How about using Mora's Agony on it? Or summoning the dremora merchant or butler in front of it?

Also, this wreaks of the same devilry that FROM soft pulled with the pendent in Dark Souls. The lead dev told people that it was the best starting gift to choose for your first play through. People searched for the use of that blasted thing for a whole year and then FROM finally broke the news that it was........... a prank -_- People literally sunk thousands of combined hours playing through the game a million different ways with the pendent in their inventory :brokencomputer: I hope to God this isn't the same case.

Tried it...

They did that? Wow! I don't see this being the case here as no one told us there was something there - we're speculating (and hoping) there is :D

Now, I must go ;)

I really want to know what the machine is... there's nothing extra on the map behind it and it doesn't show that its a doorway either. But... why put all this stuff in there to do with it and not have a quest or anything with it involved? o_O

There is nothing there. You are wasting your time.

When I found it I thought it was going to be like a city or something under that guy's house. It was nothing though. Hrolduf I believe is the one who was living there, his body is no where to be found either. His friend on the other hand bryon or something is lying there dead with tons of blood around him and with the bloody note. So why did Bethesda put him in there and not put in Hrolduf even? If you ask me it was going to be a quest that they thought would not be fun or something like that.

Well I'd like to see it, and would consider it a greater waste of time wandering Solstheim, trying to find it myself, just to get a look at something that looks interesting.

There is? I missed something!? I'll have to have a look now.

I don't have it but i'm sure someone would be kind enough to try sometime.

While I agree that items from DLC A shouldn't be needed to start a quest in DLC B, there isn't anything stopping them... right? On that basis, in theory, it's possible for something like Auriel's Bow to be needed to 'open the machine'. Though I do doubt that is the case. If someone knows 100% either way, please explain so I may keep/remove the idea from my list.

The reason why things from various DLC do not normally interact with each other is because of how special effects are implemented. In order for Auriel's bow to do something special it would require the device to have a script that recognizes the bow, which is hard to implement, or the bow to have a script that essentially says "when bow shoots device, activate script attached to device".

The sun in TES lore is a portal to Aetherius whence all of Nirn's magical properties are derived. Maybe that's where the Dwemer went...

No, but it is why the sun-symbol is prominent in Dwemer mythology.
The sun represents the departure of Magnus from the mortal plane.
The Dwemer, like most elves, see Creation as a trap and not as a gift and seek to escape it.
The sun symbolises this.

Two things to consider. one is that the "doorway" reminds me of the first dwemer door in morrowind you needed the crank to open. the second is that this is not the only mystery in dragonborn. what about the southern doorway in kagrumez? I haven't found a way into it. any way it might be connected the house is almost directly south of there.

Do it harder.

:lmao:

This reminds me of the days when I was young and stupid and would spend hours in Ocarina of Time trying to open doors that couldn't be open, but I of course was certain there was some "secret way". Good times, good times.

The guy who died next to the machine is a mage right? Have you tried all spells such as fire etc? Because he did die as a result of whatever he did to the machine...

When you first walk into the basemant you can over hear the bandits talking about killing him.

But his note was bloodstained so I presume he wrote it after being killed and the context certainly fits. And I thought they were talking about killing the other guy?
