Appealing to the masses...

I really loved the first Fable game, and was already accessible for anybody to play. Somebody didn't think that and basically try to make it more accessible....that damn dog :sadvaultboy:

That's actually synonymous with what I said...

No, it isn't....? I have no idea what you are talking about.

People who play Sims are rarely pure casual players.

That is often true for people I know online, but seldom true of people I know in real life. My mother is a good example: she only plays two games (and only a couple of hours a week), Majesty and The Sims 3. She would still be playing the original Sims if I hadn't bought 2, and then 3 for her.

My problem with Origins wasn't so much any single battle, but that each "dungeon" could take an entire play session to get through. Most of these were filled with the same fight ad infinitum, and the same useless piles of loot everywhere. So while a single fight in Origins tended to have fewer enemies to deal with, the constancy of combat became very aggravating.

Oh God, this. I hated slogging through the Deep Roads in Origins, 'cuz there was a battle every fifteen feet, it seemed. Way too much fighting going on in there. DA2 spaced its encounters much better.

Then she is likely a casual hardcoe player, like oh so many people. Assuming she doesn't dip into the game for ten minutes and do something else after.
(Why is it that side-topics pop up on this forum in several threads at once? Always!)

I played it so much I had to get my disc repaired, with what was referred to as "a new machine from america" like we'd bought a tractor on the lend-lease or something.

The man in the shop said Sims and GTA SA were the most common ones that people wore out.

And if that's not hardcoe, then I don't know. ^_^

Supreme Commander 2. I suppose it's an okay game, but I fell in love with the original because it was like Total Annihilation. The second? Not a bad game but not what I want in RTS's.

Warcraft. Sure it's now an immensely popular MMORPG but I'm a bit bugged by the directions taken. Warcraft III cut down on the scale and eliminated naval warfare, something that was an excellent addition in Warcraft II. And that's not getting into the retcons and lore changes that make the TES series look consistent in comparison.

Don't worry. WarCraft and WoW are separate time streams. Confirmed by the devs and put into action through the Knaak books.

I've heard this in passerby and knew that there was some time travel that went on in some of the books but I never knew it was confirmed that they had two timelines. Sweet.

So does that mean there may be a Warcraft 4 RTS in the distant (this Blizzard we're talking about :hehe:) future?

To quote Gabriel Tosh...

Maybe yes, maybe no.

But seriously perhaps after Diablo 3 and Starcraft II Legacy of the Void.

IIRC, Deus Ex 2 was dumbed down a lot to cater for the console masses.

I'm oddly positive when it comes to series I like. I can't think of any series that has gotten worse over time. If I like one game then I'm pretty sure I will like the sequels no matter what.
On the contrary, if I don't like a game then I wont even bother to play another from the series.

Yes, I hate it with most things, from games to movies to consumer electronics..

it svcks the big one.

It's why I steer clear of anything squeal-esk unless it comes recommended by peoples I trust.

It prevents my disappointment in society from spiking :)

Not really. :)

I just don't go for the re-hashed product hype anymore.

If they're screaming that this here is great because the previous one was great as well and I shouldn't miss out on this deal of a lifetime.., then I start wondering why they replaced the original product when it was sooo great to start with..

"New and Improved" is another phrase that makes me wanna use a belt-sander on my gonads..

I remember eagerly awaiting the new Metallica album. My friend and I were tired of hearing Enter Sandman, Unforgiven, etc all the time and were ready for the new one. We went to the store on release day, bought Load, got back in the car and quickly put the tape (yes, tape) in the stereo, and were immediately "WTF?" It was so far removed from the Metallica we had been listening to since the '80's. Reload wasn't any better. St. Anger was ok, and I haven't even heard Death Magnetic.

Yeah but at least Load and Re-load still had solos. St. Anger didn't even have that, granted some of the songs were catchy but I like my Metallica with solos.

IMO Mass Effect 2 wasn't dumped down, but shifted to the other direction. Combat is lot more complicated, and still a shooter just like its predecessor. It's overall character depth and plots are far cooler than Mass Effect 1. ME 1 is a congregation of super cliche, ME 2 is a cliche made supercool. Reading ME1 dialogues bring me back to cheesy soup opera, reading ME 2 dialogues bring me back to Bladerunner, Shadowrun, Gamma World those kind of super cool classic cyber punk.

How do you wear out a disc? Forgive me, but the only times I ever need to get discs replaced is when some careless person that I loan it to leaves out and scratches it all to hell.

Bad machines, sometimes bad discs in the first place.

Dragon Age 2.

So true.

5 hours played, and I'm not sure if I will be able to play it ever again.
