Anyone disappointed with the voice acting?

For some reason I want the guard's voice from oblivion back. It always gave me a good feeling

The only voice acting that made me cringe was the Whiterun court wizard ... forget his name, Farengar or something close to that.

I'm more disappointed by what they have done with it. NPCs are so generic and say the same crap over and over and over again. Cut down on the number of voice actors and increase the variety of what NPCs say. I can't remember who had which voice anyway, and I wouldn't really care even if they were all the same.

As for the famous actors, I wish they wouldn't use those cause they immediately take you somewhere else, like a movie you remember with them etc., just like OP says.

They are good for american standards, but still pretty crappy IMO. Only one I liked was general tellius (colonel tigh from BSG). ITS THAT FRAKKIN SONG!

I use the japanese voices with the rest in english. They are far, far, FAR better. They take voice acting pretty serious over there. Just switch steam to jp, copy voices and voices-extra bsa's to another folder, revert steam back to english, switch to offline mode, and replace the voices&extra files with the japanese ones you saved elsewhere. Huge improvement. Everything else, including subtitles, is still in english.

Wow,that's actually pretty cool. Thanks.

Quite welcome. You will recognize some voice actors (seiyuu) if you watch anime too  They just put a ton of effort into it. In english the blades and imperials had the best voice acting hands down, whereas the JP voices almost all sound great. The guards sound really menacing.

I think that the guy who playes Enthir in the College of Winterhold is great. he also plays Belethor at belethor's General Goods in Whiterun.
On the other, whoever does the voicework for Farengar, the Whiterun Court Mage, is really awful.

It's nice to hear that they hired more than 6 people to do all the voices this time, but some of the voice acting is just terrible, not believable at all sometimes. There were time where I could tell that the actor was reading from a script.

Argonians and Khajiit were the most dissapointing since they only had 1 voice for each six... That and Female Khajiit using dragon shouts is just......

Apart from that, it's better then Oblivion, but still not good enough, but thats down to Xbox having such limited space on their damn disks....

Compared to Oblivion and Morrowind, it's millions better.

Although I wished they had a few more Nord variations. (Like how at the start you hear Hod, Ralof and Gerdur have a conversation and Hod and Ralof have the same voice)

i have to voice my opinion:

who cares if voice acting is good or not? it takes away nothing from gameplay. i loved the voice acting in 2worlds1 and oblivion and morrowind and fallout3. made me laugh. poor voice acting is meaningless to me. it doesn't change the fact that i still can't decorate my house or the dialogue lacks depth or there is no character creation.

it's trivial and worthless.

For whats its worth. Many voices in Dragon Age sound like they are voiced by Star Trek actors, and thats because they ARE voiced by Star Trek actors. Dont be surprised to hear cptn Janeway. Her role is fitting too.

I thought so. The guy who played Tuvok is there too.

The voice acting needed about twice as many voice actors for general populace. No big name actors, spend the savings on more VAs.

The next step is to never duplicate lines from one character to the next. You have the actors, don't make them all repeat "me, I call them treasures!". Mix it up.

I wish they would stick with the male Dark Elf voice actor from Morrowind, and the male Argonian from Oblivion.

From Skyrim, they should stick with:

)the cool white guy. The one who does the voice actor for the dude at Warmaiden's. Just don't give him so many parts, next time.

)the little girl. Maybe they can have teenagers in TES6

)The people who play the leaders of Stormcloaks and Imperials

)If they can't find anyone better, then keep the Orc, if they can get him to do better combat sounds next time

The list is pretty half assed. I like a lot of the unique voice actors.

So, I think the voice acting is mostly great. A couple of the voice actors really annoy me. But such is life?

EDIT: Opps, I'm sorry, I thought we were discussing the quality of the voice acting. If we are talking about the quality of its implementation, you will have to listen to me rant for an hour or so about how it's pretty much game ruining.

He sounds like an exchange student from Iceland.

Mjoll the Lioness is quite bad. It is like the voice actor is only reading her lines out of a script. I always expect to hear the flipping of a page when she talks.

Someone mentioned Ulfric here. The voice of this actor itself is good, but I cannot make much of it. It sounds to me like the Jarl of Windhelm and leader of the Stormcloaks is also working as a director of a post office. It is a deep voice alright, but dull and bored, too. I fail to believe that he can inspire people to fight for his cause. His voice sounds like he could not even get a dog to bark.

This. One of them is really nasal too. Also, I can't stand old ladies that say "hherbs". But the little girl rocks.

Stop right there, criminal scum!

Oh, wait, that's imperial. I don't remember the nords. That's a good sign.

I don't have a problem with simply sticking with text personally. The Elder Scrolls Morrowind is the greatest game in the history of the universe. me into the world, lore, and history more than any other game before it, and all with mostly text.

Half the time I just click through and read the subtitles for quest text anyway. I do love the voice comments as you walk around and pass by npc's though. Again I enjoy it a lot more with the jp voice overs.

IMHO, the voiceacting is pretty good. The Khajiit and argonians are WAY better than they were in Oblivion. I also don't mind hearing recognizable voices that were in other games (like how Ratchet and Tidus have the same VA, or Alistair from DA:O and that guy from Uncharted 2, names fail me), though I have no idea what stuff Esbern's voice actor did, so it's new to me.

I also like how not every member of a race and gender use the same voice. Some dark elf's sound like some younger nords, and some have a slight aussie-esque accent. Some nords have an Arnold schwarzenegger accent (GET TO THE DRAGON!), and Hadvar's voice is probably the best of the nords' voice acting.

EDIT: My one disappointment is the bard voice acting. The singing is terrible. I don't care if that's how bards actually sounded in the olden days, the typical fantasy bard is supposed to have a singing voice of flowing gold that can make patrons weep with joy or sorrow, inspire soldiers into a berserker frenzy, or, if you like The Gamers, get the bard some action even with the most prudent person just from a sonnet.
