  • Using the mouse wheel to scroll in the arcane enchanter interface also effects the player's 3rd person camera, causing it to zoom in/out as you scroll through menu items.
  • Dragons will sometimes not die properly. They go floppy, become lootable, but the death animation (and consequently soul reward) do not occur.
  • "Helm of Winterhold" quest interferes with the "Purity of Revenge" companions quest. Cause, and workaround is fully documented on the wiki http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Purity_of_Revenge. (quest won't start if you completed Helm of Winterhold & killed the boss.)
  • Effect of Elemental Fury shout can become permanent. Not sure how I did it, but I once managed to have the shout stay active endlessly (until I used shout again). Needless to say, permanently doubling your attack is kinda IMBA ;)

Jesus, what a bug, killed a dragon and no soul has been absorbed, he's just dead lying in front of me and nothing happens.

I have had that happen to me too!

Yesterday I killed a Dragon, it flopped to the floor and became lootable - but didn't 'die'.
Consequently I didn't get it's soul

It was 100% repeatable too - reloaded, fast travelled to where the dragon was, killed it a second time; still broken.

Tried console kill, killall, and resurrect - none had any effect on the 'dead' dragon.

I uploaded a SS http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614968789407480899/3DB4BB1163004687F7E3B2D27B70E3DED8B2CC4A/.

This was a random dragon spawn near the Eastmarch springs (A small distance south east of the dragon stone located there)

Ditto about the dragon who didn't give his soul. And, like you, reloaded, killed again, still no soul.
Maybe, if there's any connection, it was a Blood Dragon. You guys?

Hahaha WOW. That's a staggering bug list, some of them are quite funny.

Not sure if the light source bug you described is to blame for mine and others's ridiculously low FPS in some indoor cells, it seems likely.

This:

* Generally doing anything (killing NPC's, clearing dungeons, finding items) that are required for a quest, BEFORE you ever see/receive that quest, breaks the quest. Quests all need to re-check for triggers having already been achieved the moment you accept them. "

Thank you for putting this in your list. Although it should probably be in bold! Against the spirit of TES games, I outright stopped randomly entering dungeons/ visiting locations in fear of breaking quests: I now only do so if asked by from a questgiver...hoping no other quest will ask me to go back there... It seems that there are a lot a quest/dialog variable issues in this game, much more than in previous games. It's a real plague.

Edit: ...and err...on another note, screw the dragons, deadly buckets and furniture ftw! I started a new char, hit the corner of a bed and a nearby bucket and got killed by them! (damn collision! Now I'll be having nightmares of entering my own bedroom! :P )

I found a bug that renders me unable to kill Paarthurnox. He just sits there with zero health as I smack him with my axe. for some odd reason, the console command to kill him dosn't work either. :brokencomputer:

EDIT: This is after being asked to kill him, NOT after the main quest.

I have a bug with the shield perk "Quick Reflexes", wich slows time when blocking while an enemy is performing a power attack.
It worked perfectly for a long time but now the "Slow Time" effect does not stop properly... it almost always last between 30sec. - 5 minutes...
So now every time i block a power attack, i become like Neo in The Matrix and i run around the entire world, dodging arrows mid flight, and killing everyone before they even understand what's happening.
It might be a coincidence, but it started to happen regularly exactly at the same time i became a werewolf. But i had seen it happen once or twice before, now it's almost always happening.

While it was very fun at the beginning, this is getting pretty annoying, it completely breaks game balance and game flow...

Here's another one

Studded Imperial Armor can not be upgraded unlike Imperial Light Armor or regular Studded Armor

also Studded Imperial Armor has the same defense value as Imperial Light Armor, shouldn't it be a tad higher?

1. I already did the Red Eagle sword quest. I mistakenly picked up another copy of the book and now I get the quest again in my quest log.

2."Return to the Jarl of Riften" does not give the option to become Thane, even though it states to return there in my log. I did enough quests for citizens and even bought the honeyside house but cant get the title.

3.I have done a few quests in Dawnstar and collected my bounties from the Jarl, but the "colllect bounty from Skald" is still in my log, 3 times in a row now.
I can confirm the 3rd one too. Can these be added to the list in the first post? The "colllect bounty from Skald" is not only in the log, after taking the gold, but you can't click on it either (no way to make it active).

Also a misc quest in Winterhold about a girl called Isabelle Ronaila is not registering in the journal. This I tested twice (started a new game, went to Winterhold tavern, made the guy pay his debts, got the misc about the girl, but no entry in the journal). You can still follow the quest (NPCs react) if you write the details on paper or something. Not sure if you can finish it, as without the marker I haven't found the quest cave yet.

Developerss, anybody reading this? Can we have some reaction? Would be really nice if this thread was stickied.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Upon opening a book your game randomly freezes up and goes -60fps with no fix but a restart.

Great list. I've only experienced about half of them. Here are some more:

-Karliah can be asked about the Agents of Stealth, Sabotage, and Strife before entering the twilight sepulcher.

-(Sorry for spoilers here) The companion quest where Koldak dies can end without giving you the next quest in the questline, basically locking the rest of the companion missions. This essentially locks all companion NPCs in place and prevents you from interacting with them. It also makes the shopkeeper from the Warmaiden and a few other NPCs inaccessible.

-Textures can randomly disappear from the game and be replaced by a low-res purple/blue texture, occassionally with some symbols on it. This usually happens for dragons, clothing, or trees. The only way to fix this is exit the game and re-enter. I've also noticed that this blue texture wraps around your weapon and almost immediately disppears while quicksaving.

-Some conversations cannot be backed out of with Tab. Similarly, the Exit button for the mouse in the bottom corner of the screen can disappear during conversations. I had one instance where both of these happened and there was no way out of the conversation I was in. My only option was to reload my autosave. This might be tied to receiving steam messages.

-Steam chat behaves oddly during loading screens.

-You can "Tab out" of some conversations that you shouldn't be able to (like guards trying to arrest you).

-Followers will often attack enemies, even if you're hidden.

-Reading a book and backing out to the inventory screen will mess up the whole interface. Your mouse will no longer be able to select anything in the inventory menus. The only fix for this is exiting/re-entering the inventory menu or clicking on an item category.

-Same issue as above, but occurs in dialogue after asking for training (train, back out, can no longer scroll through dialogue options with the mouse).

-Zooming in on inventory items and rotating them is really awkward on PC right now.

-Companions will frequently talk over NPCs during important converations. Other nearby NPCs can do this too, but Companions are the worst.

-Companions usually only comment on a cave being found as you leave the area, rather than when you first enter the area.

-Some dungeons are not marked as 'cleared' after clearing them.

-During the Sanguine quest, one set of subtitles stayed on the screen until I went through a loading screen, preventing any other dialogue from being read.

-If something gets in the way of an NPC while they're walking a scripted path, they will frequently 'teleport' to the location they feel they should be at, instead of just walking around the object (may be intentional to keep to NPC schedules).

-Performing the optional stage to Muiri's Brotherhood quest before killing the primary target elimiinates the quest compass marker.

-The Misc. quests for helping townsfolk to become thane for varying regions do not disappear after becoming thane.

-Talking to an opponent while they're kneeling on the ground after a fistfight makes the dialogue get...strange. I don't know how else ot describe it.

-I had some serious issues in Markarth during/after the quest with the Forsworn King (sorry, I svck at remembering quest names). I killed the initial three guards, because I didn't realize getting arrested was part of the quest. Now, for no apparent reason 1 out of every 4 guards in that city will become aggressive to me as I walk by (they always appear to be the same ones. Save/loading leaves the same ones aggressive).

-Followers/Companions don't cease attacking when you sheathe your weapon. This means that they'll often slaughter townsfolk and guards while you're trying to yield.

-AoE spell effects can kill your horse and companions too easily (Companions spells can hurt allies too). Some dragon shouts also have this problem, as well as the explosion from killing undead with Dawnbreaker.

-Companions can be killed in some rare cases (may not be a bug).

-During one quest (I think it was stealing the statue of Dibella in Markarth) I racked up a 400+ gold bounty. I paid it off four times and the guards still kept trying to arrest me. I'm not sure what finally got rid of the bounty, but it's no longer an issue.

-Not all bandit guards or leaders will spawn for the bounty quests. I noticed one quest where the Bandit Leader wasn't anywhere to be found (I killed everybody else and returned several hours later. When I returned, they all respawned, including the leader...maybe he just fled the first time?). Another bounty quest I did involved me killing a lone leader with no backup.

-Various other texture issues. Nirnroot glow and water textures often bug and lose their alpha settings.

I've found more, but can't think of them ATM. Also, for those having trouble with companions blocking your exits, try ordering them to move elsewhere, or sprinting into them. That usually makes them back up. Also, for the "is that fur coming out of your ears?" passing comment from NPCs...isn't that related to being a khajiit, rather than a werewolf?

  • Nothing happens in the time wound / elder scroll scene, characters just gaze and wait for nothing and nothing happens
  • Defeat alduin -> alduin respawns every time
  • invisible characters in the civil war quests

First Lessons: Cast Mage Light spell.

Repro
1. Achieve level 8.
1. Clear the Thieves cave/mine on the way to the first town in the main quest line.
2. Complete golden claw mission and dungeon.
3. Run to the stables outside white run and purchase a horse.
4. Ride Horse to mages collage. (on the way there I killed a giant that was passing by.)
5. Talk to Faralda.
6. Attempt to persuade her to let you in.
7. Purchase spell for test. (Did not have the spell before hand)
8. Rerun through the dialogue to take the entrance test.
9. Observe that the player is unable to cast the spell when asked by the NPC.

Result:
Player is blocked from further access to the mages college.

Expected Result:
Player is able to cast the spell when asked or have it active before hand to complete the quest.

Note:
An exploit was used to level the caricature to level 8 at the beginning of the game. (High elf Male)

Once I got to the final quests for thieves guild the Ragged Flagon and Cistern lose textures completely, NPCs have invisible heads and the walls and floors also disappear. Not sure if it is connected but this has started happening throughout the world now too. some shops I enter are completely invisible apart from items on desks and tables.

Im not sure if this is related to the thieves guild or not but it only started happening once I reached that part in the quest. I have been playing 87 hours in total and this has only just started happening.

Repairing the Phial cannot be progressed past the gathering the briar heart stage. You can grab the heart but the quest indicator will remain on the body. If you try to bring the items to the quest giver it will not have the option to complete the quest.

Thanks for the excellent list! Well done indeed, hope you keep it updated even if the mods don't sticky this (which they really need to).

Stuff I've noticed, off the top of my head:

Controls:
-The problems with remapping controls make the game unplayable for many disabled gamers.
-The game assumes the player has a mouse wheel. If they don't, they can't zoom in on the map or zoom in on items. In some cases, depending on the player's resolution, this can make quests and/or dungeons impossible to solve. Again, this is a problem with remapping controls since the mouse wheel is hard coded.

NPCs:
-Many characters can come back to life after you kill them (this is similar to a bug in New Vegas, FO3, and I think Oblivion too), including quest NPCs. I've had Hircine's werewolf come back to life after I skinned it (which may be another bug; skinning the werewolf has no visible effect), and I've heard of one of the Companions (can't remember the guy's name) coming back to life after the Silver Hand kills him. I've also had some of the random encounter NPCs resurrect.
-The Hired Thugs don't seem to have any rhyme or reason regarding when/where/if they appear, additionally they don't seem to scale to the player's level. If you encounter them at level 2 you're helpless, and may have to restart the game to avoid them.
-Quest NPCs that the player must follow (for instance the first two people you meet at Winterhold College) frequently interrupt their speeches to deliver a greeting to the player.
-Similarly to the above, NPCs can and frequently do interrupt the speeches of other, often quest-related NPCs to deliver a greeting to the player, which makes hearing the quest NPC nearly impossible. Even subtitles don't help, since the greeting subtitle overrides the speech subtitle.
-Also similarly, certain dialogs seem to loop indefinitely. In particular, every time I enter Ulfric's castle, he's having the same discussion with his housecarl (I haven't started the Stormcloak questline yet).
-Sometimes NPCs and mobs can get "stuck" during battle, unable to move and/or unable to attack. I've seen this happen to one of the mask wearing liches (can't remember the name, the one with the thief buffs), Aska (think that's her name, the one who helps you fight another of the mask guys), and a dragon. In two of the three cases, the problem ended after I moved closer to the mob; with Aska I had to reload a save.

Graphics:
-HDR cannot be turned off, which makes playing the game quite unpleasant for folks sensitive to sudden lighting changes.

Quests:
-Scripted events seem to have severe problems in many cases, even in the very first scene of the game. In the opening scene there are several points where the player can walk right up to Alduin and stay there indefinitely with no consequences. Neither the NPCs nor Alduin react to the player, and after a certain point they no longer react to anything - they just wait until the player moves to the next scripted event. The only times Alduin will harm or acknowledge the player are when he's scripted to attack NPCs; otherwise, no matter how ridiculous the player's behavior (I very nearly climbed onto Alduin's back!), the player is completely ignored. This sort of behavior is extremely common in scripted events; in most cases the actions of the player are totally ignored to a surreal extent.

EDIT - Forgot to mention:

Controls:
-While the game is running in fullscreen (haven't tried windowed) my keyboard's volume controls don't work. I have to exit the game to adjust the hardware volume level. Not sure if this is a hardware issue on my end, but since I've never had it happen before, even with previous gamesas games, I'm guessing it's Skyrim.

Quests / NPC

after completing the war for the stormclouds you can find empire camps hidden in the wilderness you can kill (its not a real quest but ulfric ask of you to do this if you find them) all soldiers in those camps can be destroyed except for the Legate those are immortal (essential)

great list, the last point, about quest breaking is the most important after me (as I managed to get the game to work), though it happened only few times, it changed my attitude from "let's go that way and see what happens" to "lent's pick a route of dungeon clearing and reqard gahering" generaly between 2 cities and marking the quest that have parts of the action in that area

Okay I played for another hour so naturally I've got a bunch more bugs to mention.

Controls:
-The hand-to-hand attacking animations are so slow to respond to my keypresses (the actual attack hits roughly 1 second after I press the key, getting around 45-60 FPS) that I'm never quite if I've triggered an attack or not. Sometimes the keypresses don't seem to respond at all.

NPCs/mobs:
-Several animals don't seem to have swimming animations, or if they do they're not triggering properly. Watching bunnies hopping around underwater is hilarious.

Graphics:
-On at least two occasions I've gone underwater and the awful, hideous green filter has failed to appear. I am hoping this means the green filter is a bug and it's meant to be pleasant and clear underwater. That would be much better.

EDIT: Forgot one again.

Controls:
-The player is unable to attack while underwater, but mobs can and do attack the player.

When you go to red eagle redoubt for the red eagle quest you also pick up a briar heart from npc at the top of the area. If you do this before picking up the quest "Repairing the Phial" then the briar heart bugs out and will not be counted towards completing the quest. The "Repairing the Phial" quest then instructs you to go back to red eagle redbout and get another briar heart. Even after getting another heart it also does not count towards the quest. Now having 2 briar hearts I can eat one as it is an alchemy ingredient but not the first as it is a "quest item." The quest is stuck and cannot be completed.

"Blood on Ice" quest.

If you have the court mage arrested then the quest will just end, and according to my research this is premature. Corlixto's Treasure shop is closed up for good. You can't get rid of the necromancer amulet. You can't ask the mage about the amulet either. When the court mage is spoken to in the cell the only option he gives is to train you in Destruction spells. Good documentation of quest breaking: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Blood_on_the_Ice

Battle for Whiterun, can't accept the Jarl's surrender. He just loops dialog, and Vingar Grey Mane stands in front of the door to the keep and won't move. Fast travelling will cause the quest to fail.
