DLC Exclusive. Discussion Continues.

Post » Sun Dec 12, 2010 1:22 am

To avoid 3 threads being made at the same time, I made this one a little early.

Don't start using this one until the other is filled.

I want everyone to be clear on two things from the release that went out.

1) All we announced is that the first DLC will be exclusive to Xbox LIVE. It'll be available this holiday season through Xbox LIVE.
2) More details about plans for additional content will be released in the coming weeks.

Beyond that, I don't have any information to share. Again, we'll share more info in the coming weeks.

I already have the 5th Thread ready to post once this fills up, so don't waste your time please.

*bashing Microsoft is fine, bashing Mr. Gates is not since he is an individual. You can bash Bethesda as a whole as well, but you can not bash developers or Mr. Altman because the moderators don't allow it*

As I posted in the last thread.

If this content was trivial there would be no reason for Microsoft to be paying good money to secure it for itself.

Sad but true.

I agree with that reasoning. It'd be awfully weak PR if the big Christmas DLC was Rex Armor or something. Plus, the initial quotes talk about continuing the adventure, and that doesn't sound much like a trivial thing to me. That sounds like content.

Man, I'm going to be the Devil's Advocate, but Lord_Ka1n, that's the attitude of a purist, and while I understand, you have to realize that's an unrealistic expectation, right? And if you were at this point in your own software company, I highly doubt you'd still take the moral high road when the crime is essentially victimless.

oh, but i would. trust me. if they want more sales, these companies need to actually make their system better, or invest in exclusive games. not pull these cheap tricks, i would not encourage this at all.

Other post should be locked soon now, because of being past the post count, so I will comment here now. It would have been nice it if was said ahead of time. Didn't someone say that this wouldn't happen again? Also, is it because the PS3 is more sophisticated than the 360 or PC that it's harder to make games for, so this can be why it's delayed for the PS3? They want to make shure no more bugs or unplayble issues like last time in Fallout 3?

this svcks.

its not as much that i want the dlc. its that i feel i am not getting as much for my purchase as an xbox360 owner. we pay the same price (actually i am paying 110 dollars) so we should get the same amount of content.

its like if you and 2 other guys bought a pair of head phones. the third guy got a 20 dollar i tunes card along with. its just not fair.

and that is why i am mad. i feel as if i pay the same price for the same thing. i should get the same thing

Quotes from thread 3.

No, they're two completely separate issues. Mods are not official DLC content, first of all.

Second, the reasons that mods don't work on consoles are totally different. Anyone that buys a game for a console knows ahead of time that the OS's on consoles aren't made for the kind of modding you can do on a PC. Besides, Sony and Microsoft don't allow most types of mods on their consoles to begin with. Console-only users (I use both) shouldn't feel angry or cheated about not being able to use mods because it's part of the nature of the platform. If mods are that important you simply need to buy the game for a platform that supports modding.

Official DLC is different because the choices as to who gets it are totally at the discretion of the publisher (Bethesda). Saying, "you guys don't get to be upset because you can use mods" is like saying "you don't get to be upset because you can recharge your controllers by plugging them into your console" to PS3 users. It's irrelevant. Mods are not official DLC.

Anyway, I stand by my statement that people are getting too mad, too soon. We don't know any details about this yet...people are getting angry over pure speculation.

I agree on the mod point. When I make the decision to buy a game on xbox or PC, I am taking into account all the things like mods, regulated multiplayer, dedicated servers, hardware power, etc. All those things that differentiate the two. If I get the game on my 360 I've already decided that something about it is more important than my desire to see third party mods. Third party mods are also rarely as deep as the DLC put out by publishers. It almost always lacks voice acting, and often has compatibility issues (most mods for FO3 for example broke or conflicted when Operation Anchorage came out). When I make that decision, I am not deciding on knowledge that isn't even public yet of the fact that I am going to get screweballed on DLC. Had this been announced a month, or eve a week ago, I would have called gamestop and changed my order to a 360 version, or at least HAD TIME TO CONSIDER MY OPTIONS. I can't do that now. If I want to play this week, I have to make a snap decision in the next 24 hours whether I want to drive to a GS store several downs over to return my mail delivered game and pay $10 more for the right to get DLC on time.

Meh, it doesn't matter. If Bethesda releases it for the 360 first, then the PC and PS3, we'll still get to play it. If they don't, someone will just use a modded 360 to bring over the ESM and BSA files over to PC, and then PS3.

...and if neither happen, so what? It's just a game. Besides, most DLC isn't worth buying anyway. The only one I've ever bought was worth the cost was Lair the Shadow Broker, and that was only good because it resolved an issue that spanned two games and brought back a well loved character.

That could be one reason, but I kind of doubt that it is, since as far as anyone can tell, the PC doesn't get the DLC either. Just xbox.

Bethesda isn't going to make it any easier on us by telling us the score anytime soon, and arguing about it is going nowhere. It's just a shame that this whole thing kind've sapped my excitement for a potentially great game right before release.

I agree, I paid $110 and I feel like I got screwed when I payed the same as the 360 guy (if he really did pay at all).

I got a question for everyone. Why are we buying Fallout New Vegas? Are we buying it for DLC or to play a game that gives 100+ hours vanollia? So to say you are not buying New Vegas because of DLC seems kinda moot too me.

I remember being on the origanl xbox and not being able to play Morrowind. I was so happy when Morrowind came to the xbox, I didn't care if I could have expansion packs or mods or what not. I was playing vanillia Morrowind. I guess we as humans can't be greatfull for anything eh?

Greed will collapse the gaming industry, I fear an early 80s type video game depression coming. It will probably be started by companies buying exclusive this and exclusive that licences, plus the greed and shady business practices of companies like EA/Activision.

It's a just a game. Don't let the little things get to you, or you won't be ready for the big ones.

Anger is healthy in small doses.

True, but only as a stress relief mechanism. Little things like this shouldn't stress you out though.

If this happens hoppefully EA, Activision will finally be bankrupt and we will never see them again. Too bad that Activision CEO will get a large payout when ever he leaves thoguh.

That's a valid point I completely overlooked. It seemed like it could be trivial but you don't pour out big money for nothing.

I play on ps3 (xbox is rrod and my laptop gets extremely hot when playing games)

I'm Just glad I will be able to play the game and worry about DLC later, although I would PC game (Saving for a Alienware Desktop) if I had the choice But I don't.

But I am Slightly annoyed that PS3/PC are getting pushed aside, but nothing I say will change that, all I can do is hope for the best, that Bethesda decide to include PS3/PC faster then Fo3 DLCs were released for PS3
