow. D'oh <-- had been firing them into the ground.
I did figure out about the foxes but only after a few - "wow, that's a coincidence, it's ended up going the same way I am!" moments...

Actually now I write these down it just reads like I'm an eejit! :D

Found that out as well! So darn funny to sneak up to people with rigged traps and slam them shut in their....backs.

I didn't know you could do that.

I suspect there's a lot of people who don't realise you can use arrows to misdirect NPCs - fire an arrow at a far away wall, the enemy will go in the direction of the sound to investigate. Buys you about 30 seconds. You can then sneak past them, or backstab them.

There's also people who probably don't know you can slit throats from behind with a blade, that kinda thing.

I didn't know you can sometimes open a lock by smashing it. Found out by accident when I let the wolf loose in the cave with the blind guy reading. Hit the cage door with an arrow.
