Dawnguard Not Worth Twenty

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 10:03 am

What Bethsda wanted with this patch wasn't to add alot "more" and insted focusing on making new things. Of course they could have added a hundred normal sidequest, giving you some gold when you finished them. That would have last you for weeks, but how fun would that be. Why did they chose to add new things, and not just more? Beacuse skyrim already is HUGE. I have put in more then 200 hours to this game, and im still not done. Also, by bringing new things makes you able to re-experinece the game, in a different way.
Yep,thats what i think. They wanted to add more content to play around with, weapons, skills and such. Also, this is probably not going to be the last DLC.

Well i think it's easy. The dlc have very few more content then the Point Lockout DLC of Fallout 3, which costs 10 dollar.
So it isn't a good deal, of course no very bad deal ore something, but surely nothing, where you can say I have gotten moch for my money or more then I excepted.

And we happy europeans will have to pay twenty euros, so even 25 dollars.

£20 for over 20 hours of gameplay and that's counting all the replays I'll be doing over the next few years with different characters etc, including all the game mechanics with the perk trees, VL form?

£20 is something to eat and going to see a film at the cinema which altogether is like 3 hours?

Plus don't forget all those new games that come out with 10 hour storylines that cost above £40 easily?

I think it was fine. I got my moneys worth.

Oh look it's the overpriced film comparison. I wondered how long it would take for this to show up.

There is not 20 hours of gameplay in Dawnguard even if you include both sides which are

the same quests

I'm on the fence wondering if it was worth it. I did enjoy the content thats there thou. Most of it just seem like a montage of stuff that we wanted to see or looked cool with little story behind it.
Spoiler
The snow elves didn't go with the story at all.
I do enjoy the crossbow's but this isn't true for everyone's opinion. The side quest were pretty cool as well. All in all I had about 20 hours out of it, and I will say I have more bang for my buck with this then most other games.

If you look at the price for content, we got alot more for our buck than any other dlc out right now. Most $10 dlcs can be finished in 2-4 hours. There are full games for $60 that can be completed in 10 hours, so I dont see a problem with a $20 dlc being completed in 20 hours. Or even $20 for 10hours (as some people claim to have seen it all in 10 hours)

Finished the main quest in a short amount of time -> it lacks content.

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!!

You do know there are sidequests, you do know that the crux of the game is not doing the quests but screwing around with these newfound powers, exploring the new lands and all that?

todd howard said in e3 interviews that it wasnt an expansion but somewhere between add-on and expansion....that should've given a clue to the size of dawnguard

i agree $20 is too much but unfortunately thats the normal price for most add ons these days

I would think you got your 10 dollars worth seeing as how you split the cost with your brother.

how long did you play dawnguard? did you do the vampire lord questline and blot out the sun or did you do the dawnguard questline and prevent it from happening? did you do(or try to do) the sidequest that add to the overall story/gameplay?

I have been playing dawnguard off and on since release and I feel that I am almost done with it(even with doing sidequest). I made a save on my main character at the vampire lords castle so that when I finish it on dawnguard I will go and try and be the vampire and see how it plays out for me.

I feel there is about 20 hours of content perside and I initially assume that all DLC's will be between 20 and 40 hours, so either 1 dollar an hour or 1 dollar for every two hours.

I'm sorry you feel you didn't get your moneys worth, but at the same time I am glad that you and many others have and will buy the dawnguard DLC because it will help encourage and support Bethesda.

Just keep doing what you're doing, let them know how you feel. What you liked didn't like and what they might possibly do to make it a better overall experience, not only for yourself but for everyone else as well.

This dlc was worth 1200 ms max and thats being generous. Oblivions Mehrunes razor 240 ms points dlc added more items than dawnguard.

Ughh that was amazing! Some mini underground village and Morag Tong armour, WELL worth the money.

I think 1200 would have been acceptible, but i'l admit i'l buy whatever dlc they release being a really devoted fan. Wasn't massively impressed, completed it twice (either alignment).

I think there is a decent amount of new content. You can get $20 worth of time out of Dawnguard. I think the content is just boring. It's a quality v quantity thing. The quantity is there, but I think most of it is just boring. I finished the MQ as VL just to finish it and get it done with. It felt like a chore. The side quests are lacking IMO. Forgotten Vale and a few other things are great aesthetically but lack in execution. Lots of running around for the sake of running around.

Personally I found it to be worth the price tag, but then again that is just my opinion. I have plated through the DLC once so far, as a Dawnguard, and and it gave me about 20 hours of entertainement before I was finished. Now I have started a new character that will join the Volkihar and I expect another 15-20 hours of Dawnguard content alone, in addition to the time I will have in Skyrim itself.

I don't generally like writing threads like this, simply because I don't like the aggressive negativity towards someone expressing their opinion. I just finished Dawnguard today, yeah today. See I'm in high school still, I'm a teenager at seventeen years old, so we have this thing called Summer break. Anyway I thought I'd add that in so that way I don't get any comments about "well I work or have a job". This isn't what this thread is about. Now another insight in my life is I don't have a lot of money, what money I get is very little and rarely do I have something to buy hobby goods. I decided to add my money with my brothers and buy Dawnguard, my hobby good.

I have to say, I feel twenty dollars is a bit of a steep price to pay if it took me two days to beat Dawnguard, I bought Dawnguard yesterday. Two days isn't a lot of game play. I had been fighting over if I should buy Dawnguard the DLC or The Darkness 2. I feel like I should have went latter. The Darkness 2 probably would have last me at least a week, so I could [censored] and moan about that. [btw, that's a joke since many people are going to consider this thread [censored]ing and moaning].

I feel that Dawnguard is not worth it's twenty dollar price. It's to short and doesn't add much. I also feel they could have went richer in the world. When we finally got to see
Spoiler
living snow elves and were taken to the vale
I had expected more richness and vibrancy, but it ended up being Skyrim with some dress up plants. They could have added more to this world, they could have added more richness. And I know they are capable of much much more. Shivering Isles for example or even the Oblivion itself.

I am glad for the things I did get. The Vampire Lord is fun to play around with, the perks are nice. The new armor is cool and crossbows are fun. Though I do wish I had gotten some decent mage robes. Since my mage armor perk becomes obsolete with light armored mages.

The point is this expansion feels like a lower ladder of DLC. From what I heard, this was to be their big Shivering Isle expansion. And I feel this was more equivalent to the Nights of the Nine. A lot of fetching, a lot of doing what people tell you. All in all, I was kind of let down. Glad for the things I got, but feel my money could have been put towards something else.
Stop criticizing Bethesda. This is mainly because:
1. They actually made a DLC they don't have to you know.
2. It was originally gonna be $30 or $40 dollars for the expantion (from what I've heard) so stop complaining.
Edit:
It is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY worth the $20

The best piece of advise I could give you is that when you're 17 and don't have a lot of money never buy a videogame when it first comes out. Wait a little while... let the reviews and player reviews come out so that you can better determine if it's worth the dollars. Another nice side effect is that by waiting, you punch back that feeling to 'impulse buy' and might discover you don't really even want it anyway. So you spent $20 for a DLC you didn't really feel was worth the money - a fairly cheap lesson learned.

True of anything. This is why I'm steering clear of the first few waves of next gen consoles. Not only will I avoid all the bugs, they will have dropped the price big time :D

So the MQ is really short? Are there plenty of sidequests or something? Not sure how you can get 20 hours of gameplay when there is so few MQ unless there's loads of sidequests or it adds a large area to explore or something.

I am sure there is more DLC to come for Skyrim if you're not satisfied. Perhaps Bethesda was planning this DLC to be their "Nights of the Nine" and there may be a" Shivering Isles" sized DLC to come.

I have yet to play Dawnguard, but I am hoping to see some good feedback from other people before buying.
Unfortunately, I think Beth said that all DLC's will be the same size, if not smaller than, Dawnguard.

Don't compare it with bad dlcs, compare it with good dls like the fallout one, or Age of Amalur, GTA and so on.

And then we can see.

Comparing something with [censored] doesn't make it gold... or so ^^.

Most of it just seem like a montage of stuff that we wanted to see or looked cool with little story behind it.

True story, but I would expect this from a modder, not from a professional studio. I personally want a valuable part that adds something to the world of TES. Not vampires from Underworld.
When I first so the gamejamvideo I was impressed, but never thought they are seriously would ad this Vampirething. But just my personaly opinion, when you find that thing aweseome, so do it. i found it cliche like, copied even a bit unfitting to the world.
