AaGeOn's HQ Texture Pack - WiP -

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 1:54 am

I can't tell much of a difference. Can anyone post a screen that shows the biggest difference?

Really? How could any other than me post a screen atm? Did you read the OP? Can't see a difference? You must be Ray Charles!? :P
Or I'm doing a great job staying close to vanilla. :D

Hi there, loving the look of things so far, it feels like understated quality rather than over-the-top obnoxiousness to me which is great.
However, I do have one constructive (hopefully) criticism on this screenshot here:

I can see that you tagegd it as highly experimental, and I cannot know how far finished this texture is, but I find it has lost all of the charm of the bethesda original. I loved seeing all the various shapes, sizes and colours of stones in that texture. I even remember saying 'ooh' when I first saw it, and yours to me just looks plain

Im keeping my eyes on this mod though, and thank-you for spending the time on it for us :D

That texture won't make it into the final version, don't like it my self, it was a little experiment :)
Thanks for the comment!

I just wanted to say great work so far. Incredible. I know people who mod don't get paid but they deserve a bit of praise at least.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s5/AaGeOn/TEST20-11-4.jpg --> base texture, needs further detailing
The ground here also looks more dry than before, nothing you could grow vegetables on... make it look a bit more wet :>

You quote it quite nicely, maybe you missed it? :) : "base texture, needs further detailing" --> which means it's just the first layer ;), I know it needs a wet surface.

Well its hard to see a difference... and if I see one, Im asking myself whats better the "before" or "after" one :/
But you have time to work on it. I think it could be awesome....but you need many extrahours ;)

I think that's what he's going for -- subtle. Less blurry, but the same look, rather than arbitrarily changing things.

^ This :)
Altough the textures are different, the original feel is still there. Some textures are 8x bigger than the original ones (incl. the normals).
I want to provide crisp clear textures, with the same feel and equal art quality :)

would it actually be possible to implement dx11 features like tesselation in skyrim, once the creation kit is released?

Not unless Beth releases a DX11 engine patch. God, I'd love it if they did, though.

last before/after one is kinda the one I don't like. I prefer the before picture as the snow is only really on the top of the log where as your after shot has snow all round the sides. still cool though.

Any clues as to what you next update will be, hmmmmmmm? perhaps some nice tundra, or the volcanic area in east march?

the before picture of the log has snow around the sides too, the layered snow is not part of the texture ;)

what do you mean by layered snow? the snow on the trunk?

in regards to before picture:
I know that one has snow around the sides as well, but it has quite a bit less on the sides and a lot more on the top of the trunk.

If only there was a changeable slider bar for the amount of snow on a model/on a texture at one point. obviously from 0-100%. and could also change on the fly with weather. for example, one day it's snowy in one area, then two, three, four days later it's back to normal. One can only dream.

OH! i get it now! the snow it self is a separate texture that overlays on the trunk?

Yup.

The shader does use the normal of the texture it overlays, however, and being white that makes bad normals stand out like festering sores.

Which is why much of skyrim looks rather bad when snowed over, the low res and compression artefacts really stand out then.
