How else would they have gotten the job?

Are Mods Nerds?
I think anyone who posts on a gaming forum can be classified as a nerd.

Hello! I'm posting this on a few different forums because I'm interested in studying how members interact with the forum staff on different sites. If you would please answer a few simple questions for me, I would be very grateful.

In general, do you like the Moderators here? Yes. Yes I do!

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life? Yes, I have met several current and former mods, spoken with a couple.

Would you like to have more or less contact with them? I'd like to meet them, definitely. Better yet, I'd like to have a few beers with them!

Anything else you wish to add? I like green skittles.

Apologies in advance if any of this is against forum rules.

Generally questioning our parentage, species, gender preference and giving specific directions on where to go and what we should do once we get there should usually be avoided as well.
So are you or are you not a cat?

In general, do you like the Moderators here? Yep, I truly do.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life? I've spoken with one outside of the forums, but I've never met any in person.

Would you like to have more or less contact with them? Well, I'd like to make dinner for them, so I guess that would count as "more contact", yeah. But really, any excuse to try these recipes I keep collecting.

Anything else you wish to add? Manchego is my favorite cheese, followed by Tintern.

Manchego is my favorite cheese, followed by Tintern.

I'll take some sliced up manchego any day, with a good Rioja or Ribera del duero - that is a meal in itself. :foodndrink:

It could also be considered a paraphrased, re-worked quote by Arnaud Amalric. But that is off-limits.

One thing that can be said though, is that the moderators here seem a lot more approachable and friendly than at most other places. Less elitst about their responsibilities and priviledges.
Bah! Moderation is so over the top strict in anything religion related that people now censor themselves when they want to post an 800 years old quote, even in a context that has barely anything to do with religion whatsoever. And they say that there's nothing wrong with this forum?

Posting the quote anyway in the interest of those that have no idea what we're talking about:

I will once again say that these people aren't someone you can be friends with. Once that status is acquired..just forget about it. I'm going to be nice and not prove my point.

It requires a high skill in Moderation. You can hire one of us to train you for 500 internets per lesson.

I know this isn't an "Ask the Moderators" forum, but I've been wondering:

Can you guys make threads disappear? I assume you can, as you can make individual posts disappear. Just wondering if you had that capability and if you ever use it. Guess I figure it a thread is bad enough you would opt to get rid of it entirely as opposed to just locking it. Everyone has seen how visible, locked threads can "fuel the fire" of the OP, who then sometimes reposts it again and such.

Anyway, been wondering about that.

I've seen threads disappear, though it's possible they were moved to the mod/admin forum rather than deleted.

If it's the same as when I was mod, they can move them or set invisible but not delete.

I suppose setting them to invisible would be the closest to deleting. Can't imagine they would want to look at them in the mod/admin forum, and don't see how moving them would do any good.

Thanks for the answers!

Yes. We have a few ways to get rid of threads - delete them, move them to the Trash forum, or set them invisible. What gets removed can be anything from accidental double-posts to porm.

This is interesting to me. What purpose does the Trash forum serve? Why would you put a thread there as opposed to just deleting it outright? I'll venture a guess that it's for future reference. As a holding place for evidence in case you ban a player and have to justify it.

In the past that's whenever we would delete something, it would go automatically to the trash forum.

After the recent change to the forum layout, there are a couple of different ways to delete, but we are still accustomed to using our trash forum.

Yes, we have to log all our moderator actions in the admin forum, well with the exception of simple things like locks and moves, so if we need to refer back to a deleted post, other mods need to look at it or admin have to see it for whatever reason then it is there as reference.

The Trash forum was my idea, it's to keep track of threads that have become problematic, to see if there becomes a pattern in Users or IP's. That was before they had the warning windows.

Good thinking. I thought that might have been the purpose: to keep an eye out for patterns and keep an archive of evidence in case it is needed to build a case against problem members.
