Dawnguard Not Worth Twenty

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 7:43 pm

I looked into what would be on the DLC, and also I didn't actually get it til Friday ( I was out of town ) so their were already some comments about the DLC. As I am not the biggest Vampire or Werewolf fan ( I haven't actually played either ) Alot of the content is ( to me) useless. Does that mean I think the DLC is not worth my 1600 points or $20, well no. As their is more to the DLC than just the Questline(s) and new Area(s), their is also content that alot of Vampire and werewolf fan's have been screaming for, it is well worth the money they put into it. It's worth the money I put into it for the new armor's and weapon's and I am injoying the questline.

I guess I take the RP in RPG seriously because all my character's have to do what any person would have to do eat, sleep and take care of their equipment. And they don't sprint from one quest to the next, nor do I use fast travel, carriges yes, horses yes ( but they can't run all day either).

Edit: what I mean it it will probably take me longer than 10 hr's to finish the main DG questline.

4 hours this dlc took me.

That's your own fault though.

There's no way that an average character will complete this in anywhere near four hours: I'll admit that I'm leisurely (and am playing both sides of the expansion with rogue-style characters whose sneak slows things down) but I must have got more like forty hours out of this so far.

I don't want to be one of those [censored] who says that we should all just bow down with gratitude that Bethesda exists and is willing to take the unworthy offering of our money, but: the last time I got this much value out of a game was probably Skyrim.

I agree. As soon as I finished the vampire quests, I was like, "Wait, is that seriously it?" It was SO abrupt, I never even got to see the sun threatened, or any red sun. I felt like I had no choice in the end. I'll admit some of the content they added was neat, but I was really expecting more than just a crossbow, Dawnguard armor and Vampire robes/armor/royal armor.

I think the reason most of us thought it was gonna be akin to Shivering Isles is because when they were talking about their DLC in December/January, they said they weren't going to release little DLCs, one at a time, like they did with Fallout. Initially, they mentioned just one big ol' DLC, so a LOT of us figured this would be sort of like S.I.

I realize you probably have to play the Dawnguard side to experience ALL the MQ line, but then I sort of feel like I'm playing Fallout again----where I have one 'good' character and one 'bad' character... even though there really is no differentiation between Dawnguard and the vampires.

Also, like... I sort of figured there'd be some huge, ultimate showdown between the two factions.... yeah, I was sorely disappointed. I'll say no more, for fear of spoilers.

Don't forget that the Dawnguard and Vampire questline is pretty much copy paste from each other, with maybe two or three different quests.

I think it is $20 dollars worth of content, but far off from being 7 months of quality work kind of content.

I greatly enjoyed Dawnguard. Its made me excited for DLC to come. I wish there was a few more differences between the storylines but I think its worth the buy seeing as for 20 bucks in a game like Modern Warfare you'd be paying for maps.

Maybe worth about 15 bucks in my humble or not so humble opinion.
More is more and I was expecting to have more features woven threw this game, sure the new content is neat but there should have been more added to it than a quest and a few items barely a handfull of new spells the New transformations are great and all but there should have been more.

I think this is a very fair statement. Some people really don't care so much about 5-10 extra dollars, but 7 months? REALLY? The FO (both 3 and New Vegas) DLCs were released once every ~3 months and seem equal in length and content...

I respectfully disagree. I think it's worth it. I haven't finished it yet and I got it on release. I am only a few quests in (about 3rd quest) the Dawnguard side. I have been doing a lot of side quests that this DLC gives you. Especially loved the Atherium side quest (Lost to the Ages). My file was at 305 hours before starting the DLC and now it's at 323 hours, due to all the content that's in this. I have fun watching the new random encounters that unfold. New dungeons. A lot of new items to collect. 2 faction questlines. 2 new areas (which I haven't even got to yet). According to people, there are wild werewolves too (haven't witnessed this yet). I think it's well worth my money, in my opinion, of course. That's just all I seen, I still got plenty more to see.
This.
This dlc was worth 1200 ms max and thats being generous. Oblivions Mehrunes razor 240 ms points dlc added more items than dawnguard.
Merunes razor added ONE weapon, this added the DG weapons and armor, dragon bone weapons, new spells, new companions, new quests, seriously, wtf do people REALLY expect. A skyrim sized DLC for 1200 msp?

Dawnguard takes longer to beat than just about any Call of Duty game out right now. Was it worth $20? Yes. Could it have been MUCH better. Yes.

I understand that. I can see 20 bucks being a reasonable price, but after this long of a wait, I expect a bonanza of new content. Doesn't sound like there's a whole lot of stuff here to justify the amount of time they spent working on it, especially considering all the bugs that have been reported.

Content-wise there was plenty. One issue for me, and this issue was 99% my fault, was the lack of challenging enemies. Skyrim was my first RPG ever and I hadn't played a video game in probably 10 years so I really didn't understand how to role play in the best manner. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have let my character go beyond level 40 or so . . . maybe even level 30. My character finished at level 63 and it became far too easy to kill any enemy.

That being said, I think it would have been great if Beth would have scaled enemies for DG. Instead of being designed for levels 10 on up, maybe it could have been 20 or even 30. I'm guessing most people's characters were at least level 25 by the time they finished Skyrim's main quests and were ready for DG.

Overall I felt the DLC was worth the purchase because it allowed me to continue exploring old and new areas. And that was the best part about this game - the exploring. The content, beautiful world, and variety of things to do made Skyrim the best game I've played. DG definitely added to Skryim's value.

In my opinion I would say that this DlC should of been $15. The main quests was great and the new additions of weapons, enemies and enviroments were satisfying enough.
I was hoping for a lot more minor quest outside of the the main one though. I would of also liked to see a couple more beast race followers and the additon more cittizens though out the cities of skyrim ( Ancient Dragons ate many of mine).

But i thoughly enjoyed it thats what counts.

I found the vale quite a unique and ( forgive me for this word) immersive area. Tell me, this for $20 they labeled this a DLC not an EXPANSION, for $20 what else can you get? Some crappy maps for 'that mulitplayer game we all love to hate'? A mission that should have been included with the main campaign but was taken out to make dlc ( Dues ex 3) or some items and areas that were given to people who pre-ordered/ payed for more expensive editions? I was quite skeptical about dawnguard and I for one was thoroughly amazed by the quality of it, now it is a bethesda thing, so its not perfect and has its issues, but as ive said before, for a $20 DL, I doubt anything on XBL comes close.
Why even compare it to Cod? Compare it to other Bethesda products and you see the difference. There wasn't much new stuff. Lot's of retextured old things etc and short quests. 1000 points maybe, 1600 no way.

Quiet you fools! They may be reading this thread! :ahhh: But based on what i've read, i doubt i'll be paying 20€ for this. That's a lot of money, you know. Unless of course some awesome mod comes along that requires it  Or how much does 1600 MS points cost in euros?
16 euros or something. Possibly more or less. Edit more like 18 euros

I am not to concerned. My biggest problem with Skyrim was the longevity as well.. but then I realized all I was doing was story line, wondering what in the world am I doing. No real gamer JUST does story, we mess around, get lost, explorer, etc. If all you do is the story then I'm sure it goes by quickly and becomes tedious even but you have to take your time, and that is what I'm planning to do this time around. This is just my view on it though.

I would like to know the estimated completion time the story lines take, from each side if anyone knows though.
