Dissapointing direction with Hearthfire, Bethesda...

Post » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:42 pm

Nope. How about you give me the link to the official Beth announcement that said it was going to be a stupid Sims addon?

There were none, all we got was mere speculation, that's why being disappointed does not make any sense to me. And like it or not, what for you is a stupid Sims addon it's a very nice addition for RPers.

I'm at a loss for words how disappointed I am with a house building sim.

Cooking bread and adopting are not what Elder Scrolls is about. It's about adventure, magic and hack and slash.

The next DLC better be balls to the wall awesome with spears to make me happy again.
People will have different views on what the series is "about". Personally, Hearthfire seems little more than a warm-up act meant to keep the inpatient players occupied until they put the actual show together. Unlike many others, I expected that Bethesda would release smaller DLC first and build up to a massive, final chunk in the same manner as Shivering Isles. At least this means us PC and PS3 (maybe) players won't need to wait 30 days again once HF is released.

Try not to mess this DLC up again Bethesda.

Is this the last DLC?
I'd be surprised if it was.

bwahahaa did you see Skyrims sales? can't win? they hit the jackpot.

Of course they did, I was referring to customer satisfaction. People will always find a reason to complain, no matter what.

Nop. But it's the last 360' 30-day exclusive DLC (with luck).

I mean, they ARE feeding us content that, according to Todd, was developed in a single week when they let devs make whatever they want.

I loved that the Gamjam video ended with the caviat: "That was one of our most productive weeks ever," as opposed to any week they were actually working on pre-release Skyrim, I guess.

I'm disappointed that they're releasing a DLC for a huge mansion when the houses already in the game still have so many glitches.

They are making something big, remember they told us they release small stuf meanwhile they work on something big? well heres the small add-on. also gstaff told me this when i asked him about "big and meaty" dlcs they were talking about before.

"This is something we thought you guys would enjoy. Admittedly, it’s a smaller add-on (made by a smaller team). We’re still keen on doing “big and meaty” content, too :)"
Well, I hope the year of waiting will be worth, because Dawnguard doesn't exactly fit in the definition of 'big', it's more like the Skyrim version of KotN. Morrowind expansions set the bar for me about what I consider a worthy expansion and certainly Bethesda has all the talent and skill to repeat the feat. For this reason, Im not settling for anything less than that.

You've got a point...noy only houses, but the game in general. Am I hoping too much for a BIG patch that solves the many Dawnguard glitches there are?

Exactly, it's like well wtf are they doing all the other weeks. THAT'S why I'm not buying Skyrim DLC. The house-building feature itself is great, but where's the NEW ideas? It's like they've just been sitting around since Game Jam and every so often they toss one (or several, in Dawnguard's case) of those Gamejam products at us. It just feels lazy.

just re-watched the trailer and it does seem there could be £3.75 worth. I am just sceptical of smaller dlc like this as all the £3.75 soon add up and I begin to feel robbed of my hard cash when I consider how much a complete game can cost.

That is why I prefer a good sized dlc well worth the money that can also include all the smaller dlc as bonus "Thank You for buying the game" added in extras.

I just hope now that the available plots aren't all out in the middle of nowhere. I want to build my home adjoining an existing city (especially somewhere like Falkreath or Morthall that doesn't presently have a buy-able home

WIth the whole adoption thing, this would have been the perfect opportunity to add children of other races. They didn't.

They had new ideas in Gamejam. They're still implementing them. Why do you need even more?

Sorry, but that's just babycrying IMO.

I'm guessing you'll have set options, instead of customization.

If they allow me to build two Armor/Weapon display rooms instead of only letting me build one and then forcing me to build some kind of Alchemy laboratory to keep my house from looking horribly lop-sided, I will be shocked.

Well,I agree that dawnguard feels like skyrims version of kotN. But a little bit bigger with much more features.
And i feel the same, morrowind expansions were my favourites<3 And yeah,I hope for something big as well. I hope the next DLC will be more like a massive expansion,More like morrowind expansions. and i reaally hope it will be bigger then dawnguard.

But i got to admit,i like those small add ons too.

Why do you people complain about new DLC?
Many people asked for Adoption and Housing. They got it.
Bethesda didn't announce this will be last DLC. This one is quite short and it surely won't have no bugs like last DLC content or Vanilla. And nobody is forcing you to buy it, it is just for those who like it. And it cost silly 5$.

No reason moaning how Bethesda dissapointed you, because if you don't like it, you don't -have- to take it and download it. More DLC will come surely, some will be good some will be bad, but nobody will be forced to play it. And Hearthfire doesn't affect your current game expirience, so it is rather pointless to say how dissapointed you are.

I personally like it, it's defiantly pointed towards a specific bunch of people who play skyrim a certain way, for what you get and the price it's worth getting I know ill enjoy it and make me play skyrim some more. They could of added a bit more maybe and bump up to price to lets say $10 (if they added more) but oh well, im sure the next dlc will be much better.

I just want to take this snippet out and say.. well... clearly you don't know Bethesda. But carry on

Another problem with that is that they're adding more and more content while bugs and glitches aren't being fixed.
The Gamejam video, for me, should have been 1) A guy with a spear, 2) A guy swinging a sword underwater and 3) Six minutes of a montage that just said "BUG FIXING" over and over and over.

And I doubt Hearthfire will be that much different from the house 'building' you do in the game now.

That depends entirely of where you can place your house....if it's anywhere, it's be a BIG difference even over any existing mod ("Build you own house" only allows it in one static point, last time I checked).

Only way you can do it in PC is with the CK...but not in-game. Anyways, I'm sure this will make an excellent modder's resource :)

ITT: PC gamers complaining about a cheap DLC that allows console gamers to enjoy some of the features we take for granted.

I'm personally excited for this. It's a fitting end for my Nord warrior, after saving the world time and time again, to hang up his sword and settle down to a life of farming. And as stated earlier, an official DLC will always feel better integrated into the world than a mod.
