Am I the only one who translated this as: "Elder scrolls 5 is going to be announced and Zenimax online are working on an ES MMO"?

Zenimax Online is definitely working on a TES MMO. Ugh...

We won't see any info on TESV until about 2012-13...then it probably won't be released until '14 or '15.

That's just my opinion, anyways. It's not based in fact whatsoever.

Todd and Bethesda Game Studios are hard at work on their next big game, and we're not ready to discuss it.

Bet you $60 that the game their working on is The Elder Scrolls V.

I can't see that happening if TESV is to be the next game. I fully expect an announcement sometime either late 09 or early 10. Bethesda isn't going silent on their games for years now. They're really ramping up. Just look how much shorter it took for Fallout 3 to be announced compared to Bethesda's other games. I expect them to follow the same pattern.

But...! But...! The interwebs promised me you guys were throwing TES down the drain! And they also said that you all threw kittens into meat-grinders for entertainment around the office! Did they get the information wrong?! Are you guys telling me that repetitive online articles with sources that run in circles and with quotes that aren't even direct quotes at all are not good sources of information to take seriously?!

Huh. I think an "I told you so" is in order.

Thanks a million, Pete and Gstaff, for clearing that up and preventing mass chaos of 100+ more threads popping up everywhere declaring the end of the ES world.

Indeed. They already had their break from the series with Fallout 3. Said game would also be the reason why we're not to expect a new TES in the immediate future.

My take on it atleast =P

P.S. I was never worried.

Thank God for this post. I was tired of all the idiots reading so much into Todd's speech and running around crying that the series had come to an end. Seriously. Tons of developers give ambiguous statuses on their projects until they're in a presentable form. Hell, maybe they really aren't working on a TES V just yet, but they will in good time.

Oh, and the fact they gave a clarification post kind of ensures that they DO have plans for a TES V, and don't want people thinking otherwise.

Well having started a thread wondering if it it was over for TES based on the comment that Todd was reported to say - I was glad there was enough forum activity to initiate a response from Beth to clarify the comment.

I learnt new things from the conversations such as all the domain names being registered for online TES.

It was kinda cool that other gaming sites picked up on the comments and reported it as well - the ones i read all expressing some sadness that it sounded like TES was on ice - that shows some respect for the series and the devs.

You think the next game they'll release will be TES 5? I know they aren't a very prolific company, but it sounds like they might be working on something else as well. That's just how I interpreted it though.

Following some reactions to Todd Howard's QuakeCon appearance, we thought we'd set the record straight on some things brought up regarding the future of The Elder Scrolls. Pete put up a blog post up this afternoon. For your convenience, I've posted it below.

Here it is....

No, you're definitely not :P
I wasn't sure what to believe. I wasn't one of those people thinking that they are never going to release an ES V  but I wasn't sure whether they are working on it now or not. Now I'm fairly sure they are.
