Dawnguard Not Worth Twenty

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:13 am

To put this into perspective, what other brand new released game (since DG is new) can you spend 20-30 hours in for only $20?

MP3 I finished in 10 hours for $60 MSRP.

Spiderman I heard can be beaten in 6-8 hours and fully completed slowly in 15 hours.

Dragon's Dogma is one of the longer ones at 20-25 hours, but can spend 50+ hours doing side quests etc.

Mass Effect 3 (not really new) is 30ish hours.

All the above games retail at $60 when released. Granted they were "new" gameplay rather than an extension of all ready made gameplay, but hour wise I think DG is priced right.

This is what I'm a little confused about. I read on this thread that the MQ is only 3 quests long (6 in total including both sides) but there's 20-30 hours of content. Is there loads of sidequests or does DG simply add large areas to explore?

And if you go further and compare DG to other game's DLC. you get alot more for the same price compared to these other games.

Again this is an argument, that seems to be coming up a lot, about quantity. Everyone shrugs their shoulders and goes "You get a lot of stuff." But for me, quality has always been why I buy a game. Sure they have a lot of stuff, but they do nothing with the stuff.

If you ONLY do the least amount of quests on both sides I think it's 10-15 hours (10 hours is really only accomplishable if you play god mode-esque where you can literally run through every enemy). If you do the bigger side quests it adds 8-10 hours. And like Skyrim itself is, there are people that have spent 50+ hours on DG content only (beta testers) and are still having fun.

A lot of people say the MQ of DG is much more encompassing than the Skyrim MQ line.

I disagree. It was. And then it wasn't.
Spoiler
The addition of snow eleves
after that the DG MQ lost me. I was completely absolutely utterly baffled. They added whatever because they thought it was cool instead of actually writing something with quality. With maybe, how about that Dawnguard problem? Which they never seen to finish.

Stop criticizing Bethesda. This is mainly because:
1. They actually made a DLC they don't have to you know.
2. It was originally gonna be $30 or $40 dollars for the expantion (from what I've heard) so stop complaining.
Edit:
It is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worth the $20
I have no problem with this dlc(Only the bugs) but it's very short and fun, also I like the new stuff they bring in such as new weapen, armour and spell. I think it should be 800 msp but it alreasy been done.

It will get to that price. People need to understand that, like any new game, this is the MAX price it will be. They'll have deals on it soon enough.

Also, I can't remember the last time I bought 1600 M$ points for $20. I always get them for $16 or less. There's enough sales at local an online stores that it's not hard to get discounted M$ points. So you have to factor that "discount" in also.

Well again I had hoped Bethseda had shaped up and made some worthy of full price. But no. Next DLC, I'm waiting for a while.

The best piece of advise I could give you is that when you're 17 and don't have a lot of money never buy a videogame when it first comes out. Wait a little while... let the reviews and player reviews come out so that you can better determine if it's worth the dollars. Another nice side effect is that by waiting, you punch back that feeling to 'impulse buy' and might discover you don't really even want it anyway. So you spent $20 for a DLC you didn't really feel was worth the money - a fairly cheap lesson learned.

The lessons will only cost more as life goes on.

This will be your friend. Since finding it I don't think I have ever bought a game for more than 50% of MSRP. EVEN when I buy it day 1 (thanks to BBY deals and PMing)

Twenty was in our budget. I was going to help my little brother out, I'm twenty. And said he could get any game 20 or below. Game or DLC.

That's why I stillI use a video rental store. I almost never buy games anymore because you don't get much for your bucks or it just buggy crap. I did buy Skyrime on day one and will probably buy GTA5, I feel I've gotten my money out of Skyrim and Dawn Guard.

Blame them for signing a deal with the devil, aka Microsoft. Now they are forced to release things on a deadline, no matter how buggy, lacking and untested it is.

Wait, so the company that donates millions to charities is the devil now? Also you're blaming Microsoft for bugs....in a Bethesda product...think about that for a second also I believe theres this huge group of beta testers on the forums then can pretty much say that the DLC was tested.

If you watch the CAG, there have been plenty of games I bought (like fallout NV, red dead, ME3, Max Payne 3, AC:R, Batman etc etc) where I purchased it, played it for a week or two, then traded it back in and MADE money.

CAG has made me one happy gamer.

This here few games give over 30 hours of content. It's not because they are short it's just most games today are too easy lol. The games that have harder difficulty setting most of the time make the game cheap not challengeing. Dark Souls for example first run took me a good 40 hours after that I beat it in about 12 hours. There isn't alot of content just the challenge made it longer.

You do have games like skyrim and other sandbox type games gta, minecraft etc. That you can spend 100's of hours in.

The thing about timed exclusives, in the long run Bethesda will have more money from MIcrosoft to make better products.

I'm turning 17 this July and I enjoyed this DLC. They promised 10-20 hours of gameplay (more than some of these new 60$ offers).

They listed new quests + side quests, skills + perks, new transformation skill, NPCs, creatures, factions, items, dungeons, powers + spells, shouts and more. I really think it's worth 20 bucks. I will play it again and going with Dawnguard that time, but I still want to get all perks for my another skill and finish all side quests first.

Some of the dungeons are pretty huge, and Soul Crain is pretty huge too. I would have even payed 30 bucks for this game, but if Microsoft and/or Bethesda wants 1600 points only, I'm glad to pay only that much money.

Length of the DLC depends on play style. If you never fast travel and are a stealth based character you will spend more time playing than offensive warrior who utilizes fast travel. I've gotten fifteen hours out of the Dawnguard side with one character and I'm not done yet. Well worth the price to me.

My brother, Prophet, plays a mage character.

You were promised 10-20 hours of content. You got 10-20 hours of content. Besides, Serana is a pretty deep character and not including the Dragonborn, she's the main character.

Alot of them are deep, Harkon, Isran , and even that crazy guy who "listens" to Arkay.
