Your first vehicle

Wow! My first car was a 1964 Galaxie 500...I wish I still had that car.

My next car, that I bought new, was a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix...I wish I still had that car !

Yep the 64 had a better body style I think for sure, but same engine packages as mine.

But the 65 body style really grew on me after awhile for sure.. lol

Now that is my kind of car! It being free just makes it at least 100 times better too. Ha. :)

Yepper, it was a great car to take long trips on for sure, purred like a kitten.

So, I was curious what the other members of the forums had for their first car? ^_^

My first and current car is a maroon, http://www.carpages.co.uk/renault/renault_clio_range_part_1_31_10_02.asp, which I managed to get at a seemingly very reasonable £2000 (with 62k miles on the clock). Unfortunately, as the car was approaching the end of the re-seller's warranty, the car started to become very unresponsive and frankly dangerous to drive: it appeared that the garage that sold it had merely been rubber-stamping its service history, and I had to spend another £400-500 getting it re-serviced and repaired elsewhere. Thankfully the car is now working like a charm and is an absolute pleasure to drive (much more so than the Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 206, Seat Cordoba or Daewoo Laguna- all of which I learned in), and hopefully it'll last me years to come.

1952 Chevy. I had to park it on a hill so I could roll it to jump start it. I had a lot of fun in that old clunker.

I had a 1995 Buick LeSabre a few years ago, and that thing was sweet. The only problem with it was that it had been across the country a few times and driven back and forth across the state I live in multiple times before I got it (it was a family car).

First car I ever had was a 1981 Ford Mistake Mustang. Drove it for a few years after High School. I was never very happy with it, and after driving for a while and putting up with the constant breakdowns, I vowed that I would never drive another Ford product again as long as I lived. I made that promise over 20 years ago and haven't broken it yet. :celebration:

These days, I hear Ford has been put up there with brands like toyota as far as reliability.

I wouldn't be surprised. Our 1995(? M-reg, anyway) Mondeo is far, far better than its '70s and '80s counterparts, the Cortina and Sierra respectively; even though it still has the legendary Ford electrics, Ford seemingly taking on the "Prince of Darkness" mantle after the disappearance of unreliable parts supplier Lucas. After 15 years of service we're thinking of retiring it, it's just becoming too expensive to maintain, but having taken its more modern counterpart for a test drive (still a Mondeo in name) I'm very surprised at how much the quality has improved again. Though it doesn't give a clear picture of how it would be to live with, it was hard not to notice that it wasn't a bone-shaker on our pothole-ridden roads, and that the inside of the car didn't creak and groan at every opportunity but actually felt very solid and well constructed.

I noticed Rover going through a similar transition in the 1990s, and had a couple of them as company cars: a lot of credit was given to Honda who were their long-time partner by then, which is fair enough in some regards but it was disingenuous to give none to Rover, as some people did. Shame the name has all but disappeared just as they finally started getting their act together.

My first car was an 1986 Renault 18 rebadged as an AMC/Jeep "Sportwagon" under the Jeep license.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/08/Renault18break.jpg

Then I had an 1986 Ford Escort with the 1.9 4 cyl. (it was my sister's).

Then I had a second generation (1987) Pontiac Sunbird that had the 2.0l OHV 122i4 that nickeled and dimed me. It eventually got a transplant engine out of an 1989 Pontiac Grand Am and that stepped it up to the LD2 Quad4 power plant which gave it 150 HP; a huge power increase from the 122i4 that had a whopping 88 hp. Mine was all silver with flippy uppy head lights.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0b/%2786_Sunbird_Coupe.jpg

Then I had a 1990 Subaru Legacy LS with the boxer engine. This car was awesome.

http://landmarkautosales.ca/images/2011cars/1990%20Subaru%20Legacy/SDC13476%20%28Small%29.JPG

After the Legacy I had and still have to some extent a 1999 Plymouth Neon Highline. This was, the first car I ever bought with my own money brand new. I bought it April 7th 1999. The car itself has a build date of October 1998. It was only one of a handful of Neon's that was the color Deep Slate for that year. It looks black but is actually a very dark gray. The other thing special with this car is that it is the only one I know of; and I've known a lot of people with Neons and belonged to a car club that was nationwide that has a black interior. 99% of all Neons have a confetti pattern on their seats and all the seats are gray. Mine are black with no confetti. This car has been across the country and back. Its had two transmissions. It's seen a turbo. It's also one of a very few automatic transmissions that has had a locker installed in the differential. It went from a 2.0 inline 4 cylinder to an engine that was bored out to match a 2.2 liter engine, its had the compression lowered, had a turbo bolted to it. Its run a reverse manual valve body (what this means is that it retains all the internals of an automatic transmission but it has to be manually shifted) P = P, N = N, D = 1, 2 = 2, 1 = 3 on a reverse manual (Stock it was D = 3 and 1 = 1). This car was my life, my baby and I thought I'd never part with it. It was a good car. It was awesome in the snow (before it had a built automatic and a turbo), it was reliable (until it had a built automatic and turbo), it was never plagued with a lot of the problems other Neons had. It was fast (more-so with the turbo and built automatic). Then I got married, had my own little baby and realized that I could no longer support the Neon. So, it was dismantled, sold off in parts and has since been sitting in my driveway, without an engine, transmission, suspension....waiting for the day I finally call a wrecker to take the corpse away. I still think about it, love it. Which is why I haven't gotten rid of it completely. I miss driving it. But, I love my daughter more. The pic is obviously not my car.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8c/1st-Dodge-Neon.jpg

I also had a 1995 Dodge Neon.

I've also owned a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 Z71 pickup truck. It was an awesome truck with a 350 V8. Unfortunately, the 4wd didn't work and it had a myriad of other issues. I still see it around, I ended up giving it to my sister's fiance for all the help he has given me over the years. He still drives it.

Currently, I own three vehicles.

The 1999 Plymouth Neon from above, its on blocks and I don't drive it.

A 2010 Hyundai Accent.

http://automotiveroom.com/wp-content/uploads/2010-hyundai-accent-Pictures.jpg

And a 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport Club Cab.

My dream would be to have a full size pickup with a crew cab. I love Dodge, but if anything came up within my price range of poor and free that had a crew cab and was full size I'd take it.

Lol I wish, I don't even have my liscense, the car has been sitting in a shed for the past ~40 years and needs a ton of work done on it. My dad and I can't afford to rebuild any of it at the moment so it's just sitting in our driveway. The only car we have to drive is a big truck, and I don't really want to start learning how to drive on a pig, and since I don't have a reasonable car to use I have no drive *wink* to get my permit or anything.

2005 Saturn Ion. I got it when I turned 16 and got a job, and I still have it. It's seriously the best car I could've gotten. I love that thing. And most of the car's main problems have been recalled, so if something breaks down, I get it fixed for free. I am definitely keeping it until it is no longer drivable.

An Ion's basically the same thing as a Vauxhall Astra, isn't it? Only with a boot, which I think used to be the Vauxhall Belmont, but I'm quite out of touch with cars at the moment.

No. Saturn's version of the Astra is the Astra. Saturn Astra was unveiled in 2007 and was in production from 2008 - 2009. The Saturn Astra was slated to replace the Ion but they are two different cars.

The Astra is still being sold under Buick, Chevy, Opel and a few others. But the Ion is gone.

I'd assumed it might've been the previous Astra (there's been about five(?) different types over the years) given GM's habit of re-using the same basic design across its various brands; some are less obvious than others, though.

Edit: in fact it was, although it would be fairer to say that the previous Astra was much the same as the Ion, since the latter preceded it.

Edit 2: it's only recently that they've started "harmonising" names, it seems: the Vauxhall Astra was the same as the Opel Kadett, though I think they'd started calling the Opel car an Astra too by the time the Ion appeared.

The first and only car i have bought so far is my 1995 Chrysler LaBaron. It's pretty run down but it hasn't had any problems lately. It's fun to drive at night, but svcks during the rain. It's also not bad on gas.

Or what my friend said: F***ed Over Rebuilt Dodge.

I can try for my license in a few weeks, but I still don't know what I want. Only cars I've driven were the two Chevy Cobalts from Driver's Ed, my moms Honda Pilot, and my brothers Chevy Cavalier.

First car was a 1970 Ford Torino, and i paid $325 for it. Body was rough but good mechanicals. The front shocks were bad, so the thing sat low in front....so low, that the beam under the motor used to scraqe across a manhole cover near the house. Had it for about a year before i slid on wet leaves into the back of an old ladies LTD. Broke her taillight, scratched her bumper and totaled my car.

After that, I moved up in the world and paid $375 for a 1970 Fiat Spyder. Fun car, when it ran.

First car that I purchased was the one I have now and have had for about a year in a half. A 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. Not speedy but it gets me around and I like the convertible part. It also only had 15,000 miles on it. Cost about $8000. Only bad thing about it is the battery is in a [censored] place.

First- 1965 Mercury Comet (in 1974)

Current- 1990 Buick Park Avenue

Maybe by the time I turn 100 I'll have a vehicle from the 21st century.

Never drove a Cobalt or Honda, but I did own a Cavalier. Bought it for $125 from a workmate and drove it for about 2 years before it finally died on me. Didn't have too many problems with it till it died.

One of the most reliable cars I've owned was a Nissan Sentra (2 of them...an 85 and an 88) also My Buick Lesabre was pretty reliable too.

You need your eyes checked then. :P That's just a trite old acronym that no longer applies (if it every did). You had a unreliable used car. Wow - as if that's never happened with any other brand. My folks had an '81 Ford (Fairmont) with an old 200cc straight six. Damn thing ran forever with nothing but regular maintenance. I've also read that recent Fords (especially the Fusion) are as reliable as their Asian competitors (JD Power and Consumer Reports verifies that from owners surveys).

My folks had an '81 Ford (Fairmont) So did my brother. It was a POS too. One more reason for my distaste for Ford Products

Recent Ford products may be better than they were years ago, but it still doesn't change my opinion about them. I'd rather push a Chevy, than drive a Ford.
