Your first vehicle

My first and current car is a '98 Ford Mustang.

I have no complaints with it, other than the mileometer quit counting at around 140 thousand miles.

They are. Very stylish, well built and they drive good too. Not had a single problem in a year of having it so far..... I do love my Holly....erm I mean my car :cryvaultboy:

Haha, I don't plan on naming my LeSabre. Instead I just call it the "LeSabre" in a horrible stereotypical french accent. :P

My first car was a 1967 Pontiac Firebird. It was red with a black convertible top. I really liked it, but it was just too much trouble for me. I'm not a mechanic, but as anybody who has had an old vehicle knows, they take a lot of work to maintain.

Sweet!

I just want to say, while reading your post I imagined your car on its way to the mechanic shop saying to itself in a panicked voice: "Maintain, maintain, man, maintain. I gotta maintain!" Like someone who's wasted and trying to go out in public. Haha :lmao:

Edit* @Gamemastr35 Nice ride, man! : :foodndrink:

@ClintostheGreat gtfo Mustang!

Ha, I kid. If it runs and you dig it, more power to you! :icecream:

You mean Odometer?

Yeah, you might want to get that fixed if you ever plan on selling/trading it in.

It was my brother's before it was mine, so I got it for free. Plus most chicks dig it. What more can I ask for?

Yea, that is what I mean. I honestly don't ever plan on selling it, just driving it until it expensively breaks. So it isn't really an issue for me.

That's a lovely example!

Mine was a 1977 Toyota Celica very similar to this http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php/carno/145641 Same screaming yellow color! It was my mom's old car and it had well over 100K miles on it, but was in relatively good condition due to being in a garage all those years. I proceeded to destroy it. It was nicknamed "Deer Slayer" due to the fact I took out a fawn one morning with it. After that I managed to kill a young steer that had somehow got on the road, got ran off the road by a motorhome and rear-ended a Jeep (I had bad luck that couple of years :teehee: ). The front end was patched, the passenger fender was crunched, the dash was cracked, the upholstery was shot and it was slowly disintegrating away. The darn little "tractor" engine Toyota put in those kept chugging away though - even with 200K miles on it. I somehow managed to drive to Iowa and back twice with it in that condition. It was an absolute hoopty, but I love it. :touched:

Ah, my beloved butt-ugly orange '76 F-150.

Bought it in '88 with 75k miles for $1,500; sold it in '92 with 125k miles for $1,500.

No rust, beefed up springs, 3-on-the-tree, and a bench seat. Engine compartment big enough for my diminuative mechanic to sit on the wheel well and dangle her feet by the engine.

It was a great behicle for teaching folks how to drive a clutch. It rarely stalled in first and the travel distance in the clutch pedal was good and long, not too sensitive.

Stories:

Had snow tires on the rear, and a half-load of firewood. While driving back from my GF's during a hard snow, I decidd to pass a semi. After a while I noticed how bumpy it was; turned out I was driving in the snow-covered median! With the snows and firewood, I could do anything a 4x4 could. :)

Truck conked out in a bad part of town one time. Left it at the local gas station that I went to. Same place where every so often a man in trech coat woud try to sell me some Kenwood stereos that were in the coat. Anyway, when I came back, the battery was missing, but the stock AM radio was still there

I got a 2004 saturn ION 2. it is a "lovely" shade of beige (it just SCREAMS grandma), but it had only 22k miles on it for $6000 US. My mom loves it... she took it... her green ford F-150 sits in the driveway and i cannot take that because she has the keys...

A 1997 silver Toyota Corolla. For the first year I had it, there weren't serious issues. Second year, however, the engine was suffering an oil leak. And other parts were getting so worn down from having driven for 100,000 miles on crummy dirt roads, that in order to fix them all and get the thing to pass inspection, it would have cost nearly $4000. I couldn't get rid of that clunker fast enough.

My first car was a used 1972 AMC GremlinX. I swear that car actually had Gremlins in it because it tried to kill me twice. It ran good but it was poorly designed. The rear end was way too light for one thing and the knobs for the controls would break fairly easily. ( I had to use Visegrips to turn the wipers on and off.) It looked really nice and i sold it to another kid when the Bondo cracks started showing through the paint. Boy, did that car have a lot of Bondo on it. I was glad to go back to riding my Yamaha 350 Street Bike. It was much safer to drive than that car.

A 1974 Volkswagen Acapulco Safari/Thing, blue and white, hardtop version. People were always offering to buy it. Windows and doors came off, windshield folded down, trunk/boot was in front, engine was in back, and it was great fun to drive. Turned the odometer over on it.
It was my dad's, he gave it to me, and I gave it back to him when I got my Audi.
Sadly, for my dad, there was a car-b-que, the local fire department had to put the Thing out. He sold it to a collector, who planned to restore it.

I just purchased my very first car for $1,200. It's a very well-maintained 1990 Buick LeSabre. Maroon with matching interior. It only has a few small problems, like the AC not wanting to work correctly sometimes, but the super nice old guy I bought it from -who used to be a mechanic, and is also my neighbor- said he would fix that stuff for me no charge, no problem. Has a spare tire and all that good jazz. Also, there are about fifteen pinetree air fresheners in there. Which is convenient since I planned on doing that just to be ridiculous anyway. On top of that, there is even a leopard print steering wheel cover ha! I plan on replacing that... :P

From all the reviews and opinions I read of it online it seems to be a pretty sweet car. I only came across one negative review, and even then that guy said you should take it with a grain of salt because he knew six other people with the same model that had zero problems.

So, I was curious what the other members of the forums had for their first car? ^_^

I own a 1990 Buick LeSabre and it is a very good driving car. I've put about 50,000 miles on it since I started driving it a few years back. I've given it routine tune-ups and it runs like a champ. The only issue I've started to run into is it's started to be heavily affected by rust (it isn't uncommon for a car of that year being driven on salt roads for all this time to start to rust out).

Unlike yours, however, my AC still works. :P

A red '92 Nissan Micra. :P
It's a nice workhorse car, I don't care how fancy it looks. As long as it does its job I am content.

My first car I drove was a 92 Chevy Dually, which was my moms. Learned to drive in that beast, but I didn't own it.

The first car I actually owned was a motorcycle, a 2002 Yamaha R1. After I got rid of that I owned a 1984 Chevrolet S10 which was an absolute piece of [censored]. Then I had a 1980 Chevy K10, a 1998 Chevy Z71, and finally I currently own a 2004 Chevy Z71.

First car was a http://www.codeoneauto.com/projects/pics/mattredta.jpg (Not my picture but that's the exact model and color. T-tops and everything). Got it after I got my license. My dad bought it off of a friend and I paid him back. $500. I still have it. It's sitting at my dad's house with a boat load of problems haha. Speedometer doesn't work, interior lights don't work, it leaks, etc. If anything, it starts up as soon as you turn the key.

I love that car since my dream car is a 1968 Firebird. I have a second cousin (or something) that restores cars, and he said he'd work on it in his spare time, but he lives about 4 hours away, so I just haven't found a time to get it out there.

with minor edits, a copy-paste answer from my post on Motor Trend's facebook post on the same subject...

i have yet to own fully my own car, it's always been paid for by someone else or by someone else and me and or registered to someone else or me and someone else. even the green Sable i have now which was given to me a a gift by someone from my church because they knew i needed wheels, it is still registered to them and me, even though it was a gift and i was actually supposed to register it to myself only and remove them.

first one i ever drove was a grey-ish silver-ish, don't know what the color was exactly, Mazda 323 hatchback, if i remember right. pretty sure it is right. totaled it(front suffered the majority of the damage, passenger area some damage but not that much and i think the back suffered some), walked away without a scratch. literally walked away and literally without a scratch. then drove a white Pontiac Sunfire and a red Mistubishi Mirage. then black Toyota Corolla. which, again, totaled it and again, walked away from without a scratch, literally walked away and literally without a scratch(front totaled, rest of the car was pretty much OK, transmission and other issues). then, when it was fixed up and running, it caught aflame(we keep it for parts now, no fixing) and from this fire i, again, walked away without a scratch. literally walked away and literally without a scratch or whiff or smoke or touch of fire on me or my clothes nor on my sis and bro who were in the car too(bro was driving). thank God we were safe and sound and thank God i literally walked away and literally without a scratch all those times.

eh, that's like my life story... in response to a question what my first car was... i need to learn to be more precise in my answers.

Nooooooooooooo..., keep the steering wheel cover.. that's what makes a cool car, dude...

Hmm, I hate you.

Yes.. really I do.

1200 bucks?

yup, hate you with a passion, although if it were a '65 or heaven forbid a '51 LeSabre... then I would have to hunt you down.. as it stands, I just hate you :)

First off, please tell me you're gonna take lessons from the old gal and learn to strip that boat like a gang banger in a chop shop.

My first was a '63 fiat 500.. which would fit in the glove box of your Buick :P

I think that may have been what I borrowed from a friend when I visited the US, or possibly its predecessor since it looked a little more box-shaped than the cars people have linked to here. I suspect his hadn't experienced a charmed life since it was made mostly of rust, and it seemed to have a sort of "reverse Tardis effect" in that it was far smaller on the inside than it was on the outside!

Edit: actually it turns out it was an '80s vintage Buick Skylark.

Haha! I am very glad to see so much love for the LeSabre in this thread. I'm definitely going to learn this ride inside and out. I shall be a master of LeSabre maintenance!

As for the steering wheel cover... I was tempted to keep it if I could get some fuzzy dice :P

I was about to say... I don't think it was a LeSabre since that thing has enough room inside it to have a party with Vivec and Molag Bal if you know what I'm saying. ;)
