Your most disappointing game?

Civilization V

I've been enjoying this series for almost 20 years... but I wouldnt play Civ V even if you'd pay me to. I've never been that let down by a video game, ever.
Im surprised nobody mentioned it. It wasn't pretty ont the Civfanatics/ 2k forums when that game came out last year (it's not much better a year after i find).

I'd never played a Civ game before, but I recently bought Civ V and thought it was pretty damn fun. Could someone explain to me in what aspects the previous games were better?

Civilization V

Yeah, agreed. I played one playthrough then didn't touch it again.

For me, it's the unit stacking rules (or better, lack thereof), that made the game unplayable for me. In the old Civs, you stacked units and moved them around as one unit. Now you have this stupid one-unit-per-hex rule, which means you have to move every unit individually, and the second they notice an enemy unit, all their moves are cancelled and you have to issue all those move orders again. NO FUN.

Eh, that doesn't sound very tactical to me - stacking your entire army in one place. I did see a mod to fix that though, so it's not as if the game is entirely ruined. Can't remember what it was called however...

F.E.A.R. 2,3. Lame - They are nothing like the 1st which was awesome. Now it's like, magic and....... Bad....
Dungeon Siege 3. WTF!?!?!?! !!!!!!!! I loved 1,2 but now? It's not even a Dungeon Siege game! ?BER FAILURE! Microsoft and Gas Powered should have made the 3rd, not Square Enix! <-- never liked a singe SE game.

Combat rules were different in IV. The entire stack couldn't attack, or be attacked, as one unit; instead, units fought one-on-one, even if they were in the same tile as other units. It wasn't perfect, but it was better than the tedious move-one-unit-per-mouse-click V offered.

The most disappointing game I've ever played was Lords of the Realm 3.

Followed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Followed by The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

In a way, I'd say Doom 3. Grew up on the first two and to be honest I thought it was great, if a little predictable, when I played through it first. On coming back to it, though, and finding it has absolutely zero replayability value was rather disappointing. Not touched it since.

Far Cry 2 was pretty pants as well.

The two that stand out in my mind are Homefront and Oblivion. Both because I thought it would be much better than they were implemented.

Homefront sounded like a great concept story, but in my mind I guess I imagined you had the freedom to go where you wanted like in Crysis. If I had known it was going to basically be a shooting gallery where you barely even get to move your own character half the time, I would have never even bought it. Not to mention it only was 4 hours long.

Oblivion didn't live up anywhere near to my expectations as a game in one of the greatest series of all times. The flaws of implementation were just too great to go into detail here. I take much of the blame myself actually for Oblivions disappointment. I guess I was expecting each title to build on the greatness of each one before it. I learned a harsh lesson that day, but a good one.

Deus Ex: HR has proven to be pretty disappointing, too bad since I was hoping for a distraction until skyrim comes out. At least I got it for free I guess.

Yes so the good DAO DLC prepared you for how bad DA2 was?

You kidding? Your definition of good includes Leliana's Song and the Darkspawn Chronicles? Ok.

Considering
Stone Prisioner
Warden's Keep
Return to Ostigar
Witch Hunt
where all amazing

and
Leliana's song and Darkspawn cronicles, while not as good, were still better then most DLC rleased for games.

Errrr.... Disagree!

Stone Prisoner was good. Very good, and Shale was an amazing character.

Warden's Keep and Witchhunt were mediocre.

Return to Ostagar was poor.

Leliana's Song and Darkspawn Chronicles I haven't played, so I have no opinion about them.

5. Halo. "ZOMG its teh best FPS evarrrr!!!". No. No it wasn't. It was skull-crushingly boring and possibly the most overrated game of all time

I could replace halo with half life (2). Seriously, people overhype ANYthing valve does. Portal wasnt that great either, but dear god I never hear the end of it.

Mass effect 2
Fable 2
Fable 3 (expected fable 2 (low standard)) but damn they managed toi make it worse.
Borderlands.

I hate sequals.

If Half Life 1 and 2 were so bad/dissapointing why have the stayed tied as the highest rated PC games of all time since 1998(Half-Life 1) and 2004(Half-Life 2) when they came out?

No game is liked by everybody, and any game "at the top" is bound to have some amount of overinflated hype keeping it there. Combine the people who just don't personally like the game with those who still accepted enough hype to get it, and you easily end up with some people who would be disappointed by it. "Disappointing" and "bad" aren't the same thing, either.

Why is CoD the biggest selling game ? Obviously it is amazing to shift such numbers, not at all a recycled mediocre game.

Next you will tell me oblivion is what many rpgs should aim to be for its sucess. Despite it being copy and pasted to hell.

Seriously im suprised anyone still thinks popularity = quality.

Morrowind. It is an awesome game, but I don't understand why people say "It's not a game, it's an experience" BS.

First off, I never said popularity = quality.

Secondly, Half-Life when compared to CoD/Halo/Gears/Battlefield is VASTLY less popular, and still gets better ratings.

Thirdly, as if Morrowind wasn't copy pasted to hell either?

Morrowind had as many flaws as Oblivion did, people just choose not to remember them because of nostalgia.
-Exceedingly vague and poor directions, "the cave you are looking for is south of town A but east of Fort B", way to go that's only like a giant portion of the map.
-The combat was crap, having a 100 blade skill and still missing all the time because of the terrible dice roll system.
-No form of manual blocking, again a unreliable dice roll even at a skill of 100.
-The Inventory was cluttered.
-Ability to wear armor + cloths destroyed all balance because of begin able to have ungodly amounts of enchantments
-Cliff racers, nuff said.

Ratings from what ? Reviewers, metacritic ? Wherever they are from reality is those ratings are what gamers want to hear, not an actual representation of the game.

I never mentioned morrowind. I jsut said oblivion was a poor game.
