Dissapointing direction with Hearthfire, Bethesda...

They've also missed another opportunity to include diversity into this game where you can play as things that aren't Nords or even humans at all.
Yeah, great, another house that looks like the ones all the other Swedish people around here live in.
Neat.

in relation to post about adoption and quests.

Go to southfringe sanctum, relying on UESP was your first mistake.

The way I see, people were complaining about having a lot of money in game and no where to spend it. I'm sure buying everything for this house and other crap will be a pretty good money sink.

Give me the Breton building possibility and it will be perfect.
I sense the " ONLY NORDS IN SKYRIM " crap.

I've been hearing the DLC is 400 MSP. I have NO idea what that equals in our sterling (never can be bothered to learn the £ = MSP thing), but it's cheap enough. 800 MSP is £7.50 bought straight through Xbox Live isn't it?

In that case I'm back to be unhappy.

£3.75 isn't cheap

edited = just re watched the trailer and it does seem there could be £3.75 worth. I am just sceptical of smaller dlc like this as all the £3.75 soon add up and I begin to feel robbed of my hard cash when I consider how much a complete game can cost.

That is why I prefer a good sized dlc well worth the money that can also include all the smaller dlc as bonus "Thank You from the devs" added in extras.

I was disappointed until I saw it was only $5. I'm totally fine with this. It adds a fair amount of content and it's something that like 90% of players wanted. It just probably took them so much work that they didn't want to do it for free, or it was simply a planned DLC all along.

One could argue that where would you get the materials to build a dunmer or altmer style house? People in different regions used different materials. But then again, one could import those materials at a great inflated price, so maybe they should be in there.

Its $5 people. I'm so tight with money my wallet creaks every time I open it and even I think this is a great value.

Two thirds of Skyrim players aren't on the PC. I suppose you think they shouldn't have added manniqunes or autostocking book shelves either? those things came from mods back in oblivion so why include them in the game? T

Yes and as a business, Bethesda just royally failed at impressing a third of their customers. For a third of their customers it's a massive disappointment.
That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying they SHOULDN'T release it, but when you're releasing something that the PC can EASILY do (and has done, there's a user-made mod EXACTLY like this that's been out for months), it might be wise to attach the feature onto a bigger DLC, otherwise you're doomed to disappoint a third of your customers.

I mean imagine if Hearthfire turned out to be a stability and UI improvement DLC and pretend for a moment that being expected to pay for what's basically a patch isn't outrageous. Xbox users would be severely disappointed to find out Hearthfire, a DLC name we've been hearing and watching since May, was nothing but a basic DLC they get little to no use from; PS3 players might be thrilled, PC might be split, but Xbox would show zero interest.

Thus, it's a poor business decision and any disappointment for Hearthfire is completely understandable.

Why give it away when most people will go "eh, only $5" and pay anyway?

Hearthfire is a step in the right direction - making Skyrim more personal, more RPG-ish. A step in the right direction. It's little touches like these that make the world of Skyrim more immersive and lovable.

Next, Bethesda should implement playable instruments in their next patch. Not being able to play instruments is completely stupid since there's a freaking college and questline centered around instruments. You don't have to sing. Just go to inventory, chose instrument, another box pops up with a list of songs you've LEARNED(so learning songs will add more RPG elements), chose one and your character will start playing it. He'll dance a little bit, and nearby NPCs will look at him/her. The NPCs might not even stop, they could just be walking by and then turn their heads at your direction. But a few NPCs may stop and watch, and clap and dance to the music a bit. It would be awesome. Maybe they throw you some gold, just meager stuff so you can't exploit it. Maybe 2-3 coins per song if you're lucky.

That would be awesome and would add more to the world as opposed to more generic dungeon diving quests.

I feel it is a good idea, the amount of DLC homes in oblivion was okay, but to build you're own house, wherever you want?I'm up for that.It will also give bethesda a bit more time to spend on the next BIG DLC and less time on making DLC houses. In a way,it brings a bit of the mods to consoles the way I see it.People will have their opinions, that was yours and this is mine.

Did you happen to read an official Beth announcement that it was going to be something completely different, by any chance?

You're relying on the assumption that every PC user thinks Hearthfire is a disappointment. I find it disappointing purely because I enjoyed the speculation of Hearthfire being a content DLC like Dawnguard. However, all that aside, I see no issues with the DLC itself. It's cheap, adds a fair amount of content, and even if mods exist that add both of those they can not compete with a full development studio. Hey, I love BYOH, it's a great mod, but he (the author) is one man. Of course, I'll see how the Xbox users react to Hearthfire before I decide whether or not it's superior enough over BYOH to warrant the $5.

I'd also prefer that console users have access to a feature like this, even if it disappoints me since I already have free access to it. I guess I'm odd in that respect.

My gold just reached 299,867 today.
I could import something.

Not to mention that a person in Skyrim (especially a level 73 person) could just cross the border and load up, then come back.
Also the fact that a Telvanni wizard tower (the kind of place I'd like to live in most) only requires mushrooms and soul gems to build.

All this means is I won't be wasting my money on any of the houses in the citys. I'll just wait until I can spend it all on building my own house and buying my property.
