Your first vehicle

Post » Tue Sep 13, 2011 2:53 am

I just purchased my very first car for $1,200. It's a very well-maintained 1990 Buick LeSabre. Maroon with matching interior. It only has a few small problems, like the AC not wanting to work correctly sometimes, but the super nice old guy I bought it from -who used to be a mechanic, and is also my neighbor- said he would fix that stuff for me no charge, no problem. Has a spare tire and all that good jazz. Also, there are about fifteen pinetree air fresheners in there. Which is convenient since I planned on doing that just to be ridiculous anyway. On top of that, there is even a leopard print steering wheel cover ha! I plan on replacing that... :P

From all the reviews and opinions I read of it online it seems to be a pretty sweet car. I only came across one negative review, and even then that guy said you should take it with a grain of salt because he knew six other people with the same model that had zero problems.

So, I was curious what the other members of the forums had for their first car? ^_^

My first car was a 1994 http://farm1.static.flickr.com/96/257426564_5bf283adfc.jpg, which I had for £300 and in Black. It lasted me 2 years before the thing just kept getting too many things wrong with it to keep paying money towards repairs so I went out and got a Honda Civic instead

My first vehicle that was in my name is a 2012 Mini Cooper. Just got it on this past Monday for an 18th birthday present. I must say I love it. Now the first vehicle I ever drove was a 2003 Dodge Durango.

Congratulations, sounds like a wonderful car. Look after him/her well :cake:

My dad doesn't drive any more so he gave me his Jaguar S-Type! I'm very happy with it, even met some of the members of the local Jaguar Owners' club! :)

Unfortunately it's not a reliable car and breaks down often. The repairs cost a fortune so I can't fix it soon... :(

Not bad at all. If I had the money to drop on a car from 2012, I would just get a sweet car from the 60's-70's and completely replace the motor and all that with something more efficient from today. :

Mine was an http://www.cocomilkcollectibles.com/shoppingcart/images/1985_Ford_LTD.jpg It was maroon as well, so it was identical to the pic. It had a chronic "snotty nose" due to the fact that Ford, at that time, was determined to make every essential function run on vacuum tubes. It couldn't get out of it's own way.

2004 Mazda RX 8. I paid cash on it so I don't have to worry about a payment. It's fun to drive, little pricey on gas since it takes the premium and doesn't get amazing mileage to be honest.

Mine was a Y-reg (early-mid '80s) Volkswagen Polo. It was one of those square-back models and was black, so my dad would nickname it The Hearse (not as bad as his own car: he unluckily ended up with a brown Ford Sierra, its shape and colour contributing to him calling it The Turd.) Can't quite remember what I paid for it; at a guess about £1,500 back in 1988, so allowing for inflation that would be... a bit more. I had a long commute meaning it had to do over 20,000 miles a year, which it did without too much complaint, though it needed a new gearbox and various other stuff during that time. Quite nippy for an 1,100cc engine too, it would safely do... well, more than the speed limit. Allegedly.

I had a 1995 Buick LeSabre a few years ago, and that thing was sweet. The only problem with it was that it had been across the country a few times and driven back and forth across the state I live in multiple times before I got it (it was a family car).

First car I ever had was a 1981 Ford Mistake Mustang. Drove it for a few years after High School. I was never very happy with it, and after driving for a while and putting up with the constant breakdowns, I vowed that I would never drive another Ford product again as long as I lived. I made that promise over 20 years ago and haven't broken it yet. :celebration:

Thank you! I definitely will. :)

Jaguars are damn sixy cars! Too bad it's not reliable though. :(

That looks eerily similar to my LeSabre. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c5/90-91_Buick_LeSabre.jpg That one isn't mine, but same model and color for those curious and too lazy to google. :P

Haha, awesome! I plan on actually purchasing a hearse at some point. My friend wants to get an ice cream truck... I'm pretty sure we are going to start a ridiculous car club. ;)

Sweet ride! I'll assume you drove it until the wheels fell off practically?

Go go team LeSabre! Haha. I've always liked what most people consider "old people" cars. So, yes. Definitely sweet!

I've never been a fan of mustangs, so I'll agree with your vow partially at the very least.

Edit2* I had to remove some emoticons from my post after the first edit. Seems what you guys used, plus what I used was more than the board allows ha!

1965 Custom Galxie 500 XL 4 door, Red on Red Hard Top, Automatic Transmission, Factory 352 4bbl and dual exhaust.

Just like http://photos.ecarlist.com/5Q/QU/QL/54/Ja/jQ/3p/WN/fl/Mj/SQ_640.jpg, everything the same, except mine was a 4 door.

Great Car that I got for free, all I had to do was get it started, that took me about 15 minutes.

It ran like a Spotted Ape for years, I sure miss it... lol :(

First that I drove regularly was an 88 Ford Bronco II, my dad owned it. It was black and white. My first car that I owned(and still do) is a blue '01 Dodge Neon.

Now that is my kind of car! It being free just makes it at least 100 times better too. Ha. :)

Lol I wish, I don't even have my liscense, the car has been sitting in a shed for the past ~40 years and needs a ton of work done on it. My dad and I can't afford to rebuild any of it at the moment so it's just sitting in our driveway. The only car we have to drive is a big truck, and I don't really want to start learning how to drive on a pig, and since I don't have a reasonable car to use I have no drive *wink* to get my permit or anything.

Yeah, I plan on painting it an obnoxiously bright red with some white racing stripes, my dad wants to make it sound as loud as possible.

Don't flip it like I did with mine.

I'll try my best not too. I've been in three wrecks. Passenger each time. Though if I do, I imagine I'll strike a "death pose" like I did the time my friend and I almost got hit from the side. Not sure why I did it, but I just instinctively flexed (not a good thing at all) at the other driver. Maybe I passed an intimidation check since he swerved out of the way just in time. :P

Luckily I managed to stay calm in the three actual wrecks though. Came out without a scratch each time.

Yeah, I plan on painting it an obnoxiously bright red with some white racing stripes, my dad wants to make it sound as loud as possible.
Sounds pretty ridiculous. Haha :goodjob:

Is that the correct motor for the year? Wouldn't the SU carb be correct for this? Those look like 4-barrel Holley's or something. It matters not, as long as it works!

A little research yielded the idea that the correct motor for a '54 Austin Healey would be an Austin 4 Cylinder – 2,722cc...with SU carbs.

My first car was a 1967 Pontiac Firebird. It was red with a black convertible top. I really liked it, but it was just too much trouble for me. I'm not a mechanic, but as anybody who has had an old vehicle knows, they take a lot of work to maintain.
