Dawnguard Not Worth Twenty

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:38 pm

I don't generally like writing threads like this, simply because I don't like the aggressive negativity towards someone expressing their opinion. I just finished Dawnguard today, yeah today. See I'm in high school still, I'm a teenager at seventeen years old, so we have this thing called Summer break. Anyway I thought I'd add that in so that way I don't get any comments about "well I work or have a job". This isn't what this thread is about. Now another insight in my life is I don't have a lot of money, what money I get is very little and rarely do I have something to buy hobby goods. I decided to add my money with my brothers and buy Dawnguard, my hobby good.

I have to say, I feel twenty dollars is a bit of a steep price to pay if it took me two days to beat Dawnguard, I bought Dawnguard yesterday. Two days isn't a lot of game play. I had been fighting over if I should buy Dawnguard the DLC or The Darkness 2. I feel like I should have went latter. The Darkness 2 probably would have last me at least a week, so I could [censored] and moan about that. [btw, that's a joke since many people are going to consider this thread [censored]ing and moaning].

I feel that Dawnguard is not worth it's twenty dollar price. It's to short and doesn't add much. I also feel they could have went richer in the world. When we finally got to see
Spoiler
living snow elves and were taken to the vale
I had expected more richness and vibrancy, but it ended up being Skyrim with some dress up plants. They could have added more to this world, they could have added more richness. And I know they are capable of much much more. Shivering Isles for example or even the Oblivion itself.

I am glad for the things I did get. The Vampire Lord is fun to play around with, the perks are nice. The new armor is cool and crossbows are fun. Though I do wish I had gotten some decent mage robes. Since my mage armor perk becomes obsolete with light armored mages.

The point is this expansion feels like a lower ladder of DLC. From what I heard, this was to be their big Shivering Isle expansion. And I feel this was more equivalent to the Nights of the Nine. A lot of fetching, a lot of doing what people tell you. All in all, I was kind of let down. Glad for the things I got, but feel my money could have been put towards something else.

I am sure there is more DLC to come for Skyrim if you're not satisfied. Perhaps Bethesda was planning this DLC to be their "Nights of the Nine" and there may be a" Shivering Isles" sized DLC to come.

I have yet to play Dawnguard, but I am hoping to see some good feedback from other people before buying.

I respectfully disagree. I think it's worth it. I haven't finished it yet and I got it on release. I am only a few quests in (about 3rd quest) the Dawnguard side. I have been doing a lot of side quests that this DLC gives you. Especially loved the Atherium side quest (Lost to the Ages). My file was at 305 hours before starting the DLC and now it's at 323 hours, due to all the content that's in this. I have fun watching the new random encounters that unfold. New dungeons. A lot of new items to collect. 2 faction questlines. 2 new areas (which I haven't even got to yet). According to people, there are wild werewolves too (haven't witnessed this yet). I think it's well worth my money, in my opinion, of course. That's just all I seen, I still got plenty more to see.

I think what my little brother is expressing, is what I expressed. I know Bethseda can do stuff much deeper, much more intricate than this. More vibrant and rich. I'm the type of person, who likes to do the DLC main quest first or even the main game main quest first. Just make a character to do that. Then explore. But the quest itslef was to short. The main quest and story I felt was contrived. It felt like they added whatever to make it awesome. And I didn't see how anything really lead. They didn't leave clues, or give you big ideas on what this all could really mean. They just threw one awesome thing in your face with another awesome thing in your face. There was no intricaty bread crumbs, I felt they could have done better because I have seen them do better.

I agree. I havn't even finished dawnguard yet but I'm not in a rush to like i thought i would be. I played around with the vampire for a bit, and probably got 1/3 of the way with the dawnguard side but i was never really too intrested in finishing it. I ended up making a new character and starting the game over again because that felt more refreshing. I'm glad for everything dawnguard brought. It really brought some cool stuff, but i felt like it should have been in the game to begin with and i don't consider it a $20 DLC. $10 would have been the price id put on it.

Where to people think they heard that this was going to be SI size? All I heard was that it would be bigger than nights of the nine but smaller than SI, and that it would be around Point Lookout sized. I was pretty sure I kept myself up to date on the info of Dawnguard, and I honestly still have no idea where people are getting this "as big as SI" from.

Maybe it was the hype. It's what we heard, not what we expected. What we expected was something deeper, but end up getting something shallow.

Thats the thing. You aint got plenty more to see lol. 3rd main quest? you got 1 more after that. When you get the scrolls and bow you fight harkon then ts over. You dont even become guild leader. No end reward except Aurils bow. Cant even upgrade your stronghold.

Vampire side even shorter. Harkon gives you 1 quest to ge a blood challice. After that its get the scrolls and bow quest. Then you got to kill him. 3 main vampire quests in total. Woohoo!

Exactly my point. I wanted more. Harkon, just suddenly trust me because of the blood chalice? And

the snow elves were just thrown in there
I felt like everything was discombobulated.

I still am in 20 hours of it. I'm still in the middle of a couple side quests. I still have yet to see The Forgotten Vale, which probably has extra stuff in there too. All in all, I'm happy about this DLC. I understand it's nothing like Shivering Isles, but sometime down the line there could be. I like this DLC, it adds quite a bit to the world, even when you start from a new save. I would have gotten no matter what, as it added to the world. If it was worth the $20 is a matter of one's perspective. I think it is/was, others won't. Despite you thinking I ain't got much more to do, I probably do... If there are more side quests after these are done or new caverns to explore in the new area.

I won't be coming back to this thread, in fear you may spoil more of it lol.

I found the vale quite a unique and ( forgive me for this word) immersive area. Tell me, this for $20 they labeled this a DLC not an EXPANSION, for $20 what else can you get? Some crappy maps for 'that mulitplayer game we all love to hate'? A mission that should have been included with the main campaign but was taken out to make dlc ( Dues ex 3) or some items and areas that were given to people who pre-ordered/ payed for more expensive editions?

I was quite skeptical about dawnguard and I for one was thoroughly amazed by the quality of it, now it is a bethesda thing, so its not perfect and has its issues, but as ive said before, for a $20 DL, I doubt anything on XBL comes close.

The Vale could have been better. It was just a dressed up Skyrim terrain with maybe a few sixy odd plants. Woopy.

SPOILER

I can understand youre point x27 but, remember the vale is in skyrim, its just a place that well has been forgotten.
However I for one do not remember and area connected through teleporters, where there are giants with crystals that I can use to teleport to secret areas. or ice flows where I get attacked by two dragons with unique scripts for the ice flows of the area and the ability to meet snow elf specters and two LIVE snow elves.

From the way they had made the Snow Elves, whom appeared spiritually more successful than other elves, and other humans I would have expected their spiritual place to be much more abundant. But I also understand your point. I had assumed the Vale was an otherworld. Utherworld, a place of Skyrim, but of not Skyrim. The caves leading up to it were more otherworldly.

I don't generally like writing threads like this, simply because I don't like the aggressive negativity towards someone expressing their opinion. I just finished Dawnguard today, yeah today. See I'm in high school still, I'm a teenager at seventeen years old, so we have this thing called Summer break. No they are not. Bethesda makes crap and hypes it up with lies and bs. Those that are familiar with Bethesda know what to expect, but new people come in and give them praise they don't deserve.

I think one of their best was Shivering Isle, imo. It's why I have faith or had faith in Bethseda to come up with something better.

What people fail to realise, this is not an expansion, this is not Blood moon, tribunal or Shivering isles. The only bethesda item we can compare this to would be knights of the nine, and you cant say this is worse than it.

I feel this DLC is 100% worth the money, i haven't even completed the main quest line for the Vampires yet and i've played for 2 days straight. This is the most fun i've had on Skyrim in a long time!
