Dawnguard Not Worth Twenty

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 5:25 pm

You should really stop over-exaggerating things, dawnguard adds in A LOT of stuff into the game and you're making it seem it only adds in one weapon and a quest.

People are going to either love the DLC or hate it. I loved it because it gave me more options on weapons, armor, etc. The DLC was fun and i never got bored with it. well except the vale lol just got repetitive lol.

People are going to either love the DLC or hate it.

Why do you say that? I think it's pretty middle of the road as far as DLC goes.

I view the dlc more in a fallout 3 perspective I so this being the first is like Operation anchorage so I'm guessing we will get several more DLCs as well as some smaller ones that add weapons armor locations ( battle horn castle like) so yea it's a. It steep but it's what you have to deal with as a game now a days it's not cheap to be a gamer.

I've just found out there are Huskies in Dawnguard. That is worth £20 alone... seriously. I've wanted a pet Husky in Skyrim since release and now I can finally have one :hehe:

What can I say I'm easy

Is it worth $20? I do not think so.

Can we do anything about it?
No either. Skyrim(obviously not The Elder Scrolls series) now has almost as much fans as the CoD series and Bethesda can just charge a lot more than it worth and people will still buy it, just like those overpriced map packs in CoD.

Just as a side note. Civilization V's expansion Gods and Kings adds tons of new features, like 9 new Civs, new gameplay mechanics, new new scenarios, new visuals etc, to Civ V, and it still costs only $30($27 if you buy it earlier). The amount of new contents it adds to Civ V is probably twice or three times of Dawngaurd adds to Skyrim.

Despite those economic problems, video games are selling more and more day by day. In the past we seldom see games selling more than 10mil copies(except those Pokemon thingy). But nowadays almost every major title that have been advertised enough and have an acceptable quality can sell close or more than that.
It is inevitable that publisher will capitalize on this and charge customers more.

Stop criticizing Bethesda. This is mainly because:
1. They actually made a DLC they don't have to you know.
2. It was originally gonna be $30 or $40 dollars for the expantion (from what I've heard) so stop complaining.
Edit:
It is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worth the $20

1. Publisher can get around 30% of the price back from a retail copy of the game($18 if the game is sold at $60). But they can get more than 70% back for a digital copy(DLC). So they can get back around $14 for Dawnguard.
You really think Dawnguard has as much content as 77%(14/18) of the original game?

2. I'm sure someone in the team might have even suggested 50 or 60. Really, don't want to be rude but your arguments are really lame.

Considering that Dawnguard and Volkihar have essentially the same questline...it's not worth $20.

Yeah, for what it gives, it's not worth a third of the price of the base game. But it's ES so it gets bought regardless.

Nope, launching a dawnguard novice over 20/30 feet is bliss ;) that was a shot I was proud of, but I know I can beat it!

lol, nah I meant it as no disrespect. It took awhile but I understand all the new hardcoe skyrim fans. Brand new to series, its like nothing else out there. Reminds of fo3 and their dlcs. Thought they were the [censored] bc ive never experienced anything like the game gave me. Having fun doing mundane things and simple things amazed the hell outta me. Wasnt til later I started seeing and understanding the hate and bickering. Ignorance is bliss meaning that most will get a kick outta everything skyrim has to offer, and by next game will be disappointed with thfeatures taking out or things made even more easier. No sarcasm.

That's how it happens really. People when they first have a game are really excited by it. My brother showed me Oblivion. That was my first Elder Scroll series game, I got all giddy. We also had Morrowind and he showed me that one. So I have only played two games and Skyrim is my third Elder Scrolls game. My brother has played all the games. Even if he bought them used and way back when. And it's cause Morrowind was his first Elder Scrolls so he went out and sought out the other games, played them, got Oblivion, etc.

Exactly my point. I wanted more. Harkon, just suddenly trust me because of the blood chalice? And
Spoiler
the snow elves were just thrown in there
I felt like everything was discombobulated.

because they're more worried about adding something "cool" like a vamp lord, instead of worrying about questlines and story.

haha i think this all the time. Just wait until they discard more things in TES 6, then all the skyrim lovers will be like us. haha

Blame them for signing a deal with the devil, aka Microsoft. Now they are forced to release things on a deadline, no matter how buggy, lacking and untested it is.

i agree, even as a console player, i wish they didn't do that. I'd rather them create Skyrim for PC only first, then port it to consoles even a year later like Oblivion. I wouldn't have minded one bit if i got a great experience like i did in Oblivion.

Let's just hope that Beth has at least one more substantial DLC, that's all I ask for. Equivalent (hopefully more) than Dawnguard.

1st Commandment of DarkZerker: Thou Shalt Not Compare Two Different Genres as the amount of content a DLC gives cannot be accurately compared.

I don't generally like writing threads like this, simply because I don't like the aggressive negativity towards someone expressing their opinion. I just finished Dawnguard today, yeah today. See I'm in high school still, I'm a teenager at seventeen years old, so we have this thing called Summer break. Anyway I thought I'd add that in so that way I don't get any comments about "well I work or have a job". This isn't what this thread is about. Now another insight in my life is I don't have a lot of money, what money I get is very little and rarely do I have something to buy hobby goods. I decided to add my money with my brothers and buy Dawnguard, my hobby good.

I have to say, I feel twenty dollars is a bit of a steep price to pay if it took me two days to beat Dawnguard, I bought Dawnguard yesterday. Two days isn't a lot of game play. I had been fighting over if I should buy Dawnguard the DLC or The Darkness 2. I feel like I should have went latter. The Darkness 2 probably would have last me at least a week, so I could [censored] and moan about that. [btw, that's a joke since many people are going to consider this thread [censored]ing and moaning].

I feel that Dawnguard is not worth it's twenty dollar price. It's to short and doesn't add much. I also feel they could have went richer in the world. When we finally got to see
Spoiler
living snow elves and were taken to the vale
I had expected more richness and vibrancy, but it ended up being Skyrim with some dress up plants. They could have added more to this world, they could have added more richness. And I know they are capable of much much more. Shivering Isles for example or even the Oblivion itself.

I am glad for the things I did get. The Vampire Lord is fun to play around with, the perks are nice. The new armor is cool and crossbows are fun. Though I do wish I had gotten some decent mage robes. Since my mage armor perk becomes obsolete with light armored mages.

The point is this expansion feels like a lower ladder of DLC. From what I heard, this was to be their big Shivering Isle expansion. And I feel this was more equivalent to the Nights of the Nine. A lot of fetching, a lot of doing what people tell you. All in all, I was kind of let down. Glad for the things I got, but feel my money could have been put towards something else.
Theres ALOT more to do then just Dawngaurd. Thats like saying Skyrim wasnt worth $60 because I beat the main quest in 2 days. There are other side quest to do for the Dawngaurd or the Vamp Lord.
