Your most unpleasant way to awake

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 7:42 am

So I just woke up and noticed a grey thing rushing besides me. Turns out it was a spider ... in attack mode, one second later and it would have running all over my face.

I woke up to the sound of crunching once to see a half-eaten crow the cat had kindly left about an inch away from me on my pillow.

I've woken up with sleep paralysis several times too, which is never pleasant.

Generally like today, when I woke up after about half the sleep I need feeling in too much pain to stay in bed. That's a bit too much of a regular occurrence these days.

Though the most alarming was just a few days ago when the wardrobe door burst open in the middle of the night, which troubled me somewhat. Still haven't figured out how or why.

Yeah. I've since taken to leaving various lights on overnight. My other half sleeps like a log so doesn't really object. Probably sounds silly, but I'm not fond of weird things I can't figure out and have never been a fan of the dark at the best of times.

If its damp, wood can swell and when the doors are closed the pressure can force them open, ive seen it happen before.

Worst was waking in hospital after an operation, i had an oxygen mask strapped to my head, problem was i vomited 5 times once after another, couldnt communicate and tried to tear the mask off my face but it was strapped to my head, amazing how quickly you can work out how to remove something while in distress, needless to say by the time the nurses responded i tore the mask off only to do a replay from the exorcist.

Let see either when my wife is having a night terror or when my pain wakes me up 20 minutes after I go to sleep

Don't think it was that, the wardrobe isn't especially well sealed. Most likely explanation is it was one of the spring clips holding the doors shut doing something odd, although I wasn't able to get a similar result when I fiddled about with them.

You live in England. The whole country is haunted. ;)

I hate telephone calls (usually wrong numbers) in the middle of the night. Takes me forever to fall back to sleep after one. Apartment living isn't too much fun either (so happy I have a house now). Couples fighting next door or below in the middle of the night - awoke to a very loud door slam and screaming on more than one occasion.

Don't remind me, there is something really creepy about gf's dad's house; I'd quite like to believe this one is uncontaminated by such things!

What's even worse than midnight phone calls is being woken up having dreamt that the phone or doorbell rang. Kind of svcks when it's your own imagination doing it!

Fortunately we don't get too much in the way of late-night shenanigans, about the only regular things are the teenage lad across the road returning from his Saturday night pub discovery and the strange ranting when the neighbourhood schizophrenic forgets to take his meds and starts wandering the streets. We sometimes get rowdy drunks up at the playing field larking about with the children's activities: what it is with drunks and kids' playgrounds anyway...?

I used to suffer badly with panic attacks and sometimes I would wake up with one, sweating and shivering with heart palpitations and strong feelings of anxiety and unease. On more than one occasion I was convinced I was dying. That was nasty.

Telling you about the most pleasant way I have been awoken would result in my being banned from the forums, so I'll leave it to your imagination...

That would probably make me want to never sleep again, or at least find a new house!

My worst way of waking up is around 3 AM and then not being able to sleep more after that.

Being (sorta) punched in the face by a snoring spouse who often flails about in their sleep. Or kicked in the shins by same. It can create a bit of appeal to the old sitcom cliche of twin beds.

Are you out of your mind? How am I supposed to ever sleep again? Oh god.

Note to myself: You don't simply click on a link, Exorince posted.
(Where do you even find this stuff? You must have a whole library of these things and just wait for the right opportunity to post them!)

Dad flipping your mattress over...

Head butting the ceiling after a nightmare...

Sister telling you the cats dead...

Possum rummaging in your food satchel while camping...

Ah, simple reason then - ghosts.
