Bethseda Taking Lessons from Bioware

I agree. Making Serana the most likable character and un-romancable. How could they do that. Just like what happened to a similar character in the Mass Effect Series: Wrex. My male shepard and he would have made a cute couple.

I agree with you about the forced choices in the game overall, there was too little choices. This made no sense to me since it would only take a single dialogue option to open up a whole other ton of gameplay.

Like you said, opting to help the vampires withuot becoming a vampire. Opting to help the companions without becoming a werewolf. Opting to finish the thief questline without selling your soul to nocturnal. Opting to complete the main story without being forced into the College and Thieves guild. All of these things could have been options, but a lot of people chose to avoid gameplay because it imposed choices on them that they did not want. This seems like a failure to me, although I'm sure someone will tell me to man up or call me an obsessive compulsive control freak (which I freely admit)

I agree with you about not being forced to become a werewolf and/or vampire, but you don't have to become a Thief or Join the College to finish the Main Questline. You can tell the girl at the bridge to the College that you are the Dragon Born and she will let you through to see whats his name in the library. I don't remember having to join the College. I also used the line about not doing anything dishonest with Brynholf (spelling) and didn't help him, but I was still able to go into the ratway and rescue the old guy. (Sorry not good with names.) I could be wrong because I just ignore quests that I start but don't like, but I really think you can sidestep the Mage Questline and the Thieves' Guild Questline and still complete the main Quest.

I wish you could be an assassin without worshipping Sithis. I wish there was a group of assassins tied to the governments (Imperials or Storm Cloaks) that had no religious affiliation at all.

I was glad that I had the option to wipe out the Dark Brotherhood. I wish they'd given us the option to wipe out the Thieves' Guild as well. That would have set very well with my Paragon characters, and made an excellent questline. I wish they would expand on the Foresworn rebellion and perhaps allow me to act as an agent for the revolutionaries.

Despite all that, I still enjoy Skyrim and I loved Oblivion, so I'm okay with it.

I started with Oblivion, so I get nostalgia from playing it. That's what I meant.

Cyrodill is just so incredibly beautiful. I love playing Oblivion for the incredible views!

The only reason I could ever say I liked Oblivion better than Skyrim (which I won't say) is that there were some seriously amazing sidequests in Oblivion. Like the one were I went inside of a painting? That blew my mind. I'd say that's what Skyrim lacks, the little bits of storytelling that were truly magical. And then I got the Forgotten Vale and it was fixed.

You know I read this but all i'm getting at is that you are butthurt because you listened to too many rumors from unreliable sources and you would rather blame Bethesda then your own stupidity for believing in rumors from unreliable sources who couldn't back up their claim besides "TODD SAID WE CAN DO THIS BUT I MISTOOK IT SO INSTEAD I'LL JUST SPREAD AROUND WHAT I BELIEVED I HEARD THEN WHAT I ACTUALLY HEARD." Skyrim is a good game and Dawnguard is a worthy installment to both the game and TES lore, the way they explained how the Snow elves survived makes sense if you bothered to bloody listen to him.

"Vampire Lords are cool and epic,"

"Ah hell yeah hey are, let's write about the vampire lords wanting to take out the sun,"

"Oh that sounds cool,"

"And we'll have vampire hunters,"

"That's awesome,"

"And they are fighting, against each other,"

"Yeah yeah keep going,"

"And so the Dawnguard are sneaking on the vampires, find out about their plans, and have to stop the Vampires from reaching the Elder Scrolls. And you could have epic battle of Vampire Lord bosses,"

"Ehhhh,"

"Eh?"

"I know, Snow Elves,"

"That's more like it,"

"Wtf, Snow Elves, ya gotta be kidding,"

"Vampire Snow Elves,"

"Even better,"

"And dragons,"

"Yeah,"

"Wait, what no guys, wtf...guys..wait"

"Oh and the underworld,"

to be fair you could make any storyline sound bad by doing that

"Hey guys I'm pretty bored of this uriel guy"

"Yeah maybe we should kill him off in this one"

"Ok how?"

"Oh maybe someone could jump out a secret entrance in the imperial city sewers that no one in the imperial city, including the personal guards of the emporer that were supposed to have planned out the escape, knew about"

"...Ok so how will the player be included?"

"Umm....the entrance can be in the jail. And again despite planning the guards put him in the exact cell."

"But why would they let him go then"

"Ummmmm......because the emporer had a dream about him!"

"Hmmm....sounds a bit sketchy.....anyway who would the bad guy be?"

"Uh...well we usually have a daedric prince so lets have one of those! Yeah and to make sure everyone knows he's evil we will make him 50 ft and red with black horns and four arms...."

"So how will the defeat him?"

"Ummmmmmm......I guess someone could turn into a giant burning dragon and fight him......?"

If you miss out all of the details that add depth to the story of course it's going to sound superficial

This. Take a look at a game like Witcher 2. I would much much prefer the Witcher 2 for an Elder Scroll based game, than what they have now. Cause right now this isn't working.

Witcher 2 is nothing like Elderscroll games. While the Witcher 2 is wonderful, dont compare them. If you like witcher 2 more, go play it. Skyrim is working just fine, and so is Dawnguard. Skyrim didnt get game of the year for nothing. I personally prefer an open world game that I can play months and years on end.

Oh lord don't even start that, the whole "villagers dying everytime you fast travel" was annoying back when it was random Dragons attacking towns everytime you went to one/fast traveled.

Stop complaining , we are lucky to get anything at all, besides could you make a better game?

No.

You can say the same thing about a mediocre piano player: "We are lucky to hear his music at all. Besides, could you make better music? No."

It still doesn't change the fact that the music is mediocre. Same with Skyrim. It still doesn't change the fact that Skyrim needs more variety. Your complacency won't change anything for the better. Criticism is always needed to move forward. Complacency will move us back or make us stagnant. In anything, not just video games.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As for Skyrim's choice functions, it's lacking, just like every TES game. For the Main Quest, just like in Oblivion, there's nothing to have a choice about. I didn't expect much. But the whole Blades vs. Greybeards or the Civil War should've been the big side plot to Alduin's reign. Instead of being shoved to the side.
However, I was severely disappointed with the Guilds:
Companions - No choice. You become a werewolf and you eat giant bananas in Narnia. Considering the Companions are basically a mercenary guild, it should've been a choice between being a werewolf and doing these quests or joining the Silver Hands and helping them destroy the Companions or helping them take it over for themselves.
College of Winterhold - Again, no choice. You follow a linear path to become Arch-Mage. Really, it should've been just you progressing through the ranks of the College while making choices that will affect the final battle, slowly unraveling the Eye of Magnus, not having the Eye of Magnus as the MacGuffin that everyone wants. Or having the Psijic order do something other than be a plot device.
Thieves Guild - I think some of you know how much I hate the Thieves Guild. But again, no choice! Why do you have to sell your soul to Nocturnal? Why can't you put your foot down and say, "No! I'm going after Mercer myself because I can shoot radioactive lasers!" Or at the very least, have some choice in management of the Guild.
Dark Brotherhood - No complaints other than the Destroy the Dark Brotherhood quest being an actual quest line instead of a single, kill everything that moves, quest.
DAWNGUARD - So, little complaint here other than there has to be three choices:
- Side with the Dawnguard and kill the Vampires. But Serana should be HUMAN before the final conflict or the Dawnguard will summary execute her. That's how it should've gone.
- Side with Serana, kill Harkon, and become the Master. That's the option that we get with the Vampires.
- Side with Harkon from the beginning. So after you talk to Valerica and get the scroll, you can talk to Harkon and betray Valerica. You can kill Valerica and then follow the trail to get Auriel's Bow. Of course, Serana won't be your companion anymore.
The second way to this quest will be to give Harkon the bow during your confrontation. He'll kill Serana and make you his new "son" of sorts and then, instead of a total blot out the sun thing, Harkon will allow you to blot out the sun every 24 hours like usual. Difference is that you don't get Auriel's Bow and instead, you get x amount of Vampire Lord perks for free.
I think that your ideas are actually really good, accept the reward for siding with Harkon. Without Serana as a follower, you'd probably already have maxed out VL perks, so maybe something more material, like... Harkon's Sword? Some other stuff that's good, and specifically boosts powers when a vampire.
I mean outside of Vampire Lord form, though, like Harkon's Sword. It has the drain all effect, but only for vampires.
I don't think Harkon would let you be his son, he was already planning to kill you off anyway because he knew how powerful you are and how much more powerful he made you, he is power hungry like his two advisers. But the idea is good even though I'd still side with Serana :tongue: always wanted to be the head of a vampire coven since Morrowind.
Well actually a lot of fans wanted stuff from the game jam and we did eventually get those, maybe if we're lucky we'll also get spears in Hearthfire.
It's this type of attitude why developers can get away with flaws in their games *cough*COD*cough*
Indeed. Vamps already got a powerboost. Werewolves did too, but I dont get any cool werewolf armor (companions armor not for me) or the ability to switch between werewolf powers/howls. That'd be cool.
Bioware already did more than enough for its fans by giving a free dlc to add on to the ending. Which by the way was really well done. Its how it should've been the first time, but better late then never.
Same oh and I just remembered something, fans have been wanting crossbows to return since Morrowind and the only reason, and Todd did admit this in an interview iirc, we got crossbows in Dawnguard is because a lot of people were disappointed that they weren't in skyrim. Honestly, Bethesda has been spoiling us a bit with wanted fan service.
