I just bought this game so I'm no expert in the mechanics and I haven't even played a PvP, but I have noticed that ripostes and backstabs are dramatic and a bit slow, so maybe to in exchange for the lack on invincibility, they would make the animation a bit faster.

The backstab seems to be slower in Dark Souls 2, as the animation is now a series of slow attacks, rather than the usual 1 or 2 attacks.

Finally got around to picking up Artorias of the Abyss today. when is a good spot in the story to jump in? I know there's a slightly different cut scene with Sif if you do something in AotA first, but other than that I know nothing of the inner details of the expansion save for a few boss names that get thrown around on here and that oolacile is involved, and would like to keep it that way

my current sl65 dex based daughter of chaos has placed the lordvessel but hasn't taken out any of the lords yet. would that be a good time to head to the expansion for a bit? would it be a good idea to learn the rite of kindling before going in?

The first boss isn't too hard, just takes a bit to learn him. Then you can explore for awhile.
It gets more difficult, but 65 isn't too low although you might be at a bit of disadvantage since it's your first time.

Most of the PVP/Co-Op in the expansions happens at 90+

The DLC is great, so enjoy!

Thanks, I'll give it a whirl, I kind of miss the challenge of seeing something for the first time like my first playthrough so it should be refreshing to get beaten down a few times again!

I don't really do PvP anyway so it's more for exploring and adding to the story.

My Gravelord Servant was quite the busy and productive person today

• Killed Nito in 1 go ([censored], he was too easy!)
• Defeated all of Ooacile's bosses, but didn't cut off Kalameet's tail ([censored] THAT [censored]!)
• Killed Sif then the Four Kings
• and is currently on his way to get through the HOLY [censored] THE CRYSTAL CAVERNS IS WORSE THAN THE TOMB OF THE GIANTS and kill that blind bastard dargon, Seathe
• Darkened Anor Lando and killed Gwyindoline.

I was waiting in the Forest today to be summoned, or be invaded.... Finally, after about 30 minutes, I get summoned and we head to directly for Sif.
"Cool" I thought, "I've never done co-op on Sif before."

On the final bridge I walk off the edge and die.
