Cutie Mark Crusaders and You

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 3:31 pm

Hello! I'm posting this on a few different forums because I'm interested in studying how members interact with the forum staff on different sites. If you would please answer a few simple questions for me, I would be very grateful.

In general, do you like the Moderators here?

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?

Would you like to have more or less contact with them?

Anything else you wish to add?

Apologies in advance if any of this is against forum rules.

I think the moderators here are the finest people on the planet.

I have met three of them personally (I'm very close to one of them), although two are no longer moderators.

I think the amount of contact we have now is just about right.

Curious to see how this will pan out.

It may be considered against forum rules in the sense, "we don't allow discussion of moderators actions in public", which this post is likely to draw out.

But, it may be a "special case", if it's for study purposes, and people can keep within the topic, without bringing up past actions.

I for one have had an issue with one mod. (No specifics obviously.) I reconsidered after some cool down time and actually apologized to said mod later for being a weenie.

Then, on the other hand, I have several mods on my friends list. It's a short list. (We were friends before they were mods.)

I do like the mods here. They do a bang up job.

I do not know any personally outside the forums.

My contact level is just right. We PM each other from time to time. I report things needing reporting.

The mods are the reason this is a great place to visit. They clean up the filth, spammers, asshats and just make it a pleasant place to be. Not all, heck, not many boards are nearly as good.

Keep up the good work folks!

P.S.

Woah, Yas, you are moderator no more?

I like the mods a lot on this site. They seem to have chilled in the last couple of years. It was much stricter when I first joined.

Pretty much this. I'm not close to any, nor do I know any personally or PM'd any.

I've gotten a warning PM once about desisting lest I get an actual warning and looking back on it, I deserved it. One of the reasons I like the mods here: they seems fair to me and they keep the [censored] I see on other forums to a minimum.

Yes

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?

No, no

Would you like to have more or less contact with them?

They show an acceptable amount of contact in the forums proper as well as having an open door policy regarding personal messaging.

Anything else you wish to add?

By far the nicest and friendliest mods I have come across.

Hold on, since when were you not a mod? I leave for six months and the cow leaves!

As far as your questions go:

In general, do you like the Moderators here?

Yes. They're well chosen, they professional, they have a sense of humour and, most important of all, they're fair.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?

Nope. Although I did see a bear once...

Would you like to have more or less contact with them?

I think it's fine how it is. You hear from them if you stray from the path, that's always a given. You contact them with reports etc to help keep spam to a minimum. Whenever I've had a query, I've been able to PM a mod and usually within the hour I'll get a reply (depending on whether said mod is online or not...try to pick one that is unless it's relevant to a certain moderator). You also see them post in standard threads...this makes them seem more real, and less like a spam filter. Them posting in threads gives you an insight into them a bit (for instance, Rohugh posts quite a bit in the Post Your Desktop thread, with some epic backgrounds!) but it can also get a thread back on track when it's close to derailing. Now and then there will be a warning, but often just knowing a mod is watching the thread, even for personal interest, can make the spammers stop and reconsider.

In general, do you like the Moderators here? Not that I dislike them personally, I dislike the style of moderation.. I don't support it one bit. It seems slightly more lax lately and I give them credit for that, but one look at the re-copy/paste/pinned annual threat topic called "Community Discussion" is a pretty constant reminder of why I dislike the style which stems from admins and trickles down. There's a couple mods at one point I had a high distaste for but they are no longer mods.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life? Have met people from the forums but not a moderator, no real reason to.

Would you like to have more or less contact with them? Less, much less, but we know that's not going to happen. I'd prefer contact with them as a normal poster than as a moderator.

I hate the moderators. They oppress our right to post porm links and call people obsenities. They abuse their power and ban people for no reason! DOWN WITH THE FACIST NAZI COMMUNIST (Insert any other 'offensive' regime name) CATS AND LET'S BE FREE OF THEIR REIGN OF TERROR!!!!!

But seriously, they hold a tight grip on the reigns, but it's important if you wish to maintain order. I've never had a problem with them personally.

I enjoy the moderators here, I don't know any personally but getting to know them and the others around here has been enjoyable. They do a good job of keeping the place clean and fun by weeding out the bad eggs. I've been too a ton of forums and all but here and one other place were rather messy.

The less contact I have the better. It means I'm staying out of trouble :P

The moderators here are really great (and not one of them is holding a banhammer to my head to make me say that ). They aren't just moderators either they are a part of the community.

Q: In general, do you like the Moderators here?
A: Yes, definitely.

Q: Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?
A: No, that possibility is one in a bazillion.

Q: Would you like to have more or less contact with them?
A: Umm, I don't understand the question... Contact with them happens when needed. Otherwise they are just like any other members here.

Q: Anything else you wish to add?
A: Absolutely terrible questions all-in-all.

They manage quite well to stop spamming or trolling.
I have seen worse forums than this.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?

Nope. But It would be interesting if the mods already met each other in real life. I don't really have a desire to meet them.

Would you like to have more or less contact with them?

It's fine the way it is. Although I'm still waiting for a reply for a closed topic.

Like Third Eye, it's not so much the mods themselves as the rules in general that I have issues with. Though on occasion I also put the blame with the moderators, especially with the preventive locking that happened a lot not so long ago, because a subject 'might perhaps possibly in the near future give rise to discussion of religion and politics'. Doesn't seem to happen much any more though, so I suppose that's good. I still remember mods being more tolerant when I first joined. As for the actual questions:

In general, do you like the Moderators here?
There's a few that I like, a few that I don't really care about, one whom I dislike and one other whom I dislike strongly. There used to be one I really hated, but he left. Some of my favourites stopped frequently visiting the forums years ago, but I really like some of the new ones, so that balances things out a bit. Generally speaking I guess I like the moderators.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?
No

Would you like to have more or less contact with them?
Fine as it is.

Anything else you wish to add?
Nope.

Yes I like the mods of this forum.

No I haven't met any of them in person.

The level of mod interaction with the forum is good.

As I've said in the past, this forums has the best moderators I've seen, and they're a big part of why I come back here. This forum is a lot more mature than 99% of others on the Internet, and I think we owe that directly to the mods here. There are a very few rules that I don't necessarily agree with, but in general I think this is probably the least chaotic forum I've seen, and that's a good thing.

In general? Yes. I like some more than others, but that has nothing to do with them being moderators.

Do you know any of them personally? Have you met any in real life?
Nope. I know a couple better than I know others, but have never met.
Would you like to have more or less contact with them?
Right now is about right. I suppose more would be good if we were just hanging out.

Yes, I like the moderators here. I think they do a good job of keeping the place in order, plus I've seen what happens on http://forums.studyisland.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=55

Do I know any moderators personally? No.

And I think the current amount of moderator interaction is good.

Yes i think the moderators are good on this forum, im on way to many forums and the highest percentage of them are either never there, or only appear when the forum/company/product is being criticised and then its to basically threaten or simply ban someone, here i can say something about bethesda and unless it defamatory or libel i never get any greif, and you actually see them which again is rare.

No ive never met them, either in real life because, from what i can gather none of them live where i live, nor have they ever pm'ed me for any reason.

The interaction ive seen so far has been pretty fair, other than when they post themselves, its difficult to get fair minded mods.

Ive been a mod on 10 chat channels and one forum and ive been a mod on one chat channel now for 12 years, and i have little tolerance for lazy mods and thats about the highest the percentage of all the games company forums.

Snip.

You're a mod in disguise, aren't you? :hehe:

They're okay. Never met them. I'd have a beer with them. I don't know why anyone would want more contact with them but. . .okay. Sure.
