[RELWIP] Armoury of Tamriel, Thread 5

Well I like the standard names of the Weapons such as Elven/Dwarven

I can't see referring to them back and fourth as Dwemer/Dwarven in the inventory. Could you explain how this makes sense? I see what you're saying, but I have to refer to them as either Dwemer or Dwarven. I can't go back & fourth between the two randomly like Bethesda. I'm one person, not a team, therefor I'm capable of greater consistency.

I changed their name from Elven to Altmeri because despite how they were presented in Oblivion, the in-game literature makes it very clear that those items are of Altmeri design. If everyone else who invents a weapon style gets those items named after them (See: Imperial items, Nordic items, Dwemer Items, Orcish etc...) it wouldn't be fair to the Altmer to name their items "Elven". Should I also change all of the Nordic, Breton and Imperial items to be called "Human Sword"? lol. Now the Dunmer also have their own style in Skyrim and if Dunmer are getting swords named after them I have a hard time accepting that the Altmer, the most self-absorbed of all, would be OK with their weapons being called Elven.

IMO gamesas used the generic terms Dwarven & Elven to attract the mainstream gamer without ES background.

Here's my version of the flavour text for the first batch of weapons from http://static.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/images/2933-2-1325718524.jpg, though I think they could use a little more work. They're each under 130 characters in length, which I think makes them just under two lines of text.
Spoiler

Do you want to finish-up descriptions for the rest of the unique weapons sheet?

It won't be long before I have another unique weapons sheet ready. :P

I did a couple just now. I've only had one cup of coffee so I'm sure there are some silly errors. I focused more on flavor than actual effects for some of these.
Spoiler
  • Fury, Overwhelmed by the spirit in the sword, the wielder fights with unmatched aggression at the cost of their own defenses.
  • Tamrek, An artifact of the Empire, this sword was lost when the Morag Tong assassinated its prior owner.
  • Widowmaker, Just holding the axe makes you feel a little dirty, as if its owner spent a significant time naked. (Would be fun having a quest involving witches and stolen clothes with this one)
  • Goldbrand, Boethia gave this fiery katana to her champion on Vvardenfell and in Cyrodiil, and has passed through many hands since.
  • Ice blade of the monarch, Created with the soul of an Ice Monarch by Almion Celmo, the blade of this sword freezes all who touch it.
  • Magebane, An Ashlander relic dating back to the settlement of Vvardenfell, this sword protects its owner from hostile magic.
  • Shimsil, Once owned by the Necromancer in Mawia, the holder of this blade seems to blend into the shadows.
  • Stormkiss, This axe was sent to sea during the burial of Nord Hero Olmgerd, the ship was lost off the coast of Vvardenfell.
  • Black Hands Dagger, Given to one of the Morag Tong's most skilled assassins this blade svcks the very life from its victims.
  • Cloudcleaver, The red stain on this axe looks like it came from all the blood of its foes... Or maybe it's just wine?

They're great. I like them. Maybe you & Albatross should get together and split them up so we don't end up with duplicates. I would hate to have to choose a description. :P

Won't be long before I have another, larger unique weapons sheet. Swords are done and so are most other weapon types.

That's definitely a good idea. I'll shoot him a PM and see about possibly setting up Google Docs or something so we can collaborate. :)

I'm going to hop in-game right now to put together a new unique weapons sheet with all of the ones I've done so far. There will only be a handful more than what I'm already done.

I must say, the retextures of the artifacts look superb. I can't tell you how disappointed I've been uniquely named weapons to look identical to the bog standard counterpart.

I already tried to get permission from JaySuS and other weapon mods to share their models so that I could use them in my mod, but so far I've either gotten a 'no' or was ignored each time. Guess it's not like it was in the days of Morrowind modding...

Sad to hear...would really make a great addition. But if the creators don't want this, I guess there is nothing you can do...

Edit: Love the look of the artifacts!

It's Sunder!!!
I like the meshes. I just can't do anything with them without them being UV mapped. Don't be discouraged though. You're doing great with what I've seen so far.
Well, I'm thinking I'll get a few more meshes done(I was thinking Chrysamere :P) then reupload all the meshes I currently have with their UV maps, once I figure out how to export them :P
Glad you like my work!

I'm no great writer myself, but I'm happy to contribute to the writing. In addition to the meshes, if you want them Baratan. Which reminds me: can anyone guess what weapon this is? It's just the head, but I should be able to finish it tomorrow

hint: it's a very special hammer
hint number 2, it's in the file name. ;)

I have officially finished all of the artwork for all of the basic weapon style & material combinations... and I am re-doing them one-by-one as I implement them into the game.

What do you guys think of my textures overall saturation-wise? Too high? Too low?

I like how this is developing. I think you are going to need a wiki of some kind because this is getting massive. You may also want to look at having separate forum. I would recommend either http://www.darkcreations.org/forums/ or http://tesalliance.org/forums/. I'm a member of both and the people are wonderful. Some of the same people are on both.

I'm going to work on adding the rest of the unique maces, warhammers and bows while I give you guys a chance to come up with some descriptions.

Looking at enchantments in SkyEdit I see that enchantments are so much more advanced than in any other TES game. We have so many options.

Saturation seems good to me. Maybe a hair strong, but I'd rather have them be colorful than drab. :D

Saturation is fine at first glance... after consideration, it might be on the high side, but nothing that I would complain about :)

How about in-game?

In-game there is a desaturation filter present. I don't think it affects the inventory screen though.

They seem a little more saturated than normal items, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Oh, well, I use Skyrim Enhanced Shaders with the vanilla post-processing effects (like the desaturate) disabled. So they look more vibrant than they would in vanilla. I'll defer to those who see them with vanilla post.

Depends on the particular item. Some are more or less saturated. The crazy ones like Grimsever are definitely more saturated than most vanilla items, but my Dwemer metal is much less saturated than Bethesda's.

Well, how does it look to you in-game? Do they look good or do they look out-of-place?

Well, as I said... it's not immediately noticeable. After looking and thinking for some time, it feels like it could be desaturated just a little.

Grimsever's one of the few I've seen in game (v0.5.0) and I thought its saturation was good. Things like specular highlights and env mapping don't really come across in your screenshots, they go a long ways towards making the materials look real (and can tone down saturation a bit), and I think they look pretty good in game.
