Do you think the mods help this forum?

Post » Wed Oct 12, 2011 4:31 pm

Sometimes I think they should punish harder.
Sometimes I think they should't lock a thread as fast as they do.

But this is the greatest forum I have ever encountered on the internet, so I can only conclude that they do amazing work.

I view BGS forums as a city. A city full of citizens that sometimes get into trouble and or even get kicked out of the city by the authority's. This occurring more often depending on what part of the city you are in (guess where the slums are). The moderators are the walls, garrison, and the police that tries to keep some semblance of order and civility in a surrounding jungle of chaos that is the internet. While sometimes they might come off as harsh to some they do however make this forum for me at least worth coming to and remains the only forum that I bother staying in. Really though if every deleted post and thread was revealed, I imagine it would make many more aware of the work needed to keep this place from falling into discord.

Simply put they are a necessity when the internet is involved and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_disinhibition_effect http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GIFT.

Because they svck! We don't need no stinkin' mods! They closed my thread for, like, no reason whatsoever, yapping on about rules and warned me for just telling the truth in someone's face. Which was just my opinion, you know?! Booo! :obliviongate:

I dont know why but I just pictured your avatar saying that

I don't like the mods, I also don't like how people svck up to them as well. Their just a mod , I am not going to treat one like a god. Then again some mods may ban someone without proper anolyzing what they have gotten banned for. Not implying anyone in specific. Just rumors.
But upon helping I guess so , they do their job quite well except for a few incidents but hey they are not perfect.

They are good, the only thing i can comment about is I think they should generally stay out of the TES Lore forum (my neck of the woods.) Its not that they aren't welcome, just that we kinda self-regulate. Furthermore many very productive and knowlegable lore ppl are either unable to or morally opposed to participating on these forums due to overmoderation in that specific forum. There is a reason they don't have as many cops trained to the smae extent as the NYPD in Wyoming.

Absolutely, this forum is the only one I really enjoy and spend time on. They make it unique, orderly, safe, and what-have you. Plus they are close to most users, which is not the case on other forums.

If I wanted anarchy, I'd go back to d2jsp :P

God help us all if you ever become a mod :P

On topic, I actually agree with 99% of the rules here and I think the mods do a fantastic job :tops:

Now can I get my warning removed.... :whistling:

I have to ask what exactly you're talking about? When do people give the mods "a hard time"? I've never seen that. Not even once.

Heh, you should see some of the PMs we receive. :D

But upon helping I guess so , they do their job quite well except for a few incidents but hey they are not perfect.

That is right, we are not perfect and do occasionally make mistakes which we try to rectify or at least discuss.

They can get a little over-reactive when it comes to gray areas in the rules, and a little harsh with the punishment, but have you seen other forums?

This one is paradise compared to a lot of other forums, and we have the mods to thank for that.

You should show us some after making them appropriately anonymous

Occasionally they lock a thread when they shouldn't IMO. And I've seen them take sides without viewing both view points when people are in a heated discussion, but most of that stuff is in the name of swift justice, and they aren't mean. The forum is much better due to their presence. If you want to see a forum that really needs the kind of moderating they dish out go here. http://forum.unity3d.com/index.php That forum is a troll farm.

I do remember when I first joined it was a lot different community forum, and we had quite a few characters we don't have now. Even though the slight controversies over them I do admit it seemed like it was highschool all over again, in a good way. Nowadays it seems like a preschool , not to be demeaning at all. It just feels bland here, Hellokitty where are you now? I am not sure if the moderation got harsher or if the members got more inpatient or dislikes on what we couldn't talked about. I can't remember the last time we had a serious fight or anything. Sure the rivalries and some people who may have been thought of annoying didn't really hurt the community much at all but it gave this place some sort of "spice" to it. It seems like years since I have posted a positive response on this forum. Am I getting old and grumpy from this forum? Maybe I should stop thinking about the past....it is just so boring now.

This.

I don't think anyone wants the forum to be unmoderated, we just want the moderation to be less arbitrary.

I think some of our best members , in my opinion were moderated in a wrong or a little too harsh of a way.

The Bear may be scary and that monkey annoying but they are possibly the most important members here along with all the other mods

Twitch, you missed She, who is likely one of the Most Important mods on the forum, the Most Honourable Princess bunny rabbit.
;)

The mods do a great job in keeping a sense of order.
If they weren't here all the threads would be like the spam you see in most youtube videos. There are certain rules in place that some people don't like but that is tough they are there to reduce the amount of trolling and flame baiting there would otherwise be.
If there were no mods the, more mature and intelligent members of this community would no doubt disappear and we wouldn't have threads such as the ~Community Tech Thread~ which has some brilliant info and helps many people with various problems.

The lack of proper moderation is why there are game forums, that sometimes have interesting threads, but which are ultimately are ones that I would never join due to the spam and trollage to proper posts ratio because of the weak to non-existent moderation on them.
The mods here do their best to keep that junk under control. The high quality moderation is part of why BSF, and the Whirlpool Broadband Internet Forums, are the two online forums I most prefer to access.

Things change Fishy. When I joined it was still relatively small with much more of a community even across all the forums. Now things have become a lot bigger, the membership is different and the moderators need to concentrate much more on the game forums. Now I wonder how many of the myriad members joining for Skyrim have even looked at this forum, and indeed how many would ever consider posting in here? Yes, once Skyrim is released and it settles down no doubt there will be a migration of some of the more active members there to CD but the majority will just fade away to talk about the latest game release elsewhere.

Members leave, some jump others are pushed, it isn't static any more. The same goes for this discussion which will no doubt be repeated next year, or in two years or as long as gamesas keep this place going.
