Dawnguard and Future DLC Discussion - Thread #31

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:32 pm

Werewolves and Vampires have been part of story telling of my entire life...All 150 years of it. It will always be a part of it. Just like Dragons have been. They have been culture influenced..."since, for ever."

I am not a fan of this kiddy craze of recent films. I have yet to see one and I never will. There will always be Dracula and Barnabas Collins. You can't deny that classis stuff. But this "sparkle" mess is right up there with Rainbow Bright, Strawberry Shortcake and Barbie.

I was initially excited about Werewolves in Skyrim, but was disappointed in how the were done, or lack here of. I admit, I didn't like being forced into being one in order to continue a main questline with a guild. That stuff should remain outside of the main guilds, or at least be a choice. Thus making it content for strong sidequests or DLC.

Even if DLC, it should will contain a ton of stuff and questlines for everyone.

While I am excited for the dlc I still have my reservations. I like vampires and werewolves and would love to see some game play and story expansions on them, but I just cant get past the look of the vampire lord form the gamejam video. I like the idea but it just looks too weird to me. The main thing about them, for me, is the wings. they just look too cartoony and dumb to me. Also I know you cant judge the entire concept just by that video but I really hope we don't have to be naked as a vampire lord.

So I guess remove the wings and let us wear something over our hideously deformed undead vampire body then Ill be good with it. Also If we are forced to become a vampire (hopefully we are not) please at least make being one more beneficial.

I don't understand why people complain. I think it would be cool if Bethesda made a DLC that explained the creation of vampires and had a questline that involved Lamae Beolfag and Molag Bal.
I would like that too. And who's complaining? I think a vampire dlc is cool.

I see some peoples concerns about Vampires, but I have ab[censored]e faith in Beth that they'll pull this off. They could of done romantic werewolves and vamps in the original game, but they didn't. They made everyone attack you if they knew about your nature. Being a one or the other wasn't romantic, not by a long shot. Bethesda did dragons like no one has ever seen before, so don't worry about them using vampires, even if the are cliche now thanks to various other sources that we not speak of

And we might see werebears.

If the people ragging on the Vampire lovers are anything like me then it's not because of Twilight, that's just one of the major things that have been making them seem well gay. In the last 5 years or so media outlets everywhere have been Vampire this and Vampire that with movies and lame ass tv shows, that crap is old and most of us are tired of it. Of course if you're a teeny bopper then you probably don't know what I'm talking about since your still wet behind the ears. But Vampires and Werewolves are just to overly played out from just about every angle possible, and most of the people would rather have some actual good content added then horse manure like that.

So good for them for following the media trend of uselessness, but we better get some actual real and good content not just this Vampire crap. If that's what floats your boat then good for you, but unlike Morrowind Vampirism isn't a big deal in Skyrim so why do we need to make it one. I'm not saying your bad for wanting or liking Vamp garbage, or Werewolf garbage but the world has seen enough of it to make it want to spew green pea soup, I'd rather have something better.
I understand and share your pov. I'm not arguing the originality behind the TES world and lore even when dealing with fantasy cliches (elves, dragons, etc...) but I'd rather see a Daggerfall type of story in the next DLC involving factions, intrigues and a better view on the political situation in the beginning of the 4th era

Vampires? Better clans (like Morrowind) would be surely a welcome addition but I'm not overly tempted by a whole DLC centered around them.

Hey, I haven't followed these forums for a while. The new DLC is announced but why is everyone talking about vamps and werewolves? The only info I can find about the DLC is the picture that is in the OP. Am I missing something?

I apologize if this has been answered in some previous thread, but I'm not in the mood of reading through 30 threads.

That's true I don't and when I see the content if it's nothing but garbage then I won't. It should be little or nothing to do with Vampire anything since that was what Morrowind was largely about, quest wise. If there are spears then I'll get the DLC anyway regardless of the uselessness that's in it.
Morrowind wasn't about vampires, It was about the Neravarine fulfilling the prophecy. You are being really negative about speculation; You have no idea for sure what the DLC is about. For all we know the vampire thing could be a side thing and the Snow Prince will be the main quest.

And this concludes the argument.

I like the seductive type vampires like Dracula and before him, the older vampire legends.

Leaked DLC files have a great number of things relating to vampires such as becoming a flying vampire lord, new feeding animations, coffin puzzles and animations. Also, crossbows and a yellow-eyed Dragonborn with arrows on his back. The name of the DLC, Dawnguard, suggests vampires. Dawn is when the sun rises, and vampires hate the sun.

To a point, you are right. But just like there is stupid gargabe like Vivec, dragons, Dovahkiin, Morrowind, Kalpa, CHIM, Redguards and boring tuff like that, there will be vampires. it will appease many people. Dragons are overrated and been around for a long time. We see it in games, books, movies and it just gets annoying. I also hate the fact when I walk into a damn bookstore, I see too many vampire books about romantic vampires and teen [censored] material. It sickens me. What happened to the undead creatures that rise from their graves to feed and [censored] virgins? Society indeed has twisted the concept of the vampire to popular culture. But Bethesda can change this by going back to the roots. Though this Vampire Lord thing is of concern.

I'm sorry....but did you say Morrowind, Vivec, and Redguards are BORING? I must have misread that. If Black samurai that can use their swords as nukes or androgynous living gods are boring to you then I dont know what will interest you

I imagine that crossbows are good for killing vampires. Possibley being in effect a 'long range stake'. I'm think that someone, probably a snow elf, made himself a Vampire so that his race would not die out and/or become blind slaves of the Dwemer. Perhaps we will be fight Volkair (or however you spell it) Falmer, or snow elves who arn't Falmer. Imagine being in an underground ice cave and having to fight your way out with a crssbow while enimies litterally COME OUT OF THE WALLS! Be pretty tense.

This clip made me laugh. I agree and the Giant Imp bothers me as well. I can take the flying about like a Lich, but the Appearance is....Then again, there was...http://www.trhonline.com/nosferatu.jpg Ah! I was just....awww, you caught me.

I mean what if It Did, and by MQ I mean general Quests tied to the guilds, how would you feel if the Guilds had some quests added that tie into the general scope of the DLC along with the additional Story from the DLC
As long as the player was not forced into becoming one, I think it would be great to tie them it together. They just add new NPCs to the areas/guilds and let them start the questlines.

I was half joking haha. I was just surprised is all. To each their own of course, I just personally love all the weird, surreal things you mentioned. Those types of things are the reason I find TES so unique I guess.

DawnGUARD! Dammit, I misread it as Dawnstar and assumed the DLC will have something to do with the town, I feel pretty dumb now :)

I think I rather like that the dlc will be about vampires. Hope they'll make them monstrous creatures of the night instead of modern teenage girl erotic fantasies though.
Seems like a good opportunity to make Volkihar vampires as they should be. Although I fear that the pc can become very overpowered very fast.

Nope, the Volkihar use Ice and everything in Skyrim is resistant to ice so...no overpowered

Yeah, a few times I typed in Dawnstar by mistake on google.

I know for a fact Bethesda won't go for the erotic fantasies. They know how much people who like Elder Scrolls vampires hate that stuff. I think they should make the Vampire Lord a Volkihar, without the wings. It would be the monstrous, fugly vampiric creature. Except now we currently have the Sanguinare Vampiris vampires, which are more or less the Cyrodiilic vampires.

Volkihar should be forever ugly. The Cyrodiilic vampires should remain http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs24/f/2007/335/9/3/Ventrue_Vampires_by_Orestes_Sobek.jpg. If Bethesda were to abide by lore, and be influenced by another franchise, they should of made the Volkihar look liks http://www.designyourway.net/artists/female-vampire.jpg and http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs26/f/2008/077/d/9/d92e16d75601ed69.jpg. Not a winged beast, but a humanoid-looking creature. They would match the Volkihar nicely. Pale, sharp teeth, and icy cold. Modeled after the 30 days of night vampires.

Wow a person that can absorb Dragon Souls and can shout Storms has glowing eyes... he must be a Vampire!

Anyway you can be a vampire/werewolf and a hunter at the same time, which sounds kinda cool.

The same reason some Telvanni overlords are said to wear masks. Have a helmet or a mask to cover their face. The backwards feeding can be replaced by the regular "feed to get stronger" mechanic while the other vampires who can blend in can keep the backwards feeding, while having the ability to blend in. Good drawbacks and boons.

I would love to play as a werewolf hunting for other monsters. That said they need to add a Lycanthropy Perk Tree or just boost the survivability.
