Your most unpleasant way to awake

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:37 pm

Anything involving loud noises, cold items -be they hands, wash cloths or plain water :nono:

-abruptly.. always a bad sign that the rest of the wake up is gonna be unpleasant.

-knowing there's no coffee in the house and I'll have to go out first and get some.. other people.. beware.

-having slept on rocks.

-next to someone with cold feet. -this is closely related to the second one, but deserves special attention..

..any combination of the above mentioned is just oil on the fire.

To be fair, he's only stating his preference. He's not saying it's wrong, or anything, unless I've misread his post.
Yes, just because you tolerate something doesn't mean you enjoy it or like to do it.

Although that has happened loads of times to me...but where else could we sleep? No funny business, I'd think my ass would remember if so. :P

Same, isn't really a big deal imo

Now waking up to find a drunk, half naked girl snoring next to you, on a Tuesday morning, after you went to sleep alone (and sober)... that's quite scary.

"Kompaniassa her?tyyyyyys!"

Finns will understand...
"Hei, her?tys! s? oot kaks-aapee!"
Or, someone waking you up 3AM for three hours of guard duty. Usually when you're not informed of this beforehand. Most often happens when you had trouble falling asleep.
And they put me to that [censored] about twice a month, bastards.

No, he didn't state his preference regarding the topic, he just responded to a post with a very poor guess seeing it wasn't the right answer. Which also made me think of a popular proverb, but I'm keeping that one for myself as well.

Quite. Just two days ago I was supposed to sleep in a tent with a bunch of friends, most of them males, and it wouldn't had been a big deal. It never happened though, we spent all night sitting by the campfire.

And later we discover that one of our corporals had walked into our own pipe mine...

I've gotta add the time when we set our camp into a swamp... Nice plan. Atleast our opfor didn't search form there.

if i fall off a cliff or trip over in a dreaam, i actually feel like i'm falling irl, and wake up abruptly, scared like hell :ahhh:.
the garbage truck. i usually sleep with my left ear on the pillow. why? my right ear is deformed and deaf (an the tip is almost pointed... i might be half-elf), so i can sleep through almost anything while resting on my left ear, but sometimes i don't rest on it on mondays... and the damn truck wakes me up.
my sister pulling my blankets off to wake me up.

but, i really hate two certain ways of falling asleep:
being too tired to fall asleep. literally.
when i start to think about something, i often become oblivious to everything around me, and i cannot slow my train of thought (im not ADHD). if it happens at bedtime, i'll be awake for hours on end.

I woke up from a dead sleep with my friend shooting his AK-47 off right beside my head. He actually shot holes in our friends cabin roof. (A driftwood and tarp cabin on http://manlymedia.com/documentaries/sombrio.) I was hung over. They had been up for hours, and felt I should be up to.

I quite literally jumped straight up, spun twice, then landed on the bed again. Talk about an abrupt awakening. They had a good laugh.

I woke up once bacause of a very painful cramp in pretty much all of my body, mainly the legs.
It was in the middle of the night and I forced myself to stay quiet as I didn't want to wake up all the neighbours.
Walking was painful the following day, that is probably the most unpleasant way I've ever woken up.

I had the exact same thing happen last summer. Odd sensation waking up in excruciating pain. All my leg muscles were constricted and rock hard. It felt like someone was bending my toes backwards and the tendon was being stretched to it's limit. It lasted for about 3-4 minutes. I was rocking, rolling, and flopping all over my bed the whole time.

Like you, my legs were killing me the next day and walking was a real chore.

Oh god or when my dog somehow manages to get into my room. He whines, and yips, and makes all sorts of irritating sounds. Jumps on the bed and acts like he needs to get outside or else the world will end if he can't mark his turf. Then he starts growling really low and a little bit of barks. Then he'll very viciously tear any and all loose blankets from my bed and then go back to making annoying sounds. If that fails he will acquire a squeak toy and jump up right beside my head and squeak said toy for 20+ minutes if he has to. I'm sure he could go for hours, but 20+ minutes of squeaking and annoying sounds was enough for me. After 30 minutes of abuse by this tiny Shih Tzu I get up look at him all angry and yell "What the hell do you want?" He then promptly jumps off the bed, runs into the other room (with his toy), and then falls back to sleep. If I try and go back to sleep, he will come back and do it all over again.

It's the second worst way to wake up.

Edit
Waking up with a charlie horse just starting to form. I get up and walk around for a few minutes and it seems to go away.

Being startled awake by the phone or a loud noise outside is a bit unsettling. And waking up in pain stinks. But I guess the worse was waking up to a bear trying to crawl into a window I'd left open. YIKES!

I hate it when that happens. My calves do that on a semi-regular basis, the only way to stop the pain is to forcibly straighten my leg, but if I do it too fast I strain the muscle which will be stiff and painful the rest of the day. The number of times I've had to leap out of bed as soon as I wake, though...

I've been forced to sleep under less than ideal conditions and many times been awoken from that sleep under worse conditions.
  • Rocket attacks. That's enough to pull your sphincter up to your throat.
  • An APC catching guy-lines in it's tracks and ripping half my tent tent away. Thought I was getting rolled on...

Ironically, growing up my Mom always told me "It takes a bomb going off to get you out of bed". Never a mention armored carriers, but prophetic none the less.

I woke up to the sound of crunching once to see a half-eaten crow the cat had kindly left about an inch away from me on my pillow.

I had one leave half of a field mouse on the pillow next to me. My first thought was, "What the [censored] did I do while asleep?"!, until it all came into focus when seeing the cat perched on the desk with a menacing facade of satisfaction. I mean, what the hell is wrong with those little sociopaths and lack of respect for clean linen?

In the hospital, two minutes after falling asleep because the alarm thing goes off because my IV fell out of my arm, since my body instinctively wants to turn on my side or half on my stomach when I sleep, but I'm forced to remain on my back.

Also, waking up before 7AM by an alarm clock is very unpleasant for me and leaves me feeling anxious and zombie-like for the rest of the day.
