Dissapointing direction with Hearthfire, Bethesda...

Post » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:40 pm

For YOU it might be dissapointing but for me I am happy as hell! I've been waiting for this [censored]!
+1
Call me jaded ("You're jaded!!"), but I don't expect anything from the Beth team. Anything beyond the base game I bought is just freakin' icing on the cake. I'm not sure about many of you, but the DLC thing is a very, very recent development in my personal gaming history and I don't feel a developer 'owes' me anything beyond what they are willing and able to put out.

Kraigus - I still think the big DLCs are in the pipeline; they just wanted to give us a little gift for folks who want to buy it.

Is this confirmed?

If I'm correct then this is around £2.50 in Sterling.

This makes me a bit happier

It is. It's 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox = $5 USD.

I'm disappointed too :( let's hope we get a full content-driven DLC for year's end then.

1. I can think of 10 20 mods on PC that are more interesting than a buid-your-own-home DLC.

2. I know a few people asked for the ability to adopt children, but really, I'd rather, uh, procreate and have my own.

Now this is being explained and I am seeing the price I am feeling a bit better, lol

I just hope they let me build adjoining to one of the cities. Especially those that don't already have a buy-able home there

Skyrim is an action RPG, not a sims RPG.

Don't make it out to be what it's not.

Of course. How dare Bethesda release an optional, cheap DLC that caters to the existing fans who do enjoy role playing in the game, even though I may not. Why, that just rustles my jimmies!

I don't care which kind of RPG, it still involves roleplaying. And roleplaying is much more than hack & slash.

For the first time I'm disappointed with Bethesda.

What happened to only giving out major sized dlc??

This is just like Battlethorn Castle. I remember back in Oblivion days when people said they'd rather have had a Kvatch rebuild than silly dlc like Battlethorn, Frostcrag & Horse armor.

I'd rather have had a Winterhold rebuild where you can rebuild a city than this

I'm not overly excited. If the plots of land are all out in the middle of nowhere then I've already made my mind up that I won't be buying it
I believe I remember Todd saying they planned a larger DLC followed by several small ones and then another large one. No time to look it up however.

I love being able to build a home. Reminds me of building a stronghold in MW or the stronghold we got in a DLC for Oblvion. Love, love and double love such additions despite them not being huge additions to the game it gives me hours of gameplay. Very nice for those on console who can't make house mods.

But of course I'm hoping for a more substantial DLC in the future.

*crosses fingers*

This greatly reminds me of the "children" complaint back in the day...

There's nothing wrong with complaining about something that breaks immersion by not being included, and then complaining again that its terrible inclusion also breaks immersion.
The kids in Skyrim didn't have to be horrifying Oblivion-faced monsters, but the face that they are is awful.

Well, it's something atleast, I just wonder how many new bugs we'll get with it  They should fix up the little things first and then add on to it, instead of adding on, and making it even mor complex to fix after.

I'm already horrified to put any of my weapons on the racks in the houses that are already in the game because of all the glitches that people report.
I don't know how I'm to be able to trust a fresh DLC with not having all the problems the main game still has.

I'll just wait and let people figure out which combination of weapon racks and display cases results in permanent weapon loss so I can just get it over with right at the start and save myself the dread.

As a PC user, I'm not gonna jump on this the moment it's released like I did with DG.
The 5 bucks seems like a fair price for the size it seems to hold.
But I want to see if it holds more than the 'build your own home' mod already out for PC, which looking at the trailer essentially does the same, just less polished/voiced/whathaveyou.
But hey, that's why the mod is free and this isn't.

And housing isn't really what makes my heart flutter (I should have that checked out..) with excitement.
If there's more to it than meets the eye, I ll probably buy it, but for now, I wait and see what youtube says from the perspective of the X-box users.

And that's where it's probably going to sell best, consoles. Since they don't have access to mods that can do pretty much the same.

There's my two cents, just 249 more like me and you have your DLC.

I agree with Summer, I like the idea of be-able to bulit house, espcially since i'm on the ps3 and have not mod :( personally i'm more Dissapointing with Bethesda due to the lack of dawngaurd on the PS3 or atleast some information on what is happening  literally it's like we are being ignored....

To me, it looks just like a house mod I'm already using, but seeing as this has the XBox exclusive (for 30 days) release date, what wrong with that? PC users can build their own house anywhere they want, we have the creation kit. For consoles, this is a great release!

And even if it is "just" a house mod, it's looking like a really good one.

Hope it will get on ps3 though, this is not a very big DLC. Should not be a big problem to put on ps3, right?
I can understand that I have to wait a long time for Dawnguard, and I am still patient with it. But this should not be a very big deal.

Cooking bread and adopting are not what Elder Scrolls is about. It's about adventure, magic and hack and slash.

I like it. I think for some of us it can give our characters more depth; No longer just a lone adventurer in the world but with a family to fight for. Whilst it might not be for everyone I love the option being there and hope it's something expanded upon and incorporated into the next ES game.

Every part of this has already been in mods, and they even ripped the UI and "crafting table" directly from a build-your-own-house mod.

Not the first time Bethesda have taken inspiration from mods and won't be the last. It's part of the quid-pro-pro of them giving us the mod tools.

Whether they get credit or not I bet the authors of those mods are still proud that they've inspired Bethesda.

I've been hearing the DLC is 400 MSP. I have NO idea what that equals in our sterling (never can be bothered to learn the £ = MSP thing), but it's cheap enough. 800 MSP is £7.50 bought straight through Xbox Live isn't it?

Either way, if the missus lets me, methinks I'll be spending a few pounds on 2,100 MSP, and I'm finally going to crack and buy Dawnguard along with this. <3

Edit: Completely ninja'd. Damn my slow typing and reading through the entire thread before posting. XD

What's funny is I'm seeing people, even video game journalists saying that you'll be able to put your house anywhere in the world, build it to your own specifications...that's laughable.

You'll have a set piece of property where you can build your house, that's it, you won't be building it in the middle of nowhere. They said in the trailer you have to buy a deed to the land, that means its a set piece of property.

You'll have a set layout of your home. You'll be able to expand it, but all houses will look the same in the end.

You'll have a set group of improvements you can make, and you won't be able to customize where they go in the home.

Although I'll buy the DLC to check it out, its just another house like those in the major cities. Its just a bigger money sink and its outside city walls.

That's it, end of story.

Edit: And I just read everything I just said is wrong...foot in mouth syndrome for me. Multiple layouts, multiple homes, multiple plots of lands.

Sorry Bethesday, I got a little trigger happy lol

I think the main thing is....

-Hearthfire itself is good. (save for adoption which looks ridiculously stupid and should never have been allowed to see production, given the lack of quality of the already-existing marriage system)
-Overall content quantity count is very bad.
-There's literally a PC mod that's EXACTLY like this, except free, and has existed for months now.

Usually this type of feature would be bundled up with a larger DLC, in order to make the overall content count larger. But they didn't, they've released it like they did the plug-ins for Oblivion. It's reminiscent of horse armor. I mean, if that undead horse mount were released outside of Dawnguard for $0.99, that'd be seen as a joke too. That's exactly why it was bundled in with Dawnguard.

But here they dropped the ball. People are disappointed because Hearthfire was processed just like Dawnguard was, with them applying for copyright etc. People expected a big DLC equal in size to Dawnguard.
Instead? It's a weenie-sized DLC, and we still see no legal action by Bethesda for a large-sized DLC. So yeah, it's like wtf have they been doing all this time...

Unfortunantly the rumors spread by hopeful forum posters that directly contradict what Bethesda has said aren't true. What Bethesda actually said was the DLC's would vary in size.

Someone will always find a reason to complain.
Your right, If they fixed the first person view camera heights so to match your races height someone would find reason to complain

The day before: SKYRIM HAS NOTHING TO DO OTHER THAN GOING TO DUNGEONS AND KILLING THINGS!

Today: SKYRIM HAS NO PLACE FOR THINGS OTHER THAN GOING TO DUNGEONS AND KILLING THINGS!
Well said.

Two thirds of Skyrim players aren't on the PC. I suppose you think they shouldn't have added manniqunes or autostocking book shelves either? those things came from mods back in oblivion so why include them in the game? T

I just wish they expanded on it, giving you the ability to try and make some gold too, a little step on the road to becoming a Jarl. :) Well, regardless if I'm excited or not, I'll be getting it. My modlist is already long and I feel my game is rather complete already. And as for what type of game this game is, for me it IS a Sims RPG, with the mods I have and the way I play in it. The game is what the player plays it like.

Clearly this DLC proves you wrong. Skyrim can be whatever it wants to be, as long as Bethesda keeps adding more RPG-ish elements.

I've never seen an Alik'r steward, so I'm guessing this is a whole customization DLC, not just houses. Some new NPCs, of course, and I hope for new weapons too.

Who says you can't? This was only a 2 minute trailer. And I'm glad the wait will be very short. For me at least.

This. People want a huge DLC like shivering isles but they are going to have to wait a long time for something like that. Dawnguard didn't excite me one bit but Hearthfire gives you plenty of things to do and its just $5. I think its a great value.

1800+ hours in (probably over 1900 now) and I still haven't explored every single location. I don't get how people get bored so easily. Oh, thats right, they do the MQ, the Civil War, and pump up their crafting skills on every character they make.

Well,I hoped for a Massive, big expansion with a new landmass. But i guess this is just something we get meanwhile we wait for the "Massive" expansion,If we will get one.
And i am not going to lie,I am going to get this, not a pc player. So building a house is awesome for me. Finally i can do that.

But i have a feeling this add on will be reallyy buggy
