OH HERE'S ONE THAT WILL MAKE LOTS OF PEOPLE MAD AT ME!

I hate multiculturalism. The way I see it, each pocket of civilization should try its best to be itself. If it disapproves of another culture, it should either avoid it or destroy it. If this other culture cares enough about itself, it will either go on the defensive and become massively xenophobic or attempt to eradicate the culture that threatens it.

Yes, I know, I am a monster.

Of course, it would be ideal if everybody would just stay out of one another's business, but that's impossible.

EDIT: Keep in mind that there are more ways to destroy a culture than war. Whether or not war is the chosen method depends on both the attacking and defending culture.

EDIT EDIT: Maybe saying I hate multiculturalism isn't right...I hate the type of multiculturalism that is often proposed; i.e. everybody lives together and 'gets along'. I find it to be very naive.

I approve of this. It would cause so many problems to vanish. Keep all of one culture in Y, all of another in X, etc. Then people could move to a culture that suits them, and there wouldnt be the friction of MC, becuase you wouldnt have all the conflicting cultures mixed together.

Also it would keep the superior cultures for being corrupted by inferior cultures who wont assimilate. Im big on assimiltion, I really dislike alot of things about America, but if I wasin America for whatever reason, I would shut the hell up. Im a guest in that county for the time, if I have issues I can leave.

MC is a failed experiment, only they didnt test the damn thing in a small community, nope just open the floodgates instead.

I label myself a xenophobe, im not sure its right (better than nationalist), I dont have a problem with most other cultures. But letting some foreign culture in (even the good) is a slippery slope, that could lead to the inferior/uncivil ones infecting the civil/superior. I dont mind the inferior ones, aslong as they stay in their country. Sadly its not the case.

I think it's more a case that Webster cocked it up "because he could". For a man so gifted at compiling words, he seemed rather less gifted at forward thinking.

Eh? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah_Webster seems okay to me.

OT: Nothing to confess. Here, anyway.

If I were to build my own civilization, it would look something like this. Only there would be two higher powers above the councils. One a cold, hard, detached voice of reason, the other a compassionate, loving individual. There would be hundreds upon thousands of tests to see if these were their true natures, of course.
Some further matters of my own civilization:
- Class society. Every citizen is born Class A, but crimes and apathy in labour market may drop you to class B where you are not allowed to vote or apply for government jobs. Drop to class C from serious crimes, which means you are locked up and supervised without break until you are reclassified as B. May include forced labor. If a drop from C occurs, like a murderer committing another murder, it's death penalty or expelling from country if a foreigner. Only one drop can be issued at once, shooting someone in the leg during a car theft will drop you only to B, not C.
- Death penalty reserved for Class C drops. Not a public punishment and conducted in great secrecy by Presidential command, it's a tool to get rid of people who by their own actions don't fit to the society (mass murderers, serial killers, pretty much any serial [insert crime]). Constitutional ban on executing people for political reasons.
- Full gender and racial equality, includes female conscription.
- Great emphasis on education. Upper secondary becomes mandatory for everyone. Failure in school and becoming a dropout results in permanent Class B.
- State atheism, or at least France-style very strict secularism.
- Banning far right and far left groups, if any.
- Great increase in state funding of sciences, and especially lifting ethical restrictions from biological studies. Class C convicts can be used for human experimentation, if the goals are honest and true (like cancer/HIV research. Again, on Presidential authorization.

It's delusional, yes, but it's something to keep myself sane. I have spent the last four years molding my ideology and could write a 300-page book about it, just by listing things that would change.

I approve of pretty much all of that.

I dont know if its comparable to your class system, but I dont belive in "rights". Merely privlages society gives people. If you abuse it,then you loose that privlage.
Also agree with forced labour for some people, you may aswell get some good out of some people.

Dont agree with total gender equality however. Apparently the reason women arent allowed in the infantry like men, is becuse some men will risk themselves for the women. Atleast thats what I was tol, if its true, then I agree with it.

How would you handle immigration ?

My civilization would be purely capitalistic. The economy would be based off of supply and demand only. Any government intervention would result in imprisonment for the politician for violating the constitution. Any government intervention would be in the case of when a third party is affected. As you can see, our societies relationship would probably be similiar to the U.S.S.R. and the U.S. It would also be illegal to call people intolorant because the act of calling people intolorant is in fact intolorant. Government aid would be unconstitutional.

I go to a strict Christian, conservative school. I hate it with a passion due to nazi like rules ( being out of chapel uniform will get a free dress day taken away, and a cell phone in a class room results in four days of detention, a girl got expelled for bringing alchohol to a party outside of school, and they punish people for what they right on facebook outside of school). They make stuff they can't back with science, and think dancing is evil. My teachers svck, half of them aren't even certified to teach.

To Americans: Feel free to spell things like that, but please know that you're wrong every time you do it?

Thanks x
Well, the language is called "English" and not "American", so I have to say your argument is invalid.
I will start this off by saying that I am Canadian and I love being pedantic.

The English language is actually a combination of dozens of other languages probably the most notable being Latin. Language is always changing, not only do English speakers speak radically different then we did 800 years ago, but it was very different even 100 years ago. Hello was originally used as a gesture of surprise and not as a greeting, but this changed because language will always evolve and nothing we do will stop this. The vast majority of English speakers speak it as a second language. This means that the language is going to be influenced even more by other languages then it has been before.

A guy I know said that he really hated it when someone told him to chillax, "Why smoosh two words like chill and relax together when they both mean the same thing?", he said. I replied, "You don't like it when people meld words together?" "Not when it doesn't make sense."

Then I asked him why he found no problems with the word meld. Meld is a combination of the words melt and weld and originally meant to appreciate something. Every sentence we say in the English language is both a bastardized and harmonized amalgamation of dozens of other languages and I love it for that.

This very interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OI5uekd517s&feature=player_embedded explains the origins of the English language.

Um leave? If you really hate it you could just go to another school. I've done that five times. It never messed up my education when I moved schools for one reason or another like bullying or moving house. Honestly I don't know your parents but I think almost certainly if you sat down with your parents and discussed with them seriously how much you hate the school you go to they will let you leave and go to another school.

As someone training to be a High School teacher, I'm really taking this comment with a grain of salt. I've learnt school students tend to over-demonise their schools if they dont like them. Rules like detention for phone use are widespread across all schools (and with good bloody reason), and stuff like punishment for misbehaviour outside of school is probably part of the ethics code you agree to in attending that private school. Private schools hold their students to higher standards of conduct than public schools, get over it.

Also, they have every right frankly to pursue people if you are defaming the school on Facebook. A student in the year below me at my old high school was expelled for starting a blog dedicated entirely to bad-mouthing a member of staff they didnt like. its libel, pure and simple.

And "making up stuff thats not backed up by science": I'm assuming you mean religious study? Well guess what, you go to a religious school, you're going to learn religious concepts and beliefs. If you dont like it, leave. Otherwise svck it up sunshine.

Women and men do not need to serve in their same units. Soviet Union-style, there would be all-female units.

Immigration would be similar to that of Finland now, that is accepting only refugees with absolute need, but with a few changes.
- Until citizenship is issued, all immigrants are Class B.
- No monetary assistance. State officials direct the immigrants for labour market. Failure to apply for work in assigned time will result in deportation.
- State provides education, but only if the subject has reported for work.

Environmental policies will stay the same and will go by EU directives. Europe in general has no sins about the environment, it's USA, Russia, China, Brazil and India that are destroying our world.

Minor offenders will be subjected to forced labor penalties, and may or may not be demoted to Class B if there are no past crimes. However, repeating criminals will be treated on the same lines as everyone else - the lower you go the closer the pistol on your neck gets. If a drug dealer again and again gets caught he will be terminated even if he has not directly killed anyone.

Libertarianism, eh? Well, as someone wrote Libertarianism is a nice theory but you can't just pull economic theories out of your ass and expect them to work.
Me, I prefer the good ol' mixed economy and interventionism - the two things that brought Europe from the ruins of World War.

As for religion - well - I am an atheist and I need say no more. You can guess what I think of religion.
Could you post more pls?
- Eugenics: Carriers of inherited diseases will be sterilized. I do not know about mental illnesses, but if they are inherited they meet the same fate. Disabled fetuses are aborted, living disabled will not be oppressed but will live restricted lives (mostly restriction on voting rights).
- Establishment of Ministry of Public Enlightenment, with the mission of through media enforce the spirit of "we are in this together", good human values and generally making people feel better about themselves. The ministry will of course spend a great deal of time to improve public opinion about the State.
- Yearly campaigns to encourage people to live better. One such campaign would be "Healthy Body, Healthy Mind" which encourages overweight people to lose weight and take part in healthy activities. Tabloid journalism will be full of positive examples of accomplished citizens, encouraging more to jump in.
- Eventual ban on alcohol and tobacco. Zero tolerance on all drugs (except medical, of course). The Ministry of Enlightenment will make sure people will want to eat their own vomit rather than enjoy a cigarette.
- Lifting of ethical restrictions on sciences, especially biology. Class C convicts, and "paroled" death penalty convicts will be used for human experimentation if necessary. The fact is, the more we screw ethics the faster we cure diseases. I can sacrifice ten rapists to save a millions of cancer patients.
- Animal rights will be improved, and animal cruelty will be comparable to human assaults and murder. State-controlled animal rights organizations will be founded.
- State funding of youth activities, and emphasis on getting youngsters out and enjoy their lives. The happier they are, the more effective they are.
- Increased powers for police. They will be allowed to take physical action if necessary.
- Related: the Ministry of PE will make TV programs, movies and journalism glorifying the police, firefighters, military etc. to improve public opinion about them.
EDIT:
- Inspired by Japan, absolute constitutional ban on hostile military actions. This will not only benefit our stance in the world if we are ever invaded, but also prevent future governments waging unnecessary wars that only lead to deaths of people for small strips of land.
- Development of a biological deterrence, EMP weapons if they become available in the future. The bigger deterrence less likely for our country to be invaded. Peace at all costs.
- Disestablishment of any autonomous regions, and privileged minorities. Assimilation of all subjects to the core population.
- Extensive state funding of all sciences. The nation shall become a hub of technological advance, and will bring humanity great discoveries in the future.
- Though I have never specified the size and location of my nation, it is usually Finland. However, if we are talking about a massive nation like United States, once total Utopia is achieved we would declare ourselves the Vanguards of Humanity and strive for world domination and bring our magnificent way of life to all the world. That, however, is a whole another story! :D

To name some

It's nice that people take attention. My ideas are often dismissed in real life conversations.
Is there any way to redeem oneself to Class B or Class A?

What about being framed or falsely accused?
I have not specified time but it will take a year or two to redeem oneself. Depends on the offense. In the past I had planned for classes like A+ and B-, but that's just too much bureaucracy.
Of course, a killer will never be able to redeem himself. He is in permanent class C. Same goes for other serious crimes. Even if you were drunk at the time you may have ended someone's life or ruined it, which makes you Incompatible With The Society (capital letters because that would be the official term)

Framed and falsely accused will obviously be acquitted and restored if if there is evidence of their innocence. Criminal investigation will go on like it has always gone, the punishments are the things that are changing here.

You only say that because you're religious yourself. If it's like what it was in my school, it's not restricted to religious studies (in our case it was called religion, because you only learn about the catholic religion and you can't write down your opinion on anything in the exam i.e. indoctrination) but also to other areas. For example, you HAD to attend mass. What the heck? Something so personal as religion and you're forced to attend mass?

Needless to say I spent many a Friday afternoons in the toilet doing my homework or eating. Yes...eating.

It seems a bit of a faux pas to go to a school where you disagree with the staff and the curriculums views.

They are very interesting concepts.

The only problem I can see with it is that corruption is extremely hard to stop in any society where currency can be gotten through crime.

My personal view on distribution of currency is somewhat similar to Communism, only with wages being based on the qualifications required to recieve said job (for example, a CEO will still be payed more than a dock worker, however, this wage will be regulated by the government instead of the CEO), all money would have to be registered with the government via serial numbers, and it's exchange regulated by government bodies. I haven't put as much thought into it as you though.

Another question, what would be the penalty for manslaughter via incompetence? ie. doctors that grossly misdiagnose patients, would they be downgradded or just banne from medicine?

It's not like I had a choice. You go where your parents send you when you're young. Also, this is Malta, a 98% catholic country.

The 'go to another school' doesn't really hold, not unless you have a lot of choice. Which I didn't. Besides, the other teachers were great. It's not that big of a deal, but it was still bothersome and it certainly shows that people try and force religion unto others - it's not left as a choice.

My science teacher in 6th form is still one of my favourite teachers, and through facebook messages he admitted of not being religious, but he wouldn't be able to say that in school because he'd lose his job.

This thread makes me grit my teeth.

My confession - I can't stand most of you. A bunch of stuck up white kids from suburbia who speak on things they know nothing about and base their ideals on stereotypes. Most of you make me sick because I know people like you are what's running my country. Everything you know about people like me, you get from television. And that makes people like me the bad guy.

Well, say goodnight to the badguy. (I couldn't resist)

If you don't have a choice then that's different, but seeing as nilecroc hasn't responded it's hard to know what his situation is.

Besides, I know my views are flawed, and probably would be totalitarian. But they are purely speculation and I probably wouldn't actually try and introduce them if I was in power.

Eugenics: Carriers of inherited diseases will be sterilized

Well, I'm sure that is against human rights. But there should be organizations that "care" for people with inherited diseases.

Animal rights will be improved, and animal cruelty will be comparable to human assaults and murder. State-controlled animal rights organizations will be founded.

I can't agree on that. I don't see why that should be necessary in any way.

Lifting of ethical restrictions on sciences, especially biology. Class C convicts, and "paroled" death penalty convicts will be used for human experimentation if necessary. The fact is, the more we screw ethics the faster we cure diseases. I can sacrifice ten rapists to save a millions of cancer patients.

If you mean "will be used for human experimentation", I would only allow it if it is really necessary and only if he/her stay unharmed. But I would of course allow scientists to study on stem cells.

Eventual ban on alcohol and tobacco. Zero tolerance on all drugs (except medical, of course). The Ministry of Enlightenment will make sure people will want to eat their own vomit rather than enjoy a cigarette.

I would raise the taxes for alcohol & tobacco (if it contains more than a certain percentage of alcohol, I mean wine should be okay). The problem is the people would just buy it somewhere else and when my country can make money (taxes) out of it, it benefits all.

Do you know the story of the prince who wanted to make everyone happy and increase the happiness for the biggest group of people?

You only say that because you're religious yourself. If it's like what it was in my school, it's not restricted to religious studies (in our case it was called religion, because you only learn about the catholic religion and you can't write down your opinion on anything in the exam i.e. indoctrination) but also to other areas. For example, you HAD to attend mass. What the heck? Something so personal as religion and you're forced to attend mass?

Needless to say I spent many a Friday afternoons in the toilet doing my homework or eating. Yes...eating.

I say that because I've had to put up with crap from people who willing send their child to a religious school, then proceed to complain when their child recieves a religious education. I've had to deal with rubbish like claims of "indoctrination" and "forcing religioun down children's throats" from morons who obviously didnt stop to think about the implications of what they were doing. Its the equivalent of me going into a KFC for lunch and complaining they sell chicken. its completely ludicrous and idiotic. If you as a child were so anti-religious that you couldn't stand being in that school, then you should've made the effort then to convince your parents to change your school or at least engage in dialogue with the school over ciriculum concerns.. Dont come out of it claiming the "evil" catholics brainwashed poor little TESFanner.

Also if you want to know why Christian groups try to teach children about Christianity, I suggest you go look up the Great Commission for some understanding.
