Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #24

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 11:00 pm

The dawnguard plot has been revealed. Saw this on reddit. Fits with my original idea very much, so THIS is most likely legit:

After getting an arrow in the knee, the Dovahkiin is forced into becoming a guard in Dawnstar. Now he has to deal with sweet roll thefts, petty thievery and drunken brawls, and a steadily increasing amount of lollygaggin'. And the worst of it? While he's on guard duty, his cousin is out there ... fighting dragons.
New features include:
  • NPC's will randomly start lollygaggin'. It's up to you to stop them.
  • Redguards gain an intimidating new power: They can make enemies run in horror by drawing their curved swords. Curved. Swords.
  • Recruit new forces to the city watch by shooting adventurers in the knee.

But he would never get involved in the affairs of a foreign country.....on another planet.
He might recruit the Dovahkin to fight the Thalmor, who have a dastardly plan to set up a central bank that issues paper currency to replace the Septim gold standard....................

no offense but i believe you may be color blind as to me they appear to be a very light orange color almost white but the orange is quite apparant. but regardless they look rather sinister possibly the dovahkiin becomes a servant of mehrunes dagon to help him with a urgent issue in the deadlands. but the eyes seem to have some oddly structured patterns in the irises maybe its the work of psijjic magic... or a tonal architect of the dwemer....
Yeah, and the Dovahkin will have to go on a glorious quest to retrieve the Aedra Contact Lenses......

And plus people keep saying the Falmer's eyes glow. Aside from the fact the Falmer are blind, I do not recall the eyes glowing at all.

IMHO, I think it has something to do with more lyncthropy like Werebears, Weresharks, Werecrocodiles, Weredeadroths, Werevultures. Werelions, and Wereboars.

Is anyone but me worried about the the direction of this DLC speculation? I for one would be greatly dissapointed if 'Dawnguard' or whatever it be, winds up being a mere questline akin to the Knights of The Nine. I'm sure it would be grist for the lore fans if it involved a yellow-eyed were-vampire revenant of the Dwemer, with whom the Dragonborn must ally to defeat the snow-elves, or the Thalmor, or vice-versa, whilst riding a dragon in association with one of the established guilds, or not... For myself, I'd happily pay Beth a couple of tens for a hundred extra acres of world and a dozen new NPC's... I wouldn't waste my beer money on some rotten new questline/narrative however.
It's not that I'm dead against drama and myth... it's just i can get that at my local bookshop. TES has always provided worlds to explore, not cheap scripted Biowaresque drama... please let it remain so.

Guys why would the DB be a Vamp in a Promo Poster? next to no significant information can be gleamed from that aside from one He aged, two his eyes are glowing, three he uses arrows now. and of course the name of the Expansion pack(Thats wishful thinking ;p)DLC is called Dawnguard.

Vamp eyes don't glow in Skyrim, DB wouldn't be Vamp because not everyone is a Vamp with their DB's no? Being a Nord is a given so don't comeatmebro ;D.

Says who my Dunmer eyes were just plain red when I started my playthrough now they glow when light cast on them. People even comment on my eyes. Sure they dont glow on the level of a skeleton or draugr, but they do standout more than usual. You know what I'll show a pic give me a few minutes.

Dragonborn's eyes glow the same color as Dawnbreaker. The light in the background is Meridia's Beacon. Dragonborn is possessed by or becomes Meridia, in much the same way that Shivering Isles brought together Sheogorath and the Hero of Kvatch.

hmm i havent really heard of the vampire thing being a big part of the dlc (aside from the new feeding animations), and im pretty sure that i saw the elderscrolls user on twitter say something about it including snow elves (though judging by those animation files being revealed we kinda knew something like that would happen).

heres my idea if anyone cares....

Meridia (from the dawn part, inspired from previous posts on the unofficial DLC thread) forces the Dovahkiin to go stop the Snow elves who are trying to ressurrect the snow prince (probably in Solstheim, due to the fact that that is where he was buried).

Why? because she mentions her absolute hatred for the undead (also in the snow prince book in game he seemed pretty strong, maybe strong enough to pose a threat to someone if ever fully ressurrected, though he was killed by a girl....) and if i recall correctly there was an animation file for the snow princes "ascension" where to my knowledge ascension is typically used when returning to the realm of the dead or to a higher plane of being, hence the ressurection part, so maybe he gets partially ressurrected and you have to fight him, or fully ressurrected and still have to fight him (with a little dialogue before the battle, idea from the talking snow prince files).
Also why not the falmer instead of the snow elves? The falmer were basically transformed into what they are now due to the influence of the dwemer, from a quick look at the Solstheim map i cant see a dwemer ruin (though i havent actually looked into it really), and the snow elves on solstheim may not have been enslaved and changed due to the lack of dwemer in their general region (as they wouldnt have been able to make easy direct contact them).
In this case i also dont think we will be getting spears, sure he used one in his last battle, but even im morrowind you could loot the spear, so there would be an easy way of explaining the lack of spears in this DLC and include them in the next ones, just as more incentive to buy it (dont get me wrong i love and really want spears too)...

although there have been alot of good arguments for the whole vampires thing too, which is making me kind of unsure about the theory above...

"Dawnguard.

Hmm, looking at that image of the Dovahkiin with light coming from behind his eyes I must admit my thoughts turned to Meridia the Daedra that provides you with Dawnbreaker.
Meridia hates undead and wants to eliminate them and one thing you can say about Skyrim right now is that its crawling with a TON of undead.

It really makes me wonder if the Dawnguard are related to this Daedra and hunting down Dragur, Skeletons, Vampires, Wraiths and other nasty undead we always seem to come across" (thread 23, post 182)

i think this would be a great addition, with stronger undead to worry about, and skeliton dragons, and WRATH dragons, and UNDYING dragons (you cant kill them directly, because they feed on the undead energy around them, so you have to kill the minions to kill it)

and then of corse, the doombringer himself in litch form as one of the final bosses for this epic quest chain (with a legion of blades, and the armies of every jarl, stormcloakcs and empire cominging together just to stop him, and your job in this epic battle is to take out the dragon priests reserecting hiom and detroy the focal crystals keeping the doombringer litch alive) [and you also have to gain blessings from every deadra for your army to last long enough to defeat him]

an epic final battle for all of life in tamrial to survive

Since I've had little better to do, I've been thinking about Dawnguard.

Tamriel translates into 'Dawns Beauty' in Aldmeri. I hope we're all aware what guard means. For this reason, I think it'll be adding an elite, Blade-like faction dedicated to guarding Tamriel from all threats - such as the Thalmor. It would encompass all combat-oriented classes, and have a headquarters hidden in the mountains and guarded by all manner of creatures, so that only the worth may gain access.

Wow... That is the best Idea I've heard yet. I really like that! I would be so pumped if that were true and we could take down the Thalmor.

But wouldn't they have showed up for Alduin? lol

Can anybody make a comparision of werewolf's, vampire's, dremora's and...umaril's eyes(or any other out-of-this world guys)? IMO his eyes are very similar to dremoras/dark seducers/golden saints - not saying he's one of them but it may be daedric in nature. Maybe it will allow him to see at all in that "DAWN LAND".

I have that strange feeling that Falmer are connected somehow with Meridia. They were after Eye of Magnus(who is connected closely with Meridia). Meridia also pacted with Ancient Elves(e.g. Ayleids). And she's de facto a solar goddess(famous Meridia's Beacon quest).

JUST MY PERSONAL THEORY :The Falmers(a group of them) might pacted with Meridia and gainted an entrance in her realm(in fact one of MANY belonging to her) nad live and prosper there(similar to SI ancient civ.). And now the DARKNESS ARAISES! teehee

I also remeber something about 2 groups of Falmer fighting each other? Maybe in that Dwemer Museum Falmer infested Ruins.

Also, a bit OFFTOP, where are Falmer Ruins? They couldn't be utterly destroyed.

Also(eh:P) what deities do Falmer worship? There's a Temple and Altar of Xrib near Sightless Pit. The altar and temple are Dwemer in origin.
Altar and M.Shrineare probably located on "EAST-WEST Sun axis"(Needs confirmation)

I have also noticed a cycle:
In Morrowind: "On Oblivion" is released, with the only known mention of Jyggalag(he appeared in the major DLC of Oblivion(next installment)
In Oblivion : "The Doors of Oblivion" is released, with some mentions of rare Daedric Realms Portals. IT MAY mention a Dawnguard info (major DLC of next installment)

there is a fragment: "...Some are pure legend, or at any rate, not traceable based on the information left behind. There are references in lore to Marukh's Abyss, the Corryngton Mirror, the Mantellan Crux, the Crossroads, the Mouth, a riddle of an alchemical formula called Jacinth and Rising Sun, and many other places and objects that are said to be Doors, but we could not find."

Mantellan Crux is over, Marukh...rather not Skyrim. Crossroads, Mirror - it could be anything, Mouth - it could be the Throat of the World, and Jacinth and Rising Sun, (a mixture of Orc's Blood and Amber). And rising sun is obviously related to Dawn. I'm not saying that this mixture or part of it (amber???) are the portal itself, they may be just only few of many requirements.

So post your opinions:D I hope I helped.

EDIT: I reposted this(page 5. #23) because nobody replied and I think my post is worth noticing:D

Bethesda i would pay £40 for a buff on vampires, let's be honest right now compared to were-wolves they svck, i want the ability to turn into a flying vampire lord once a week, I'd pay good money for that xD

Maybe meridia gives the falmer sight in exchange for the falmer promising to wipe out vampires?
Maybe Meridia ressurects the snow prince, -as living living not living dead- in promise that the new falmer will destroy nords (in skyrim most common undead are draugr - ancient nords-

Falmer live in the depths of blackreach, their homes have either been taken by nords to build cities or left and forgotten by time

hmm i just searched the uesp wiki and they dont have a page on the snow elves, and in "fall of the snow prince" it didnt say anything about them being exterminated, but some of them did flee.... i hope for the sake of my theory that some are still around somewhere, maybe underground...?

until recently we thought every snow elf was killed, but modern research (skyrim modern) points to snow elves eating magic mario mushrooms and turning blind and spiteful i.e Falmer

i really wanna play as a snow elf... >.< never gonna happen but my life would be complete once i play as a snowy prince xD

Why thank you! :) I doubt we'd be able to bring down the entire Aldmeri Dominion, but we'd be able to make their lives miserable, perhaps besiege the Embassy. Maybe even drive them from the Province.
And yes, it does contradict with game events. Perhaps they weren't aware that it was Alduin himself, and simply fight dragons? The Thalmor thing also wouldn't work if you've won the Civil War for the Stormcloaks. So perhaps my speculation isn't correct ...

Another thing I'd like to see is a Ranger's guild. We have guilds for mages, warriors, thieves - why not archers? I also note that the guy in the picture has arrows on his back ... ;)

I would never.. in my gaming lifetime... pay 40 for a buff. I hear the distant horse armor chinking already.
....................
On another note, while we may see new things for vampires, I sincerely doubt this expansion's main addition is vampires or vampire related simply because half or more of the Skyrim player base... don't play as vampire.

Now for some bizarre speculation : Why is Dawnbreaker called Dawnbreaker? Wouldn't Dawnbreak be a more appropriate name given it's effects? What if Meridia's purpose is not to 'bring the break of dawn' as it were, by destroying the undead, but to break the Dawn, i.e. return to outside of/before the convention of the wheel? There is evidence she is Anuic in nature unlike the other Daedra, and is one of the Magna Re, denied the passage that formed the stars, and left to create her own plane(t)s [sphere obscured to mortals, closer to Aetherius/the stars torn by her brothers and sisters?] Why does she hate undead? Goodness of her heart? Or petty revenge on the co-conspirators who got her escape thwarted? Maybe she wants out, and the last Dragonborn could be just the avatar/replacement/mantler (CoC and Sheo give a sort of precedent) she needs to join the Magna Re and possibly the Dwemer, in escaping the wound coils.
