Console is disabled for Survival?

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2016 5:00 am

So apparently a feature of the new Survival mode disables the console. Bethesda, you seriously need to rethink this. One of the reasons that I'm a PC gamer is the fact that I have access to tools like the debugging console. There are MANY of us who use the console to work around the (frequent and numerous) bugs in your game, and not to give ourselves any kind of advantage at all.

I can't even tell you how many times I've gotten stuck on some texture in the world map, and been unable to move. The only way out is to toggle collision, short of reloading an old save. I can't tell you how many times my companions and other NPCs have mysteriously disappeared, and could only be located through the console. Many of us have had to use the console to move through bugged quests that wouldn't advance. This isn't giving us an advantage. It's utilization of a tool that we've paid for to get around a bug in the game that you sold us.

This is not a 'feature' of Survival mode. It's an unnecessary annoyance. This is a single player role playing game. If someone wants to use the console to exploit their way through Survival mode, it's up to them. Personally I only want it for the sake of making the game work as it's intended to. You really need to rethink this decision.

For now I've opted out of the beta. If you don't change this, I'll just wait for the modders to correct this poor decision.

Thoughts?

it's probably for the beta so they can get as accurate results as possible.

Here is a thought.

You should remove that fourth option because it`s gonna make many players look silly.

If it's hard-coded, then it's questionable how much modders can do about it. Unlike some strange beliefs around here, mods aren't almighty.

Yes, disable it. It'll make sure that all of those people, whining about how it needs to be super difficult, cannot "cheat" their way to victory.

That should keep them occupied and stop spamming up the forums with nonsense.

Having console commands will undermine the system. I'm starving! player_additem (food number) 1 Much better!

I don't want it for exploits. I want it to make the game work properly. If someone wants to exploit their way through survival mode, that's on them. Don't take away the tools that make the game work properly for the sake of preventing these people from exploiting their way through a single player game.

No, it's not just for the beta. It's a feature of the mode, as confirmed https://community.bethesda.net/thread/2952?start=0&tstart=0

I think it's needed. A lot of console players think that the debugging console should be disabled for PC players altogether. I'm not interested in the people who want to vote no just for those reasons. I'm only interested in the thoughts specifically as it pertains to survival mode.

Personally I think disabling console for survival mode can be a good idea.

1. It`s good for beta testing purpose.

2. It may lead to more in-depth game discussion if we are 100% sure nobody is using console.

but I voted... Don`t care. lol .. because I really do not.

I hope the console comes back for PC players once Beta is over.

I certainly hope not. Without the debugging console, both of my two characters would have had to essentially be scrapped halfway through the main quest because of game breaking bugs. This game is full of bugs, and Bethesda needs to stop pretending that it isn't.

Disabling manual saves is bad enough, but I was willing to accept that as long as I had the console to work around the bugs that I encounter.

I was already 'that guy' in my original post.

I play heavily modded Fallout 4 on PC. One of the mods I use is Precise Object Moving and Rotation which uses the console. I've grown accustomed to using the mod since I tend to build unusual settlement homes or place various objects in unusual positions.

That said, not having access to the console in Survival Mode wouldn't bother me. I'd still be able to fulfill quest objectives without it and due to frequent, manual saving regime not having the console would still allow me to overcome the minor bugs I've experienced.

It won't matter if it's hard coded I don't think, in that case we'll just get a mod that emulates survival without us needing to select survival in the difficulty screen thus working around the issue.

I'm a console player. Didn't bother voting cause I don't have access to this feature and I don't care. Survival will be just what I want it to be. If anything not needing cheat mode just shows how much more hardcoe we are :P

but anyway I wanted to address the bugs people are talking about. I have put a lot of hours into FO4. And I'm not saying they don't exist, but I have never been stuck once or had one quest limiting bug. The most common bug I experienced was the teleporting while aiming which was awesome and I'm sad to see go.

On the new forums there has also been a very vocal contingent complaining about losing console commands because of bugs. I guess I just don't sympathize well with that because I've experienced essentially zero bad bugs.

Question: you're playing survival with console commands. You haven't saved in 2 hrs and are about to die of starvation with no food remaining. Are you really willing to accept that death when you could just use console commands?

This affects all kinds of stuff. Want to use the console to get rid of those annoying corpses that never despawn from your settlements? Out of luck.

Want to toggle the free camera to get some great screenshots? Nope.

Want to toggle TCL to make settlement building easier? Nope.

I've been looking forward to starting a new survival character ever since this mode was announced. And now I don't know if I even want to bother. You ruined my day, Bethesda.

I don't think that's the question I would ask someone who managed to get himself in a situation like that.

I have 600hrs on my PC version and have seen only one bug so far which required me to reload a save.

I honestly think all these command complainers aren't using it for debugging purposes. That or they have mods affecting the game and have to use the console to correct the mod issues.

I say disable it since for the most part it is not needed at all.

I'm absolutely willing to accept that death. That's my mistake, it's not an issue with the game. I want survival mode to inconvenience the hell out of my character. I don't want it to inconvenience me as a player. I want to play Survival mode because I WANT that challenge. I'm not playing it for bragging rights or a trophy or anything like that. I want a grueling difficult game experience that forces me to use real strategy and planning, and forces me to play in ways that I might not want to play. But I don't want it to result in me losing an hour of progress because I got stuck on some texture somewhere on the map and couldn't get out of it.

If this game were 100% glitch free and Bethesda can promise no quest will ever bug out, we'll never get stuck in world geometry, or we will never input custom settings again, then I'm fine without the console. Now back to reality.....we HAVE to have it.

No saving/autosave, no fast travel, no console, and no mods.

I'm beggining to wonder if Bethesda is trolling its fans. "Here you big crybabies! Here's your damn hardcoe mode you wanted and loved so much!"

Experiences vary wildly. You might have only experienced one bug. I've experienced dozens, of not 100+. I can't even tell you how many times I've had to use the console or reload a save to fix a bug. I don't use it for exploits or to give myself any kind of advantage. I have a level 130+ character and I used the console to give myself 500 shipments of each crafting material because I'd already done basically everything there was to do in the game and I just wanted to be able to do a ton of building. That is the only time in 700+ hours in this game that I've used the console to give myself an advantage, and that was only because I had already done everything and just wanted to play with really large scale settlement building.

I think mods are only disabled during the beta for testing purposes. If mods are disabled altogether for survival mode, then I'm never even going to bother with it. I'll just get a mod that does survival mode in a more reasonable way after the GECK comes out.

Oh okay - that svcks. I'm a console player so I don't have a stake in this (it's fairly petty to want to deny PC users console commands just because we don't have access to them), but I'm guessing this means PS/XB mods will be disabled in survival mode too, which is definitely a turn off.
