Fallout: New Vegas Official Thread #11

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 8:30 am

Why would they use the same casinos from the 1950s? While a twisted version of 1950s americana predominates the setting of Fallout and the technology available is retro-futuristic it doesn't mean that the world literally got stuck in the 1950s for over the next 150 years. While the Vegas strip might not have developed exactly the same way that it has in reality, it would have definately continued to evolve in some fashion; particularly as the wacko utopia culture continued to idolize commercialism and consumerism.

If anything Vegas 2077 should be rather magnificent, with a touch of retro-future feel; not a carbon copy of the old strip of 60 years ago. I hope the game reflects this as mirroring too much the actual 1950s would be a misinterpretation of what Fallout's setting is about.

Hey Bethesda, take notes.

What is the purpose of your post? Bethesda isn't making FO:NV... and with AP being delayed til June 2010, I doubt it'll still be released next year, if at all.

NV is being developed by a different team at Obsidian (Sawyer is the lead) than AP. And the AP's delay is currently shrouded in mystery. We don't know when it's coming out or why it is being delayed. If the publisher is holding it for financial or marketing reasons, then much of the team could move to other projects.

Worse than fallout 3? like fallout 3 was bad or something?
For many people definitely worse than the original two, on which some people now on the New Vegas team worked.
meh, ive nvr played the other fallout games, i just dont want turn based

im not one to judge the other fallout games
Saying A is worse than B doesn't say anything at all about B's quality.

...So I've been gone this long and the debates are pretty much the same as when I left :P

Good to be back ^_^

Oh and thanks Kickstand27 for PMing me completely out of the blue, wouldn't be back here posting now if it wasn't for that :P You know what I'm referring to.

I post anything Fallout: NV & Obsidian related here, since Obsidian is developing it after all. Chris Avellone is one of founders/chief creative officer of Obsidian.

No problem Chris.

Atreids.
I reckon there is some truth to what you're saying, it doesn't have to stay just freemont. with nuclear power, maybe vegas would spread throughout the whole basin.

I just think the old downtown uis a more romantic idea

Honestly, I was surprised Beth hadn't registered it on the very announcement day.

I'm actually kinda glad the GOTY is out of the way now...maybe this website registration will mark the beginning of some real info on New Vegas. I hope they put a themed teaser website up or something. No actualy gameplay or images from the game but something related to a post-nuclear Las Vegas.

*excited*

I am worried that this game is going to svck Bethesda has a unique art style the way they do games. Sense this game is not made by Bethesda I am worried!

What do you mean by "art style"? Aesthetic art, or "game development is art" art? Either way Bethesda didn't create the Fallout series, and they definitely didn't create the retro-50's future aesthetics of the series, and since the first two games definitely didn't 'svck' (whether you actually like them or not they're generally considered high quality titles), so a Fallout game isn't going to svck just because it isn't developed by Bethesda.

Keep in mind that Obsidian has folks that actually worked on the first two Fallout titles.

Since FO:NV is probably going to look exactly the same as FO3, but have better characters & writing, the game is only going to svck if Obsidian manages again to not finish the game in time (KOTOR 2, NWN 2, Alpha Protocol). But since Bethesda is not a tirannical publisher (for instance, without Bethesda Call of Cthulhu would never have been developed, let alone released) this shouldn't be a problem.

No they don't.

In your opinion they don't, in mine and the person who posted it, they do. Let's not bicker about differences of opinion and have a "do so/do not" poking contest please. :)

I'm not bickering nor do I have a desire to debate on it further since I have as much artistic skill as that of a drowned rat.

I don't see how anything gamesas has done compares to something by oh lets say Yo[censored]aka Amano for example. Please instruct this uncultured soul on the error of misjudgment for which he has made. :embarrass: *

KOTOR 2 was the only game pushed out unfinished, thanks to LucasArts. NWN2 just wasn't great, especially the ending, but then again, FO3's original ending was pretty lame, too. Didn't stop the game from being successful, so I guess endings are overrated. Heh.

Bethesda's gotten much better in recent years, though I still haven't forgiven them for Daggerfall. Now there was a buggy, unfinished mess. :)
