Dwemer machine in dead guy's basemant? #2

Post » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:18 am

As I said in the previous Thread; If the Theory that the Dwemer were teleported deep underground was True, then this could potentially be the first signs of the Dwemer returning.
Although, I highly doubt this.
But, Anything is Possible.

People really need to quit inventing 'theories' about what happened to the Dwemer.
We were told what happened to them over a decade ago.
They became Numidium, Numidium blew up.
They are not coming back.

I said about this right at the start:

(...) As there were still some of us interested in debating what the 'machine' is/was and the idea of the Dwemer returning, there is another thread here to continue the discussion. Please, don't start posting hate for the return of the Dwemer - if you're not interested, don't post! Simples
(...)

Some of us like to discuss this and as it's not against the rules to do so.... Also Numidium was directly related to the disappearance of the Dwemer. Disappearance doesn't mean gone forever

And I quote:

1E 700 — Dwarves Disappear.
The entire Dwarven nation across Tamriel mysteriously disappeared. Although many theories to their disappearance have been put forward, there exists no solid evidence where or why they left.

You're completly right.
But I have a vision of small population of Dwemers popping up with the "being Outside" theme all over it. It wouldn't be that bad, seeing as Devs will likely resurrect at least a small group of Falmers in future DLCs(open path in Dawnguard, community wish etc.) and Yagrum did that being Outside business and he's praised.

As a lorepraiser, old player, traditionalist etc. I'm thorn apart: to want them arrive in small group, or to have them melted into Numidium as a whole.

Well, they don't know where they're going to pop up if they're like, 200,000m underground...
It was just that poor guys house was the "Pop-Up Point".

I'm not saying this is completely Correct and Legit, and that Theory isn't even mine, but I'm just throwing some Ideas out there.

So, you think it's possible that the Dwemer built a digger machine to reach the surface? Don't you think they would be able to know where their old cities were, as they have immense magical capability and their animunculi are still working? I read somewhere that the Dwemer disappearence was a Dragon Break, and that they are bound to return in a future time.

I bet it's an exit point from a dwemer ruin where you can only access the door from the other side.

No. We know what happened to the Dwemer. The guy who invented the mystery told us. Or is the word of the author of the whole thing not good enough for some unfathomable reason?
Kagrenac used their souls to construct Numidium.

That is the quote of the author? Ok, so we know where the Dwemer went/are. Does that make you happy now? You've proved your point. What you didn't do was to understand that this thread is about the 'machine' in the basemant, which will entail the odd theory or two about the return of the Dwemer. If you can't hack people talking about it, I again remind you of my first post. Why did you bother coming to this thread to pick holes in something that is only of a minor relation to the thread?

Remember, not everyone feels that the Dwemer are gone, regardless of what we've been told. I don't understand why you need to do what you're doing?

It's just tempering expectations and hype. The Dwemer are 99.8% gone forever and we are told why.. so the speculation on if they are coming back is just wasted time really.

Talking about Dwemer... yes. Looking at the quote, Merari was addressing Samm when he first mentioned the quote. The reason I commented is that this thread is talking about a Dwemer item in a basemant, not the return of the Dwemer. This thread does not need to come a lore war.

Because, after all this time, it gets on my nerves a bit.
On the one hand there is the anti-MK crowd who for a hobby disregard any and everything he writes, and on the other hand there are a lot of people willing to dream up theories but unwilling to do any research into the matter.
That is not how theory-crafting works, you dont just invent things. You look for clues, evidence.
The primary source of Dwemer lore is the game Morrowind. A little investigation of that game can get you far and then there are other well-established sources that deal with the issue and explain the whole thing.
As such, this kind of theorycrafting is like re-inventing the wheel, only a square one.

When it comes to the Dwemer machine in the basemant, I think its a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Sharapli, it doesnt do anything.
Clipping through the machine reveals there is nothing on the other side and there are no points where you can investigate, or activate anything.

Never played MW so no idea what a Pool of Forgetfulness looks like, but I suppose it might be. As for the rest of what you've said, I completely understand what you are saying. This is not the place to lore war with theorists though. It was simply started by Fuji and continued by myself to discuss what the 'machine' might be or be used for. There seemed to be a lot of work done for something that is a 'dead end'. Though, as I have said myself, it seems that is all it is.

Hrodulf's House. It's almost southeast from Raven Rock. It looks like a badly damaged shack, and has a map marker when discovered. The cellar entrance is just inside the 'cabin'.

Hrodulfs his house is a ruined cottage along the same coast that you see fort frostmoth, go down into the basemant kill the bandits and head into the tunnel behind the bookcase and youll see a giant mama dwemer capsule of some sort were trying to figure out what to do with it, i still say its an entrance to a dungeon but we have to figure out how to unlock it...only time will tell but for now were just throwing everything in skyrim at it.

There have been unfinished quests in just about every TES game to date, at least from Morrowind to Skyrim.
The Pool of Forgetfulness at Sharapli was likely one, as was Lost Boy Cavern in Oblivion.
I suppose the Dwemer machine is either something unfinished due to time constraints or a little bit of flavour, or both.
It could be something unfinished that was left in because its just a nice scenario.

Before Skyrim, I only ever played Oblivion. I have MW GOTY here (for PC) but have yet to actually play it. I can remember a few unfinished quests from those so i'm sure this could be one. As you say, it does make a very interesting scenario. My curiosity for the 'machine' was born from it being something visually new. Maybe more experienced TES players could say otherwise, but to me it's new so should mean something. Who knows, we may never know.

I think it released the ashspawn somehow, considering the destruction and the ash coverage of his house above. The bandits must have killed Hwhatever, his friend finds his body, gets into the secret room and dies somehow. In the meantime the reavers occupy the house. Honestly, I have no clue. Wonder if I should PM Gstaff or another of the developers about it.

It's always possible that a large group of Dwemer were living in the Outer Plains at the time of the disappearance, just as Yagrum was. They could still be living somewhere and populating. It's also possible that Kagrenac had a plan for his people. Anything is possible.
